Chapter 749 Stealing the Nephew
From behind, Ian said, "Mr. Olteran, you're really talking out of your ass now." Even though they didn't meet often, they had heard a few things about each other.
Scott added, "We've all heard that Vera's quite the fighter."
"You heard wrong."
"Then what was that about Vera giving you a hard time before?" Scott pressed.
Patrick replied, "You wouldn't get it since you're not married."
Their relationship with Vera was limited to knowing of each other's existence, with very little conversation and no real familiarity. They had only met a few times and had never formally gotten to know each other.
So, when Vera appeared, everyone fell silent.
Joshua got straight to the point, "What's up with Randall? You went to great lengths to get me to post a job listing, but with no requirements, just to hire Randall."
Ian chimed in, "Yeah, not long ago, you were bragging about Randall taking over your company and agreeing to be the chief secretary. But when I came to the office today, he was nowhere to be found."
Patrick said, "I fired Randall and kicked him out of the house."
"Mr. Olteran, really? You valued Randall so much, how could you let him go?" Owen asked.
Patrick took a deep breath, "I could."
"If you really could, you wouldn't be asking us to help him."
"And we didn't succeed."
Ian thought about the job Randall was applying for, "Mr. Olteran, why does Randall want to work in IT? Why not take over the company? Can he even do it?"
Patrick nodded, "He can."
Ian was puzzled, "But Randall grew up under your guidance. Most of his skills were taught by you, and you don't know anything about IT. How did he learn?"
Joshua then remembered something, "Patrick, was Randall the hacker who broke into the Dark Web?"
The room fell silent.
Everyone looked at Patrick. They hadn't forgotten that Patrick had a hidden ace up his sleeve—a hacker. Even places that their company's top executives and internationally renowned figures couldn't breach, Patrick's hacker could.
Patrick smiled slightly, "I don't know where Randall learned it."
Ian patted his friend's shoulder, "Mr. Olteran, impressive! If you don't want Randall, give him to me! Randall is in his early twenties with a limitless future. You already have Teddy, so let me take Randall. I'll go recognize him as my nephew right now."
Scott said, "With Randall's skills, he shouldn't have any trouble finding a job. Even if he took private gigs, he'd earn plenty. With his abilities, he could come and go from your Olteran Group without a trace."
Patrick's smile faded, "The Dark Web is looking for him."
Though his skills weren't as good as Randall's, Patrick had the best information. The Dark Web, being so tightly secured, had been breached by a single hacker, and they couldn't catch him. Their secrecy had been challenged, and they wouldn't let it go.
To this day, they were searching everywhere for that person.
If Randall, being so young, stood out, he would quickly be caught.
When Randall bought a car last time, he helped a company quickly fix some data. Patrick got angry, and since then, Randall didn't dare misuse his skills.
Randall knew exactly what kind of people and transactions were on the Dark Web.
"So, Randall is still looking for a job," Joshua said.
Patrick nodded.
"Finding a job shouldn't be that hard now, right?" Ian asked. "I heard my dad say the city is relaxing policies to retain talent. He even mentioned it with Vincent, Randall's dad. Randall should be considered talent, so why is he still job hunting?"
Patrick had seen the companies Randall applied to and noticed he wasn't in a hurry. Patrick guessed Randall's intentions and smirked, "He's playing mind games."
They talked until it was time to leave work. In the evening, Patrick brought his friends home.
Teddy had changed clothes again, and Ian immediately pointed out, "Look! The clothes Teddy is wearing, I bought them!"
Teddy turned his face away, clinging to Vera, ignoring the others.
Scott said, "Why are you so excited? Teddy doesn't even like you, right, Teddy?"
Joshua walked over and clapped his hands at Teddy, "Let me hold you."
Everyone kept calling "Teddy," making Patrick feel unnecessary.
With so many people around, Teddy only wanted to be held by Patrick or Vera. Anyone else trying to hold him would make him pout adorably, which somehow made his godfathers find him even cuter.
"Look, Teddy's crying again. Look at those teeth!" Ian said excitedly, holding the chubby Teddy up.
Vera reminded herself to be graceful, poised, and gentle with Patrick's friends visiting today. But one Teddy ruined it all.
"Theodore, Teddy, I'm warning you, if you throw your bottle again, I'll spank you," Vera sternly warned the little boy sitting in his dad's lap.
Ian, seeing Vera's motherly stance, felt a bit intimidated for some reason. "Teddy's still young. What if you scare him by spanking him?"
Joshua added, "If Teddy's hungry, let him eat. If Patrick can't afford formula, we can cover it. There's plenty for Teddy to waste."
Owen said, "How about we transfer a thousand dollars a day for formula? Would that be enough?"
Scott held Teddy's hand, "Teddy, come home with me. You'll be the most spoiled with me around."
Teddy sat on his dad's lap, looking up with his chubby, pale face, pouting after being scolded by Vera, feeling wronged.
Vera couldn't hold back her temper, handed the bottle Teddy had thrown to Patrick, and said, "Make him drink it." Her tone left no room for refusal.
Patrick took the bottle and exchanged a look with the pitiful Teddy.
Vera walked away, patting her chest, reminding herself: Be gentle, be gentle, I need to be gentle.
At dinner, when Vera's hand landed on Teddy's bottom, she forgot to remind herself to be gentle again.
Teddy refused to sit in his high chair, kicking his legs like he was swimming. After finally getting him in, Vera turned to get a spoon, and Teddy knocked over the freshly made food. The food spilled on Vera's hand and Teddy's clothes.
"Are you acting up because you know you have a lot of people doting on you today?"
Vera gave Teddy a couple of smacks and then took him upstairs to change his clothes.
