Chapter 817 Conscience Condemned
Using Sebastian's method, it took less than two minutes.
Molly finally sat up in bed, her hair a mess. "Mom, I'm so tired," she groaned.
Ellie was taken aback by Molly's complaint. "Sebastian told me to do it."
Hearing Sebastian's name, Molly quickly perked up. "He's back?"
Molly got up from the couch and looked around, not seeing any sign of Sebastian. If he were back, he would definitely have carried her to bed.
Ellie shook her head when Molly looked at her.
Molly picked up her phone to call him, but noticed an unread message. She opened it to find a message and pictures from Sebastian sent last night. "Oh, I must have fallen asleep around two."
She thought she could stay up all night.
Molly went upstairs and looked at the messy bed. She shook it a couple of times to get rid of the lingering romantic atmosphere from last night, then went to the bathroom to quickly freshen up.
In the morning, Sebastian sent Molly another message, but she didn't reply.
Vera woke up holding Teddy, but her husband wasn't in the bedroom. She cuddled Teddy under the covers, reluctant to get up. Teddy whined, wanting to get out and play, but Vera's wrist still hurt from holding him too long.
To distract Teddy, Vera started a video call with Molly.
"Molly, I'm so busy. What's up? Oh, my little darling, why are you still in bed?" Molly asked happily, seeing Vera and Teddy on the screen.
Vera smiled. "You seem in a good mood. Things with Sebastian going well?"
Molly twirled her hair, distracted. "He worked late at the station last night." Then she looked at Teddy's chubby face on the screen. "I'm happy because I get to see Teddy. Seeing Teddy always makes me happy. Isn't that right, Teddy?"
Teddy looked up at his mom, not understanding Molly. Vera and Teddy exchanged glances. "Molly means she really likes you."
Vera hugged Teddy and asked, "Molly, how do you feel about Sebastian having an ex?"
"Doesn't bother me," Molly said. "I knew from the start."
Vera pressed on. "What if Sebastian rekindled things with her? What if he treated her the way he treats you now? How would you feel?"
Molly was alone in the big conference room, slacking off. Vera's question hit her deepest fear. If Sebastian gave all his affection to that woman, Molly imagined him doing all the things they did together with her. Shopping, carrying her bags, driving her to dates, sleeping in her bed.
Molly's grip on her phone tightened. Vera and Teddy could see the change in her expression. Teddy, who wanted to go out, stayed quietly in his mom's arms, scared by Molly's darkening face.
"If Sebastian ever betrays me, I'll make sure he leaves me a child, then I'll castrate him before I kill him," Molly said coldly.
Vera laughed. "You're so generous, leaving him a child."
"I have to. He worked so hard to make me love him, then he betrays me? Castrating and killing him is the least I could do. I won't let jealousy and hatred ruin my face."
"The Chase family only has Sebastian to carry on the name. The family rituals can't be broken, but it's not because I still love him."
Molly seemed to seriously consider Vera's question, making Vera think she might actually do it.
Molly smiled and joked, "If I really killed him, my dad, Vincent, and Patrick would back me up. The Chase family wouldn't dare pursue it. I'd take the kid and go on vacation."
Vera chuckled. "You've thought this through. I like your plan. If Patrick ever betrayed me, I might not even want Teddy."
Teddy suddenly called out, "Ma..."
That one word made Vera feel guilty. She hugged him tightly and, in front of Molly, showed their mother-son bond. "Of course, I'll take you wherever I go."
Teddy felt reassured, knowing his mom still loved him.
Molly laughed. "I can't handle your mother-son love. Gotta go, I have work to do."
She quickly hung up but didn't go back to work. Vera's question had completely unsettled her.
She couldn't focus on work. Soon, her phone buzzed again with a message from Vera: "Molly, my question was just to understand how you feel about Sebastian. Now I know, and so do you.
Find a time to talk to Sebastian. If he's that important to you, don't let misunderstandings or doubts torture you."
Molly put down her phone and went to the manager's office. "I need the afternoon off."
At the hotel, Patrick was on the phone as he returned. "You said you'd come in a few days. Did you give a specific time?"
"Stop talking nonsense. If you can't wait to see the kid, come to Vesperia. If you can wait, stay home. I've brought Vera and the kid here."
Patrick returned, and Teddy kicked off the covers, stretching out on the bed and smiling up at Vera.
Vera asked, "Did you hear your dad?"
She cuddled Teddy under the covers. Teddy watched his dad take off his black coat; Patrick's one-handed move impressed both wife and child.
Vera propped her head on her hand, eyes full of love. Teddy lay on the bed, kicking excitedly.
Patrick hung his coat and walked to the bed, kissing Vera and reaching for Teddy with one hand, lifting him. "Find a hotel to stay at. We won't be back for a few days. Vera and the kid are still having fun."
Scott yelled on the other end, "Patrick, haven't you had enough fun? Why now?"
