Chapter 741 Not a Good Match?
The efficient call ended, and Randall hung up.
Randall put down his phone, replaying Susan's angry words in his head, "Are you seriously mad and studying with another guy?"
He panicked, jumped into his car, and sped straight to the school.
Since finishing his coursework, Randall rarely visited the campus. The few times he did were to pick up or drop off Susan, and most of the time, he just parked at the entrance.
Driving to the school again, Randall felt a sense of detachment from the students on campus, like he was no longer one of them.
He parked near the library, glanced at the ice cream shop, and got out to find Susan.
Susan had initially been studying at home. She wanted to go to the library, but a new puppy, Teddy, kept her at home. So, she spent her days with Teddy.
After Teddy left, Susan got bored. Coincidentally, a classmate invited her to study at the library. "Susan, want to go to the library? The class committee is organizing a study group. We're not great at science, and the study leader can help us. Plus, the class president booked a small conference room for us. Are you in?"
Susan, holding the book that gave her a headache, was lost in thought.
Thinking that Randall didn't care about her, she decisively replied, "Sure."
At the library, a group of ten met at the entrance. There was a study leader, the class president, with the key, and eight students needing extra help.
Susan was one of them. They headed to a conference room on the third floor.
The room had glass walls, so you could see everyone inside from the outside.
Susan sat in the back corner. Soon, another student sat next to her. "Susan, didn't expect to see you here."
Susan looked at the stylishly dressed guy with round glasses and slightly curly ash-blonde hair.
She felt a bit guilty. They had been classmates for a year, but she didn't know his name. "I'm not good at this subject, so I came to get some help."
Susan's mind raced. She secretly opened the study group's chat to find his name.
"You don't know my name, do you?"
Susan was taken aback. "What?" Was it that obvious?
The guy chuckled. "I'm John Williams."
Susan didn't recognize him but smiled and nodded.
"I'll add you on Facebook. Accept it, and I'll send you my name. That way, you won't forget it again. We're both weak in this subject, so we can help each other out."
Susan agreed. "Okay."
Soon, a friend request popped up in the group chat. Susan hesitated, thinking about Randall's low emotional intelligence. If he knew she added another guy on Facebook, would he be mad? Would he break up with her? Would he think she was cheating?
But if he wasn't mad, did that mean he didn't care about her?
"Susan, what are you thinking about?" John waved his hand in front of her, smiling. "Don't you want to get to know your classmates?"
Susan shook her head and accepted the request.
Even though she accepted, she still felt uneasy.
During the study session, Susan struggled with a problem. She tried to figure it out on paper but couldn't.
John offered to help. "I know this one. Let me show you."
Susan had been stuck for a while, so she didn't refuse. She turned to look at the steps on the paper, focusing intently.
She had no idea that someone was watching her from the doorway.
Randall had used his student ID to enter the library and scanned the first floor. The bright sunlight made it almost empty. Not seeing anyone familiar, he moved to the second floor.
The second floor was busier. Randall searched table by table. He called Susan, but her phone was on silent.
Eventually, Randall spotted a familiar water bottle. Susan had one just like it, but the seat was empty.
He walked over, saw the notes on the book, and quickly left.
It wasn't Susan's handwriting.
Randall didn't know when he became so familiar with Susan's handwriting, but one glance was enough to tell.
With no luck on the second floor, he headed to the third, mostly filled with conference rooms for group debates and study sessions.
Randall walked past the glass doors, peering into each room. He stopped at one, his eyes fixed on the scene inside.
Susan was indeed studying with another guy!
Randall stood at the door, watching Susan discuss something with a male student. Occasionally, she stood up, pointing at a problem in her book, asking another guy in the middle, "I can't simplify this equation. Where did I go wrong?"
Randall finally stepped forward and knocked on the door, drawing everyone's attention.
They all turned to look at him.
Susan turned too, and seeing Randall, she was so shocked that she dropped her book on the table.
"Randall."
"Who's that? He's so handsome," a girl whispered.
Another girl replied quietly, "He used to be super popular, but then his name and photos just disappeared."
Randall opened the door and introduced himself. "I'm Randall, a junior. Carry on, I'm just here to find someone."
He pulled a chair and placed it between Susan and the guy next to her. "Make some room." Randall's tone was sharp, making the guy immediately move his chair aside.
Randall sat next to Susan, separating her from the guy.
"Who are you looking for?" someone asked.
"My girlfriend," Randall said, nodding towards Susan. "You guys keep studying. I won't interrupt."
Susan blushed, hearing Randall call her his girlfriend in front of everyone for the first time.
Their classmates were stunned. "You're dating Susan?"
Randall looked at their shocked faces. "Don't we make a good couple?"
Susan was speechless. Randall's question sounded like a challenge. How were they supposed to answer that?
The classmates quickly nodded. "Yes, you do."
Randall shamelessly nodded back. "Thanks."
