Chapter 740 Ignoring Randall
Cherry Villa.
From the day Teddy was born until now, this was the first time he had been away from Vera.
Vera thought she could finally get some studying done today, but instead, she found herself lying on the couch, feeling down and barely touching her lunch.
The house was eerily quiet. When Teddy was around, every corner was filled with laughter and the sounds of his cries. Vera never felt the house was empty or silent.
Now, Teddy had been sent back to the Olteran family. Vera felt out of place at home.
It hadn't even been 24 hours since Patrick had taken Teddy back, and he was already calling Shawn frequently to check on Teddy.
Vera couldn't focus on her books and slumped on the couch. "Patrick, I miss Teddy."
Patrick missed him too, but he tried to stay strong. "He's always crying. What's there to miss? You won't feel this way tomorrow. It's just the first day, and you're not used to it."
Vera looked at Patrick. "Let's not kid ourselves. It's been less than 24 hours, and you've called Dad eight times. Don't tell me you don't miss him."
Patrick replied, "I won't miss him tomorrow."
The next day, Vera still felt an emptiness inside. "Patrick, I think I love Teddy more than I love you."
Patrick responded, "You didn't have to say that."
Vera was weaning Teddy, and her chest was painfully engorged, making it hard for her to eat.
On his way to buy medicine for Vera, Patrick drove through the brightly lit city, his longing for Teddy growing stronger.
When he got home, Patrick handed the medicine to Vera. "Vera, it's dark now. Teddy is probably asleep. Should we go see him?"
Vera nodded eagerly. She had been wanting to see him. Watching the videos in the family group chat, she saw Teddy's eyelashes still wet with tears, clearly having just cried. As a mother, her heart ached.
Patrick drove, and in the middle of the night, they returned to the Olteran family home.
In the living room, Sebastian was holding Teddy, gently patting his little bottom to soothe him to sleep. Molly said, "Sebastian, you're amazing. None of us could calm him down, but you did."
Sebastian had come to take Molly home again.
Hearing a car in the front yard, everyone turned to look.
Soon, Patrick and Vera quietly entered the living room. "Is Teddy asleep?"
Shawn gestured to Teddy in Sebastian's arms. "He just fell asleep."
Patrick and Vera approached. As Vera bent down to pick up Teddy, Patrick, knowing Vera's chest was sore from weaning, took him instead.
Teddy lay in Patrick's arms, murmuring "Daddy" in his sleep.
At that moment, Patrick's heart melted.
Everyone had been counting the times Teddy cried, but he kept looking at the door. Shawn said, "Don't underestimate him. He knows his parents. He was holding your photos all night."
The more Shawn spoke, the more Vera felt reluctant to leave.
After seeing Teddy, Vera was about to put him back in bed and leave when Teddy sensed something and woke up. Seeing Patrick holding him, Teddy immediately started crying again, clinging to Patrick and looking for Vera.
Molly, moved by the sight of the family, said, "Even someone who's not a mom can't stand this. How can Vera bear it?"
Unable to bear it, Patrick and Vera softened. "Don't cry. How about we take you home?"
After two days and nights away from Patrick and Vera, Teddy was finally sitting in the back seat of Patrick's car. By ten o'clock, they had taken Teddy back home.
With the window open, Vera let Teddy stand on her lap. "Say goodbye to Grandpa. Can you do that?"
Vera held Teddy's little hand, teaching him to wave.
Teddy grabbed the window edge with one hand and waved to his family with the other, then turned and clung tightly to Vera's neck, not letting go.
Vera said, "Dad, Cindy, you should go back. Teddy's been crying, and you haven't had a good rest."
Shawn said, "You're taking him already? Wasn't it supposed to be a week? It's only been two days."
Vera replied, "We'll try weaning him at home. I've seen other moms succeed this way. I'll learn from their experience."
On the way home, Vera said, "Patrick, we have no principles."
"Because we have a weakness."
Children were their parents' weakness.
At home, Teddy had to sleep with Vera because he was now smart enough to find her food at night. Patrick started sleeping in the middle, separating mother and child.
That night, the family of three had a good night's sleep.
The previous two nights without Teddy, Vera couldn't sleep well, and her chest pain kept her awake. She would wake up in the middle of the night, crying from the discomfort, and Patrick saw it all, feeling both the longing for Teddy and the pain for Vera.
If he could take on the pain, Patrick wished he could bear all the suffering for Vera and Teddy.
With Teddy gone, the Olteran Manor was quiet for a day, and everyone started missing him again. "If we had known, we wouldn't have let Vera leave. They could have stayed here."
Cindy agreed, "Exactly."
With no fun at the Olteran Manor, Molly packed her bags and happily returned to the Chase Manor.
Ellie asked, "Sebastian isn't mad at you anymore?"
Molly, unfazed, said, "He already taught me a lesson. He won't hit me again."
Ellie said, "Molly, with your personality, even if you didn't marry Sebastian now, you'd probably end up with him eventually."
Molly was puzzled. "Why?"
"Because you wouldn't find anyone else. Only Sebastian would take you."
"Mom, every personality is shaped by the people around them. If it weren't for my parents' good genes, your and Dad's education, and Sebastian's years of scheming, there wouldn't be today's Molly."
In the end, it was everyone else's fault. Ellie said, "I can't argue with you. Just go to work."
Molly muttered, "You can't argue with me, but you still talk. If you weren't my mom, I wouldn't let you off so easily."
Ellie asked, "What are you mumbling about?"
"I'm going to work. Don't bother me."
Molly left.
Susan hadn't visited Randall for several days. She didn't answer his calls or reply to his messages.
After another job interview, Randall saw an ice cream vendor on the street. He bought a Häagen-Dazs ice cream and texted Susan: "Got you some Häagen-Dazs. Where are you? I'll bring it to you."
The message went unanswered.
Randall saw Vera's videos of Teddy in the family group chat, and Susan would reply there but not to him.
"How can Susan be so stubborn? I never knew she had such a temper."
Later, Randall called Vera. Without any small talk, he asked, "How's Teddy doing with weaning? How are you? Can you ask Susan where she is for me?"
Vera replied, "He's fine. I'm fine. She's at the school library."
"Thanks."
