Chapter 843 Randall's Truth Always Gets Interrupted

The Chase Manor.

Sebastian had told her he'd come home for dinner tonight, but when he got there, his wife still hadn't returned from work.

Ellie walked in. "Huh, you're home? Then where did Molly go looking for you?"

Mr. Chase. "I told her I'd be back tonight."

Mother and son looked at each other.

Sebastian, who knew his wife well, said, "She ran off. Molly went to investigate a case!"

Sure enough, Sebastian drove to the crime scene and found his wife about to catch a cab home.

When they met, Molly suddenly felt awkward. "Uh... Sebastian, I don't know how I ended up wandering over here."

Sitting in the passenger seat, Sebastian glanced at her and turned the car around to leave.

Molly felt guilty. How could she have forgotten about having dinner with Sebastian today? "Sebastian, we haven't had a date in forever. Let's eat out, okay?"

Sebastian asked, "What progress did you make on the investigation?"

Molly said, "Well, no progress."

Everyone at home had already eaten, so Sebastian took Molly out to dinner.

They went to the restaurant where they usually had their dates.

No need to order. Sebastian just rattled off the names of a few signature dishes he knew well.

Molly said to Sebastian, "Sebastian, guess who I ran into today."

Sebastian didn't feel like guessing.

"Marigold."

Sebastian was speechless.

What a small world. Now whenever he heard Molly mention Marigold's name, he felt inexplicably nervous, worried that Molly would stir up trouble out of nothing.

He was still being punished with separate bedrooms.

He'd been trying to figure out a way to successfully move back in.

But now, the two of them had met again.

Sebastian made a sound of acknowledgment. "Did you chat?"

"We did. I actually wanted to invite her to dinner."

Sebastian looked up at his wife.

His current wife inviting his ex-girlfriend to dinner? He didn't know if this meant his wife didn't love him or was just really laid-back.

Molly continued, "Mainly I wanted to find out what's really going on between her and Scott. Sebastian, do you know?"

Sebastian shook his head. Soon the food arrived, and Sebastian handed her a fork.

"By the way Sebastian, are you still busy with that case? It feels like it's been going on forever. Any progress?"

Sebastian said, "Let me back in the bedroom tonight, and I'll tell you."

Molly said, "Never mind, I don't want to hear it."

Sebastian smiled faintly.

After a while, Molly asked curiously again, "Really no progress?"

Sebastian picked up a piece of meat for her and handed it to Molly. "During dinner, let's talk about other things, not work."

Molly nodded. "Then after we go shopping, let's talk about spending money."

Randall had said that Vera was a gold digger and Molly was money-obsessed, and both Vera and Molly had beaten him up for it.

Because neither of them liked Randall stating the truth so bluntly!

But facts proved that a money lover needs more money to make her happy, and someone who loves gold needs more spending to keep her cheerful too.

Another day after work, Randall was about to leave when Erik appeared again. "Randall, got a minute?"

Randall felt this manager had been showing up way too often lately. He'd refused once, twice—it would be awkward to refuse a third time, so he nodded. "Erik, go ahead."

"Not turning me down this time?" Erik joked with a laugh.

Randall smiled back. "Mr. Brown has asked me three times now. Even if I had something super urgent this time, it would have to wait until after Mr. Brown."

His words were always airtight.

Erik wanted to tease Randall about refusing him twice before, to let him know he was upset.

But Randall turned it around, building Erik up, saying that even though he did have urgent matters this time, nothing could be more important than Erik. He gave him tremendous face.

"Come on, let's ride together."

Randall nodded and followed Erik out. In the elevator, he said, "Mr. Brown, let me call my girlfriend first to let her know where I'm going, so she won't worry."

Erik looked at Randall's phone screen. "So that's your girlfriend."

"Yeah." Randall held his phone and called Susan. "Susan, I've got something tonight. Study well at home by yourself."

Susan was watching shows on her computer. When Randall called, she immediately turned down the volume. Then while munching on chicken wings, she answered the phone, with a drink sitting on the table. "Mm, Randall, what are you going to do?"

Randall said, "Going out with my boss. I'll contact you when I get home."

Susan obediently said okay.

"Don't keep watching shows. Your computer can't handle it. Don't come to me again when it freezes up asking me to fix it. After you pass your exam, I'll watch with you."

Susan replied, "Thanks Randall, you go ahead. I'll study hard tonight. Bye."

She hung up cheerfully, then stretched. "Finally I can relax."

She turned the computer volume back up and sat there, eating, drinking, and watching.

Living the good life.

Randall walked to the parking lot and saw Erik's car. Erik handed him the keys. "Can you drive?"

Randall said modestly, "I can manage."

Wasn't it the same one he'd picked out before?

Sitting in the car, Erik named a hotel and had Randall drive there. "Tonight there'll be some important people. When you get there, be sharp and learn to recognize the big shots."

Randall said, "Okay. Mr. Brown, I'm curious. Why do you keep bringing me along to meet these people?"

Erik said from the back, "You're the youngest in the company, and also the smartest. I appreciate talent too. Randall, you're still young and don't understand. At your age, it's not easy to meet someone who appreciates you. Young people shouldn't have their heads full of romance and girlfriends. To do big things, you need to put relationships aside. Remember, a man's career is what matters most."

Randall smiled but didn't say anything.

Erik sensed Randall's disagreement.

He added, "Do you know how I became successful?"

Randall shook his head. "No, but I'm curious."

On the way to the hotel, Erik told Randall about all the hardships and cold shoulders he'd endured back in the day.

After listening, Randall wasn't particularly moved.

When they reached the hotel, Randall said, "Mr. Brown, we're here. You go ahead, I'll park the car and find you inside in a bit."

Erik nodded. "OK."

He got out and watched Randall drive away, lost in thought.

Normal people driving an unfamiliar car would familiarize themselves with it first, but Randall just started driving right away. This detail didn't escape Erik's notice.

Unless you're very familiar with it, you wouldn't just adjust the seat and start driving.

Erik remembered what his subordinate had told him. That Randall had a car worth a hundred thousand dollars.

Erik wasn't quite sure, but he turned and went to the hotel lobby to wait for Randall.
