Chapter 747 Randall Does Not Understand Romance
Vera was taken aback and glanced at Susan twice. "Susan, what are you doing here?" Normally, Susan would be studying or looking for Randall, but today she was at Vera's house, waiting patiently despite not seeing Teddy.
"Randall dropped me off," Susan replied.
"Vera, when does Patrick get off work?" Susan asked.
Vera quickly texted Patrick, "Come home early, Susan's here. She might be looking for you."
Around seven, Patrick walked in, carrying the baby in one arm.
As soon as he entered, he spotted Susan sitting on the couch.
Patrick changed his shoes at the entrance while Teddy, curious, bent down to watch. Teddy lifted his foot, asking Patrick to take off his little shoes. "Daddy."
Patrick balanced Teddy with one hand and untied his shoelaces with the other, placing the tiny shoes on the top of the shoe rack. He then headed to the living room couch and handed Teddy to Vera, whom he hadn't seen all day.
Teddy, who never held grudges, had already forgotten about being scolded by Vera the day before. Seeing her now, he excitedly waved his little arms and lunged at her.
Patrick sat next to Vera. "How did Susan get here?"
"Randall dropped me off," Susan repeated.
Patrick nodded.
Vera stood up. "Alright, you two are back. Let's go eat."
At the restaurant, Susan wanted to sit with Teddy. She hadn't fed him rice cereal for several days, so she took it upon herself to feed him that evening. "Patrick, thanks."
Patrick, wearing a dark purple shirt, paused mid-bite. "What are you thanking me for?"
Susan, holding Teddy's spoon, looked at Patrick. "It's not me who's thanking you."
Patrick paused, thinking of something, but said nothing.
Susan didn't dare say more. Randall had instructed her to do just this, and she obediently followed through.
Vera's bright eyes darted between Patrick and Susan. She pulled her chair closer to Patrick. "Patrick."
Patrick looked at the food in front of him, cut a piece of meat, and handed it to Vera. "Eat."
Teddy also wanted to eat from Vera and Patrick's plates. When Susan tried to feed him again, he pushed her hand away and looked at Vera and Patrick, crying.
After dinner, the weather was pleasant. Susan stayed at the house, playing with Teddy for a while.
When Vera suggested that Susan stay the night, Susan got up to leave. "Vera, I'm heading out. I'll come back to see you and Teddy after studying."
Patrick came downstairs. "It's too late. Just stay here tonight. Tomorrow, you can study at home with Vera. Now it's just you two college students here."
Molly and Randall had finished their studies early when Vera gave birth and had started working. Only these two students needed support, along with little Teddy.
Susan looked conflicted. Vera noticed and tugged at Patrick. "If you want to leave, I won't stop you. Just let us know when you get home."
Susan nodded, grabbed her backpack, and ran out.
Not far from the house, Susan saw the headlights of a car in the dark and happily ran over.
"Randall, I did it!"
Randall looked at the excited Susan and smiled. "So happy, want a reward?"
"What kind of reward?" Susan asked, her curiosity piqued.
Randall thought for a moment. "How about a meal?"
Susan pouted. "I'm already stuffed. If I eat more, I'll have to go on a diet again."
Randall chuckled and started the car. As they drove away, his laughter filled the air. "Then how about a kiss?"
"Sure, sure," Susan agreed playfully.
Randall glanced at Susan in the passenger seat, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Susan, you're quite the cheeky one. Alright, if you want a kiss, I'll pull over and give you one."
Susan groaned. "Randall, you always ruin the mood."
Later, a black sedan was parked by the roadside for about five minutes. As they drove away, Randall's teasing voice could still be heard. "Every time you want a kiss, you get shy afterward. You get everything."
Susan's ears turned red. "Randall, I don't want to be with you anymore. You're so unromantic."
Randall replied, "Too late. Just come with me to wash the car. It's covered in dust from waiting for you."
Randall drove to a nearby car wash. He took the shy Susan for a walk in the bustling night market, eventually stopping at a barbecue stand. He pulled Susan to sit down. "I waited for you, so I haven't eaten. Join me for a bite."
Susan sat down, looking at the chaotic crowd around her. "Randall, if I knew you hadn't eaten, I would've come out sooner."
The barbecue stand was always messy, with kids running around between tables. There were plenty of fruit beers and other drinks on the tables. Despite the seemingly unhygienic environment, many well-dressed people were sitting together, enjoying the barbecue.
Randall ordered a lot of food from the menu and handed it to the waiter. He asked, "After you thanked him, what did Patrick say?"
Susan looked around, then turned back to Randall. "Patrick didn't say anything, but he's smart. He must've figured it out. Vera kept glancing at Patrick tonight. I think she guessed it was you."
"No need to guess. They're both sharp. You thanking him only represents your boyfriend."
Susan blushed at the sweet "boyfriend."
Randall said, "After the exams, I'll take you back to the Morales family and meet your parents. During the summer, you can travel with your friends from middle and high school. Before school starts, I'll pick you up."
Susan replied, "I'm not leaving."
"What are you staying here for?" Randall opened a bottle of Sprite and handed it to Susan.
Susan said, "To take care of Randall."
Randall replied, "Everyone wants to take care of me. When I was home, none of you did. Be good, go home. You have nothing to do here, and I don't have the money or time to take you out."
Susan stubbornly said, "I'm not leaving."
Soon, the barbecue was served.
Randall handed a few skewers to the waiter. "Pack these up."
Susan, holding her Sprite, asked, "Randall, why?"
"To take back for your grandpa. He's got a craving."
Since Randall and Susan started dating, their conversations often included "Patrick," "Molly," "your aunt," "your grandpa," and other "your" references, as if Susan was part of the Olteran family.
If their relationship were more formal, Randall might have started calling his parents "your dad" and "your mom" to Susan.
