Chapter 735 The Invisible Child
When Jack walked into the CEO's office, he noticed Randall's resume prominently displayed on the desk. Over the past few days, Jack had picked up on some of the situation.
"Hey, Mr. Olteran, need any help?" Jack asked.
Patrick's tone was icy, "No."
Jack pressed on, "But Randall's not in his field, and without any certifications, it's gonna be tough..."
"This is the path he chose," Patrick replied.
Jack couldn't quite grasp Patrick's thoughts. He cared, yet his attitude was so indifferent.
Patrick closed Randall's profile and turned back to his work.
Randall's resume wasn't locked, so various companies could see it and send him interview invitations, which his email automatically accepted.
Because of this, Patrick could easily find Randall's resume.
Randall received a lot of spam, and many reputable companies even called him, inviting him to interviews for jobs in his field.
Randall turned them all down. If he was going to work in his university major, leaving the Olteran Group would be pointless. The Olteran Group offered better training and even higher pay, so why leave?
"Thanks for the offer, but I'm looking for a job in network technology. I'm not planning to work in finance," Randall politely declined.
The HR representative persisted, "Mr. Olteran, please reconsider. Our company offers stipends for talent, and we provide free housing for outstanding employees. You've already earned your junior certification, and we would allocate housing for you as a top talent."
Randall politely refused again, "Sorry, my ideal job is in network technology."
After that, Randall locked his resume, so only he and the companies he applied to could view it.
After a busy afternoon, Patrick tried to access Randall's resume again but found it was no longer available.
Randall turned down several job offers and drove back to his hotel.
Once at the hotel, Randall went online to search for new opportunities.
Patrick returned home as night fell. Vera was on the couch, teaching Teddy to wave, "This is 'bye-bye.' When Daddy goes to work, you wave 'bye-bye,' okay?"
When Patrick came in, Teddy started waving at him.
Patrick smiled and picked Teddy up, "That's for when I leave. What do you say when I come back?"
Teddy opened his mouth and bit Patrick's face, drooling affectionately.
"Patrick, my exams are coming up. I'll be studying next week and taking exams the week after," Vera said.
Patrick nodded, "When you're studying, send the 'troublemaker' back to the Olteran family to stay with Dad. Focus on your studies and wean Teddy off breastfeeding."
Teddy, who was nibbling on Patrick, seemed to understand and frowned at the mention of weaning.
Patrick and Teddy locked eyes, "What? Did you understand that?"
Vera watched Teddy, sometimes he seemed to understand things.
"Dad!" Teddy suddenly said clearly, looking right at Patrick and calling out, "Dad, Daddy."
Patrick was stunned.
"Answer him quickly, or he won't say it again!" Vera urged, a bit envious.
Patrick immediately responded several times, "Yes, Daddy's here!"
Calling was one thing, weaning was another.
That evening, Patrick responded to Teddy's calls of "Daddy" several times, his heart melting. The once stern CEO was now showering Teddy with kisses.
But later, when Teddy was asleep, Patrick looked at him and said, "Next Monday, you're going back to stay with Grandpa."
Vera looked at Teddy and said, "Teddy's 'Dad' was wasted on you. Poor kid, having a dad like you who gives a sweet treat but doesn't follow through."
Patrick replied, "Him calling me 'Dad' is natural, not a bribe."
"And what about Teddy kissing you?" Vera asked.
"I kissed him back," Patrick said.
Vera was silent for a moment, then asked, "Do you ever feel like you and Randall are similar?"
Patrick had no response.
Mentioning Randall, Patrick's eyes softened. Looking at Teddy's sleeping face, he asked, "Has he found a job yet?"
"Who?" Vera asked, feigning ignorance.
Patrick glanced at her, "Randall."
"I don't know," Vera replied, then added, "I thought you wouldn't ask."
Patrick didn't respond.
Knowing Patrick wouldn't show concern for Randall, Vera called Randall the next day to check in on him.
That evening, when Patrick came home, Vera said, "He hasn't found a job yet. It's hard to find one in a different field without experience."
Patrick took Teddy, who was calling "Dad" again, to the bedroom.
Teddy had recently learned to say "Daddy" and wouldn't stop. When he was with Shawn, Shawn was envious, "He doesn't even call me Grandpa, just keeps calling you Dad. Go, let your Dad take care of you."
Shawn pushed Teddy to walk on his own.
Teddy stood between Shawn's legs, practicing standing, his little hands on Shawn's knees, looking up and smiling.
Drool started to flow, and Shawn wiped it away, muttering, "Just like your mom, always charming people. One smile and Grandpa can't bear to send you away."
Later, Shawn took Teddy to visit Randall at the hotel.
Sometimes Randall was out for interviews, so they waited in the lobby.
When Shawn heard Randall hadn't paid next month's rent, he went to pay it, but Randall stopped him, "I'm looking for a place. If anyone pays, they can stay."
Shawn put Teddy down to stand by the front desk while he talked to Randall.
Teddy couldn't walk yet, but at home, Patrick would have him practice standing by the couch.
So Shawn leaning him against the wall was routine.
Teddy looked up with his big eyes, watching Shawn and Randall argue, "Grandpa, listen, staying in a hotel is too much trouble. Once I get a job, I'll rent a place near the company. Please don't pay my rent, I have money in my account."
