Chapter 805 Luring by Eating

Patrick frowned and asked Vera, "Why's Dad been taking medicine lately?"

Shawn explained, "Medicine isn't just for when you're sick; it helps keep you healthy too. I'm getting older, so I take it for wellness."

Vera added, "That's right."

Patrick was still skeptical. Shawn didn't seem like the type to willingly take bitter medicine.

"Let me see the medicine pack."

Shawn snapped, "What, you don't believe me? Patrick, are you trying to start something?"

Vera quickly pulled Patrick aside, "Honey, Dad's been helping me with the baby every day. Don't upset him. If you don't have anything else, hurry up and get to work."

Patrick was still uneasy, but seeing Shawn holding their baby Teddy, he realized how hard Shawn had it.

So, he didn't press further.

"I'll put the ointment on you before I head to the office."

Before leaving, Patrick took Vera to the bathroom. He patiently wet the ointment to soften it, all the while wondering if Shawn was really taking the medicine.

Cindy said to Shawn, "Dad, you should change your clothes before Patrick comes out and asks again."

Shawn whispered back, "Are you kidding? Changing now would make it obvious I'm hiding something. Patrick's smart; he'd figure it out. I need to keep up the act."

Cindy looked at Shawn, thinking: There's not much of an act here.

Finally, amidst Vera's loud complaints, they removed the old ointment and applied a new one.

Before heading to work, Patrick wanted to hold Teddy one more time. Shawn, feeling wronged, turned away with Teddy, not letting Patrick see.

Patrick said, "Teddy, Dad's leaving."

Teddy waved his hand, "Bye, Daddy."

Once the "judge" left, Vera felt relieved, and Shawn let out a sigh of relief, too.

Shawn said, "Vera, you're really clever."

Vera modestly waved her hand, "Not really, Dad's acting was spot on."

Shawn said, "We make a great team."

Vera nodded in agreement, "From now on, Dad, I'll take care of you."

"No problem, Dad won't let you down."

At that moment, they seemed like the best of friends.

Cindy shook her head helplessly, walked over, and picked up Teddy. "Vera, what did the doctor say about our baby's weight?"

Vera replied, "The doctor said, 'Not too heavy, not too light.' We should let him exercise more. Personally, I think Teddy isn't too chubby; he's cute and cuddly. Only Patrick thinks he's too heavy and hurts my arm, so he wants Teddy to lose weight."

Other kids were already crawling or even walking with support, and Vera started to worry. So, she began spending time at home helping Teddy practice crawling.

Teddy lay on the floor tiles, not moving, while Vera worked up a sweat with no response from him.

Cindy saw this and affectionately called Teddy, "Little lazybones."

Because she loved him, the nickname came naturally.

Vera, exhausted, sat on the floor. "Lazy, huh? Let's see if you can out-lazy your mom."

Mother and son stared at each other. Vera placed a plate of fruit next to her, then opened her phone to watch a show while eating.

Shawn wanted to get some ice cream, but Vera gave him a threatening look. "Remember how bad it was being in the hospital? You agreed to only two pieces a day."

Shawn was feeling bored.

But Vera hadn't had any ice cream today, so she grabbed a pack, opened it, and started eating. She also made a deal with the security guard, "When Patrick's car pulls up, call me right away. Do a good job, and you might get a raise. Mess up, and you might get some overtime."

The guard, fearing Patrick's wrath, nodded. Vera reassured him, "Don't worry, I'll handle it. I'm in charge here."

So, as long as Patrick was out the door, Vera was carefree.

She ate ice cream, watched her show, and munched on fruit.

Teddy was left on the floor, drooling and creating a puddle on the shiny tiles. Cindy occasionally wiped the floor.

Teddy saw Vera eating and not sharing, got angry, and slapped the floor. His hand hurt, and he cried, his face turning red.

Finally, his little hand took a step forward, dragging his small body slowly.

Vera noticed out of the corner of her eye but didn't move, continuing to eat.

After crawling about three feet, Vera worried Teddy might be tired. She put down her phone, moved to Teddy, picked him up, and let him lick the ice cream. "See, you can crawl. Mom's got you figured out."

With the skill mastered, it was time for regular practice.

When Patrick came home, he found Teddy slowly crawling around the floor. He picked him up, kissed him twice, "How did you learn to crawl?"

Teddy looked at Vera holding a big peach, drooling on Patrick's face, wanting him to get the peach from Vera.

Daily practice made Teddy proficient, and he no longer needed his parents' help to crawl around.

Vera's hard work paid off a little. She stood behind Teddy, "Teddy, you can crawl. I'm so proud."

Vera didn't know that after pride comes frustration!

In just a few days, Teddy became very agile at crawling.

Kids learn quickly.

Vera, for some reason, bought Teddy a turtle costume.

Teddy loved the costume, with a big green shell on his back, crawling around the floor, looking more like a little sea turtle.

Vera walked beside him, saying, "Teddy, maybe you can be like your uncle and become a 'sea turtle.' Mom thinks you look happy doing it."

Teddy crawled for a while, then grabbed the rug and pulled at the fibers.

When he got tired, Vera took care of him, giving him a small fruit, peeling the skin for him to eat.

Patrick came home from work, opened the door, and a "little turtle" crawled over, smiling and calling out to him.

Patrick bent down, picked up Teddy, who had fruit residue on his face. Patrick wiped it off. "Where do you want to go this weekend? I'll take you as a reward for learning to crawl."

"Honey, I've worked the hardest. I want to go somewhere with mountains and water," Vera suggested.

Patrick said to Vera, "Then find a place, and I'll take you this weekend."

After holding Teddy for a while, Patrick put him down and checked Vera's wrist, "Does it still hurt?"

"No, it doesn't." With Patrick's arms empty, Vera hugged him, shamelessly kissing his face.

Patrick's handsome face showed a smile and deep affection. He wrapped his arm around Vera's waist, ready to return the kiss.
