Chapter 716 A Nickname That Is Not Very Satisfactory

Randall drove the car down the mountain.

Once they reached downtown, they picked up a bottle of mouthwash. Susan squatted by the curb, rinsing her mouth until she felt better. They passed a breakfast spot and decided to grab some food. "We don't have time to get your books now. Just borrow from a classmate for the morning. I'll go home during lunch and bring them to you in the afternoon," Randall said.

"Don't worry about it, Randall. It's too much hassle. I'll just share with a classmate," Susan replied as their breakfast arrived.

"Alright, if I can't pick you up tonight, just grab a cab home," Randall said.

Susan nodded.

Meanwhile, Vera had fallen asleep in the car and was driven to school.

Patrick was in a great mood. He even walked Vera to the school building, watching her sleep. He woke her up five minutes before class started.

Vera barely had time to be mad at Patrick. Realizing she was almost late, she rushed out of the car and into the classroom.

Patrick watched her with a satisfied smile.

Teddy, who had been left at home, kept Shawn company.

Shawn discovered that the stroller Molly bought had a great advantage: he didn't need his cane while pushing it. No matter how far he walked, he didn't get tired.

He strolled around the yard, looked at the pond, played with the fountain, and went to the quiet lake to look for fish but found none. Then he went to the garden to cultivate Teddy's taste.

Teddy swung his legs in the stroller, squinting in the sunlight. His delicate skin looked adorable in the sun.

Since Teddy learned to sit, many people's arms got a break.

Suddenly, Teddy started babbling again.

"Say 'Grandpa,'" Shawn encouraged.

Teddy babbled incoherently.

Shawn gave up on teaching him.

Randall went to the office early, still feeling tired. He made himself a cup of coffee. When his secretary offered to make it for him, Randall declined. "I'll do it myself from now on."

Molly yawned constantly at work, looking exhausted.

At lunchtime, Molly didn't even bother to go out. She went straight to her mom Ellie's office, flopped onto the couch, and said, "Mom, whatever you're eating, I'll have the same. Don't wake me up. I need to sleep."

Ellie, leaning back in her chair with her arms crossed, said, "If you stay up late playing on your phone again tonight, I'm taking it away."

Molly handed over her phone with her eyes closed. "Take it."

At noon, Vera met up with Susan. "Did you and Randall sleep in the car last night?"

Susan nodded. "Randall drank last night and couldn't drive, so we didn't go home."

"How's Randall feeling?" Vera asked.

Susan, unsure how to answer, said, "Vera, you'll find out tonight."

Vera, being sharp, guessed from Susan's hesitation. "Alright, let's eat."

In the afternoon, Vera returned home from school.

Teddy stood on Cindy's lap, almost clapping with excitement. He was always happy to see Vera, even if he had been ignored the night before.

"Teddy, I'm home!" Vera ran over, picked him up, and kissed his cheek. "I won't ignore you tonight. You're my favorite."

The more Vera kissed him, the happier Teddy looked.

Vera hugged Teddy tightly, overjoyed.

"Cindy, Molly, and Sebastian are coming for dinner tonight. Make a few extra dishes," Vera instructed.

Cindy turned to relay the message to the kitchen staff.

Seeing his mom, Teddy wanted milk, so Vera took him away.

Later, Molly and Sebastian arrived home. Molly immediately ran to Shawn and hugged his arm. "Dad, did you miss me?"

Shawn replied, "I have Teddy. Why would I miss you?"

Molly pouted, "Fine, I'll leave then."

"Stay for dinner. The kitchen made extra of your favorite dishes," Shawn said.

Molly hugged his arm tighter. "I knew it was you who told them to make my favorites."

Shawn looked away, feeling very happy.

"You get off work at five. Why are you so late?" Shawn asked, having waited for Molly at the door for a while.

Sebastian, who had just picked up Teddy from his stroller, answered, "Dad, Molly came to see me at work. Everyone at the station loves her and kept chatting with her."

Molly nodded, "Yep, they all love me."

Shawn said, "Of course, my daughter is always loved."

"Except sometimes by her own dad," Molly said knowingly.

Shawn nodded without embarrassment. "True, sometimes you do annoy me."

Teddy, sitting on Sebastian's lap, quickly got comfortable and started babbling.

Soon, Molly took Teddy from Sebastian. "Teddy, call me Auntie."

Silence.

"Okay, you can't say it yet."

When Randall and Susan got home, the first thing they did was shower and change into clean clothes before coming downstairs.

Teddy had just warmed up Sebastian's lap when Randall picked him up. "Let me hold my little buddy."

Teddy looked at Randall's mouth, frowning, seemingly displeased with the nickname.

A few minutes later, Vincent came home, and Teddy was passed to another pair of arms.

Being passed around every day, Teddy was getting exhausted and couldn't remember everyone.

Vera and Molly exchanged a glance. Molly tilted her chin toward the backyard.

Vera got up and went to Randall. "Let's go."

Randall scratched his head, glanced at Susan playing with Teddy, and quietly followed Vera and Molly out.

After they left, Susan turned to see Randall's retreating back. She handed the rattle to Teddy and followed them.

From behind, Vincent's doting voice could be heard. "Teddy, sweetie, this is a bell. You can't eat it; it's dirty."

Teddy got upset when he wasn't allowed to eat it.

The whole family started to soothe him.

In the backyard, the three of them sat in a triangle, each at a point.

"Let's cut to the chase," Vera said bluntly. "You wanted to work in cybersecurity. Why are you suddenly okay with the future Patrick planned for you?"

Randall was silent for a moment and then said, "I think Patrick has a broader perspective. What he suggests is probably what's best for me."

Molly teased, "Come on, even Teddy wouldn't buy that excuse! If you really liked this job, why did you drag Susan up the mountain and not come back last night? If Ulysses finds out, he'll skin you alive for treating Susan like that."
