Chapter 783 Meat Can Heal

The next morning, Susan's suitcase was by the door, with Cindy's beautifully wrapped gift placed on top.

Shawn was reluctant to see Susan go. "Susan, make sure to video call Grandpa often. Come back early when the break is over."

Susan nodded. "Grandpa, you should go to bed early and not stay up late playing games. It's not good for your health."

Shawn stubbornly replied, "Grandpa doesn't play games."

Patrick also gave his advice. "Listen to your parents when you get home. If you want to come back, we'll pick you up."

Susan, with her backpack on, looked at her family, who came to see her off. She finally looked at Teddy, reluctant to part. "Teddy, I'm leaving. I'll miss you."

Teddy cooperatively yawned and then flopped onto Patrick's face, showing their close bond.

"Vera, make sure to send me lots of videos of Teddy," Susan requested.

Vera pointed at Teddy. "Why don't you just take him with you?"

Susan replied, "Okay," and actually reached out to pick up Teddy.

Vincent intervened, "Vera, you can't joke about that."

Vera laughed. "Vincent, don't take it seriously. Don't worry, Teddy won't leave. Susan would be crying to bring him back before she even hits the highway."

Before leaving, Susan hugged Teddy as she wished, giving him several gentle kisses on his little face. "I'm leaving. I'll miss you."

Teddy stuck out his tongue and looked at Susan obediently, then turned to watch Patrick.

Since Randall was coming back in the afternoon, he drove up to the house. As everyone went out to see Susan off, Randall saw Patrick holding Teddy.

He felt a sudden pang of anxiety.

Patrick looked at Susan and reminded her, "Drive safely."

Everyone knew who that message was really for.

Susan was in the passenger seat, but the real driver was often the one reminded to "drive safely."

Susan was the "liaison" between Patrick and Randall. "We will. Don't worry."

As Randall and Susan drove off, Teddy wanted to go too!

Teddy watched Randall's car disappear, wishing he could sprout wings and fly after them.

Patrick gently turned Teddy's face back. "Let's go home."

As Teddy was carried back inside, he started crying.

His mouth was wide open, and his eyes were squeezed shut.

Vera curiously asked Shawn, "Dad, why does Teddy always cry with his eyes closed? Where do the tears come from?"

Shawn thought it was a great question and looked at Teddy's crying face, puzzled. "Yeah, where do they come from?"

Cindy came over to see the crying Teddy. "Maybe he has so many tears that they overflow?"

Patrick wiped Teddy's tears. "Don't cry. I'll take you out to play this afternoon."

Teddy continued crying.

Finally, Shawn pushed a stroller and took him to the lawn to watch the morning watering, and Teddy's crying gradually stopped.

Randall drove into the city and temporarily parked by the roadside. He unbuckled his seatbelt. "Stay in the car. I'll go buy something."

Susan nodded.

She watched as Randall went into a fruit store and came out with a bag of fruit.

He quickly returned to the driver's seat. "I washed these with the store's water. It'll be a long drive, so you can snack on these when we hit the highway."

Susan pouted. "Randall, I want meat."

Randall glanced at Susan and complained, "You're hard to please."

He then stopped at a meat shop and bought her a big chicken leg. "How about this?"

Susan nodded, satisfied.

Randall drove to the highway station. Before getting on the highway, he stopped at a gas station. "Fill it up," he told the attendant.

He went inside the station, bought a case of drinks, opened a few bottles, and handed one to Susan in the passenger seat.

Susan ate and drank in the car while Randall paid and drove off.

"Why did you suddenly want meat?" Randall asked. Susan used to be easy to feed, eating whatever was given to her. She loved fruit and could eat it until she was full. Her sudden craving for meat surprised him.

Susan took a bite of the chicken leg. "I miss Teddy. I'm using food to cure my sadness. Fruit isn't comfort food; meat is."

Randall teased, "Missing the chubby one, so you want to become chubby yourself?"

Susan offered him a bite of the chicken leg. "I'm happy. I don't need curing."

The road was busy, with many intersections.

Susan prepared to use the GPS, but Randall said, "No need. I remember the way."

"You've only been to my house twice."

"Twice is enough. You can play on your phone. I'll drive. If you want to listen to music, connect to Bluetooth."

Susan shook her head. "No music."

The car was quiet. They occasionally chatted, which made Susan happier than listening to music.

Back at home, Vera held Teddy, who was getting harder to handle as he grew. In the air-conditioned room, he cried until he was sweaty, even losing a shoe.

Cindy came over. "Vera, is Teddy feeling unwell?"

Vera shook her head. "No, he's just tired and can't sleep, so he's fussing."

A few minutes later, Patrick's car started in the yard, and Teddy turned to look out the window.

Patrick returned to the living room. "Put him in the car."

Vera carried Teddy out and placed him in the driver's seat. She sat beside him, gently patting his little bottom and humming a lullaby to soothe him to sleep.

Teddy explored Patrick's car, looking at the armrest and trying to reach the steering wheel with his short legs, which was a bit awkward.

Patrick, sitting in the passenger seat, smiled. "Short legs, just like Vera."

Vera blew at Patrick's face. "Honey, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything. Go find Teddy's lost shoe."

Patrick kept quiet, not daring to tease anymore.

For some reason, the car was more comfortable than his parents' arms. Soon, the exhausted Teddy fell asleep.

"Honey, I want to discuss something. This morning, Dad's words reminded me. Susan went home, and Randall isn't here. Molly is still staying with the Chase family. It's just Dad and Cindy's family here. It's quite lonely. How about we stay here for a few days, keep Dad company, and then go back home with Teddy?"

Patrick smiled at Vera. "I just follow you two around. You decide these things."
