Chapter 838 The Young Old Father
Shawn was bored, so he gave Vera his phone and had her download TikTok for herself too. Now she watches short videos when she has nothing to do, and occasionally keeps up with what young people are into.
So now when he talks with young people, there's no generation gap at all.
Patrick, on the other hand, can't understand any of the new slang that Vera and Shawn pick up from young people online.
Shawn called Molly. "Dad, you saw me? Where are you?"
Shawn: "I'm on vacation. It was too hot at noon so I came back to sleep." Before sleeping, he saw Molly's video. "What's going on?"
"The factory caught fire. I can't talk now, Dad. The fire's out, I'm going in to check it out."
"Don't go in, come out."
Molly: "Don't worry, I'm with Mom."
After hanging up the video call, Molly was about to follow Ellie inside when Ellie stopped her at the door. "Stay outside, don't move."
"No, I'm going in too."
"No way!"
Molly was speechless.
Usually when her mom scolded her it was fine, but today Marigold was standing right there beside her. Being scolded by her mom in front of her was so embarrassing.
Marigold chuckled softly. She knew Molly would feel better following her mother, so she said, "Ellie, you shouldn't go in either. Let us police handle it."
Ellie was speechless.
Molly cheered up immediately and linked arms with Ellie. "Did you hear that, Mom? Even the police won't let you in. Come on, let's wait outside. What's the point of rushing to the front? You criticized me, but you can't go in either."
Ellie: "Just shut up."
Molly: "Can't do it."
As Molly pulled Ellie along, she soon received a call from Patrick too.
Patrick had been sleeping deeply that afternoon. Perhaps because his wife and child were beside him, his dreams were full of playing around with them. The dream was strange—the clothing was very different from now, but it felt very real.
While dreaming and holding Vera, his phone rang.
It was his father calling.
"Hello, Dad."
"Patrick, go check on Molly quickly. I just saw her in a short video. She said the factory caught fire and was about to go inside. Check if something happened to the Chase family."
Patrick frowned. "What video?"
Shawn suddenly realized and complained about Patrick, "Right, you have a generation gap with us."
"Vera is right here with me." Patrick had already understood his father's complaint and said directly.
Hearing this, Shawn saw hope and quickly told Patrick, "Go quickly, don't let Molly be impulsive. There was a fire inside, how can she go in? Really, her brain... I don't know if this is my daughter, so disobedient. I hadn't even finished talking and she just..."
Shawn kept complaining, and Patrick got tired of listening.
He saw the video and hung up with his father. "Zoey and Max are with you. Don't mention this to them this afternoon so they won't worry. I'll go check on Molly."
"Fine, you don't need to tell me, I already know."
So Patrick woke up his sleeping wife. "Vera, you sleep here this afternoon. I'll come back to pick you up. I need to go out for a bit."
Vera asked groggily, "Honey, where are you going?"
"The Chase family's factory caught fire. I'm going to check it out. Don't worry, I'll tell you the details when I get back."
Patrick quickly changed clothes. Before leaving, he kissed Vera's forehead, rubbed Teddy's cheek, and headed out.
Vera immediately woke up. Her first reaction was concern for her husband. "Honey, don't go inside. After a fire, I've read that another fire could break out."
"Don't worry, I'll put my safety first."
Before, he could risk his life, but now with someone he loved, he would protect himself even for her sake.
Patrick called Molly while heading over.
When he arrived, Molly was being scolded by her mother. "You still wanted to sneak in? Molly, I didn't know you were this rebellious!" When Ellie wasn't looking, Molly had curiously gone to a nearby window and leaned over, as if she wanted to climb through to see the scene.
After being caught, Ellie started scolding her.
Patrick arrived, and Molly immediately straightened up. "Mom, Patrick's here, you can't criticize me anymore."
But as soon as Patrick walked up, Ellie immediately told him what Molly had just done.
Patrick looked sideways, glaring sharply at Molly, his tone cold: "Stand outside this yellow line. Don't come any closer."
Ellie was pleased! If she didn't have to maintain her image in public, she would have gloated too.
Molly's face fell. "...Patrick, I wasn't climbing through the window. I was just curious to see what it looked like inside after the fire."
Patrick glanced at Molly again, and she immediately backed down, lowering her head and not daring to speak.
Soon after, Ernest and Marigold came out.
Other police officers arrived too, taking photos and collecting evidence.
Seeing Patrick, Marigold looked at him a couple more times. So this was the man who gave Molly her confidence.
"Patrick, that's Ernest and Marigold." Molly, standing behind the yellow line, called out excitedly.
Patrick looked up, glanced at Marigold, and nodded slightly.
Knowing her relationship with Marigold, Patrick was fairly polite.
"How is it inside?" Ellie asked.
Ernest: "Leave your contact information first. We'll call you."
Ernest and Marigold drove off first. On the road, Ernest said, "That Mr. Olteran we just saw doesn't really look like Teddy."
Marigold corrected him, "Teddy doesn't really look like Mr. Olteran."
Ernest nodded. "My mistake."
Marigold continued, "Maybe Teddy takes after his mother. Or maybe if Mr. Olteran gained weight, father and son would look alike?"
Ernest nodded again. "Right, like his mom. Now that you mention it, I remember—he does look like Mrs. Olteran."
Marigold was puzzled. "Captain, you've met Mrs. Olteran?"
Speaking of this, Ernest chatted, "More than met her—just like her son, we're old acquaintances. The station still has written apology letters from Mrs. Olteran. I could find them for you when we get back."
Marigold: "Huh?"
"Fighting and brawling, arrested more than once. Showing up at people's doors causing trouble—our educational talks never worked on her."
"Who?" Marigold wasn't quite sure.
Ernest: "The famous Mrs. Olteran, who else?"
