Chapter 738 I Told You, But You Didn't Believe
Balancing work and taking care of a kid was no joke.
It's like trying to juggle a career and family life; it's tough to give both the attention they need.
Patrick's workload was overwhelming, leaving him little time to care for his child. No matter how capable he was, he was still just one person and couldn't be in two places at once.
Previously, Patrick brought Teddy to the office because Teddy was at an age where he mostly ate and slept. A rocking chair beside him was enough, and Teddy would cry if he needed anything.
But things had changed. Teddy could now crawl, pull himself up against the wall, and try to stand. He was also at the stage where he put everything in his mouth.
Patrick couldn't take his eyes off Teddy for a second, so he continued to hold him. Teddy watched the computer and tried to press the keys like Patrick, which made it impossible for Patrick to work.
When Patrick got frustrated, he held Teddy facing away from the computer. But then Teddy started playing with Patrick's office chair.
Vera was busy studying and didn't have much time to help with the father-son duo. She trusted Patrick completely with Teddy.
She knew how hard Patrick worked during the day, so every night when Patrick approached her, Vera would gently say, "Honey, I'm really focused on my studies right now. You work so hard during the day with both work and taking care of Teddy. Let's get some good sleep and recharge, okay?"
Patrick replied, "I have plenty of energy."
Vera countered, "I don't."
Patrick warned, "The longer you put this off, the worse it'll be for you."
Vera quickly nodded, "I know, I know. After my exams, I'll take good care of you."
Patrick reluctantly let it go.
Vera felt relieved.
During lunch, Susan suddenly remembered something and asked, "Vera, are you going to cheat on this exam?"
Vera denied it, "I didn't cheat before; I just got some outside help."
Susan asked, "So are you going to get outside help for this exam too?"
Vera looked at her book full of notes, "This is a major exam. I have to rely on myself."
Previous exams were smaller and counted towards regular grades, so they weren't as strict. The finals were serious, and getting caught meant a school-wide announcement. Vera remembered how Molly skipped classes all semester but still passed. She figured she would be fine since she had studied diligently. "Why are you asking all of a sudden?"
Susan poked at her food, "If you don't ask Randall for help, then I'll go to him."
"Silly girl, of course, you should ask him. He's your boyfriend. If he gives answers, they should be for you. If I need help, I'll ask my husband. Besides, Randall wouldn't give you the answers anyway, trust me."
Susan said, "I'll ask him."
Sure enough, when Susan asked Randall, he knocked on her forehead, "Say that again. What do you want me to do?"
Susan rubbed her sore forehead, "You helped Vera with answers before, and I'm your girlfriend now, so you should..."
"I'm telling you, don't even think about it. If you can pass, great. If not, then you fail," Randall said sternly.
Susan protested, "But linear programming is so hard, Randall."
Randall pointed at her, "During review week, hit the library every day. Got it?"
"What if I don't understand?" Susan almost asked if he would go with her.
Randall replied, "If you don't understand, just memorize the types of problems."
Susan got angry, "Randall, you don't treat me like your girlfriend at all! You don't kiss me, you don't hug me, you just use me as a tool. You won't even study with me. If you don't come with me, I'll go to the library and find the class genius to study with."
Susan stormed out of Randall's hotel room.
Randall watched her, then grabbed her wrist and pulled her back, "Come on, tell me, who is this class genius?"
"Why do you want to know?" Susan wondered if he was jealous. Her expression almost gave away her thoughts.
But Randall calmly said, "I want to thank him and maybe buy him some food and drinks so he can teach my girlfriend well."
Susan's smile froze, and she angrily shook off Randall's hand, "No need! If you want to thank him, you can give him your girlfriend too."
With that, Susan ran off.
Randall called after her, "You forgot your bag."
Susan, fuming, turned back, grabbed her bag from the bed, and stormed out without even checking if it was right-side up.
Back home, Susan seemed like part of the Olteran family. Shawn noticed her upset expression and immediately asked, "Susan, what's wrong? Who upset you?"
Cindy also rushed over, "Susan, what happened?"
Susan replied, "Grandpa, Auntie, I'm fine. I almost tripped while walking."
Then she went to her room.
Shawn was puzzled, "Our Susan, who climbs trees and catches fish, crying because she almost tripped?"
Cindy thought for a moment and said, "It must be Randall again!"
Susan was so angry that she didn't go to Randall after school anymore.
It was also the start of review week.
Teddy was all packed up, ready to be sent to the Olteran Manor, separating from Vera for a while.
Teddy, clueless about what was happening, crawled into Vera's open bag.
Vera joked, "Are you that eager for Mommy to pack you up and send you to Grandpa?"
At the Olteran Manor, Susan was still in a bad mood.
Vincent took Teddy, and Vera asked Susan, "What happened with Randall?"
"Nothing," Susan replied.
She didn't want to admit that Randall didn't care about her and that she was the one chasing after him. It was embarrassing.
Vera, having never been in a serious relationship, didn't know how to help Susan.
When she asked Molly, Molly pointed to herself and said, "Vera, do I look like I've been in a relationship? I've told you all before, Sebastian and I had nothing going on before we got married, but you didn't believe me."
After starting work again, Molly told Ellie about Sebastian's initial lie, trying to clear her name, "Mom, even though Sebastian and I are married now, I need to reiterate that before we got married, we had nothing going on. We were completely innocent, not even a kiss. Those photos were just to provoke Abby! I didn't expect Sebastian to use them to force me."
Ellie was shocked, "Before you got married, you had nothing going on?"
Molly nodded, "That's right, very pure!"
Ellie didn't know what to say, "And now?"
"Now it's too late; we have everything," Molly replied.
