Chapter 816 Molly's Good Husband

Sebastian stared at the large equipment in front of him, his expression serious.

Marigold glanced at him, "Seriously?"

Sebastian nodded slightly, "Hey, make a note. No one gets in here."

He had stepped out to contact his team at the station when he suddenly saw a call from Ellie.

He answered, "Hey, Mom, I'm kinda swamped right now. Can we chat when I get home?"

"Alright..."

Ellie heard the sirens on Sebastian's end, followed by the call ending. She put down her phone, feeling uneasy. Molly's sudden conversation with her tonight had left Ellie on edge. The excuse Molly gave didn't seem very convincing. Ellie felt it was necessary to give Sebastian a heads-up, but he was busy.

After Sebastian finished the call, it wasn't long before Sam arrived with his team.

Residents gathered to watch the commotion until late into the night, and it took the police a while to disperse the crowd.

The coroner, while removing his gloves, said, "Looks like a dog from a nearby house smelled something foul and dug up part of the body. That's how it was discovered."

The coroner looked at Marigold, puzzled, "Marigold, what brings you here tonight?"

"I'm on the night shift."

The coroner disinfected his hands and asked curiously, "Weren't you on the night shift last night, too?"

Marigold explained, "Oh, I swapped shifts with the captain last night."

Last night, Marigold knew Sebastian was also on the night shift, so she proactively approached Ernest to switch shifts to avoid any awkwardness.

Ernest didn't think much of it and agreed readily. So last night, the late-night snack Molly had ordered for Marigold ended up being eaten by Ernest.

The coroner said, "You really missed out. Molly ordered a special late-night snack for you guys last night. She even asked me about you. You weren't there, so the captain got to enjoy it. Molly really knows how to spend money; the food was delicious."

Sebastian turned to the coroner, "What did Molly ask you about last night?"

The coroner recounted the conversation to Sebastian, "She was trying to find out about Marigold's love life. I guess she thinks Marigold is pretty and wants to set her up with someone."

Marigold was speechless.

She looked at Sebastian's profile as he frowned.

Sebastian recalled Molly's unusual behavior last night, insisting that Marigold acknowledge the food was from her and getting upset when she didn't. Why was she so interested in Marigold?

The coroner was called away, leaving just the two of them by the car.

Marigold looked around and suddenly spoke, "You're still hiding things from Molly, aren't you?"

Sebastian thought Molly couldn't know, but her unusual behavior kept him wondering.

"Sebastian, you should go home and explain things to her. Women are perceptive. You think she doesn't know, but she keeps it all inside. She's been showing up frequently these days, and I've noticed her watching me closely. Normally, she wouldn't be so wary of me." Marigold, being a police academy graduate, had good investigative skills.

Sebastian thought about Molly's actions, including tonight, and frowned, "You only met her a few times back then. How could she know you?"

"I only met her a few times, too, but I remembered her. Maybe any woman who appears around you, Molly remembers instantly." Marigold continued, "Maybe she recognized me the first time we met. That day, she was holding Teddy, and I mistakenly thought he was her son. She looked very guarded when she saw me. The misunderstanding was never cleared up."

Marigold had been nervous and shocked at the time, seeing Molly holding the chubby Teddy. She instinctively thought he was Molly and Sebastian's child.

And then Teddy, at just the right moment, called her "Mom."

She had thought they had a child out of wedlock. But she prided herself on knowing Sebastian a bit; he wasn't the type to be irresponsible and let a woman get pregnant before marriage.

At the station, Marigold asked around and found out it was a misunderstanding. "The child Marigold mentioned is Mr. Olteran's, right? Only Mr. Olteran's kid would be carried around by Molly, and Mr. Chase is crazy about him," the coroner said.

Ernest added, "Oh, I remember now, that's Teddy. He's been to the station twice since he was born."

Others laughed about it during their chat. Only Marigold felt awkward, realizing it late.

"Last time, four grown men were brought to the station by a crying baby. I later checked, and those four men were Mr. Olteran's friends, all with some social standing. One of them is a big shot from Marigold's hometown. Marigold, have you heard of Scott?"

Marigold was shocked, "Who did you say?"

Sebastian didn't come home all night. When he returned to the station, Sam was driving him. Thinking about what the coroner and Marigold had said, Sebastian considered for a while and finally took out his phone to send Molly a message, "I'm with Sam, don't worry."

After sending the message, Sebastian opened the selfie mode on his phone, took a picture of himself and Sam, and sent it to Molly to reassure her.

Sam asked curiously, "Mr. Chase, are you cheating?"

Sebastian replied, "Get out."

"No, listen to me. This is exactly what a guilty man would do. When Holly doesn't let me go out to play games with friends, I sneak out and take a picture in front of the station, saying I'm working. And lately, Molly's been showing up at the station a lot. Are you really cheating?"

Sebastian said, "If solving cases were as simple as your methods, we'd have a mountain of wrongful convictions."

"That's why I have you to correct me," Sam said cheekily.

Sebastian opened the window and looked outside.

At home, Molly had thought she could stay up all night waiting for him. But the next morning, Ellie walked over and pinched her cheek, "Molly, why didn't you go to bed?"

Molly, half-asleep, swatted Ellie's hand away and pulled the blanket over her head to continue sleeping.

The blanket was one Max had brought out early in the morning when he saw Molly sleeping. He quickly went back to get his thin blanket and covered her before going out for his walk.

Ellie pinched Molly's cheek again. Finally, Molly, still with her eyes closed, pushed Ellie's hand away, "Mom, I need to sleep."

Ellie gave up. Timothy suggested, "Call Sebastian. You won't be able to wake her up."

Ellie took out her phone and called Sebastian, "Molly's going to be late for work. She's sleeping on the couch and won't wake up. You need to think of a way to get her up."

Sebastian was silent for a moment, "Mom, pinch her nose so she can't breathe. That'll wake her up."
