Chapter 764 Concerned Phone Call
Mothers and daughters argue, but one moment they're fighting, the next they're fine. Ellie soon joined Molly in the dining room, straightening Molly's pajamas. Molly noticed and immediately sat up, adjusting her clothes.
"Has their plane landed yet?"
"Not yet. It should be by noon. I checked the time over there; it'll be midnight when they land."
On the plane.
Teddy had gotten used to flying.
Patrick and Vera were eating, and Teddy was reaching out with his little hands to grab at their food. He wouldn't drink his formula, but for some reason, Patrick's bottled water seemed irresistible, and he had to have a sip.
Vera was watching a show, munching on some unknown cookies. Teddy couldn't understand the show, but he could see Vera's mouth constantly chewing.
Patrick held Teddy, occasionally getting up to walk around.
Many passengers were interested in the baby and wanted to hold him. But as soon as strangers approached, Teddy started crying before they could even touch him.
The sky outside wasn't as beautiful as yesterday; pitch black. Teddy climbed to the window and started licking the glass.
Vera quickly pulled him into her arms. "Little rascal."
Around midnight in a foreign country, the family of three landed. As soon as Vera's phone turned on, she answered a call. "Mom and Dad, don't worry. We've landed and are heading to the exit."
Vera smiled at Patrick's back, "Dad, you might not trust me abroad, but you should trust your son-in-law. If I'm unreliable, he can be counted on. Teddy's in his arms, so don't worry. Teddy's too busy being curious about the foreigners to talk to you."
After hanging up with her parents, Vera called Cindy. "Just left the airport. Teddy's too busy looking around to talk. Tell Dad not to worry. Even if I get lost, I won't lose his grandson."
Before hanging up, Vera said, "Cindy, I have to go. Molly's calling."
Vera answered Molly's call, reporting immediately, "Just landed, heading to the hotel. Teddy's too busy to talk."
Molly didn't bother asking questions and hung up.
Finally, Susan's video call came through. "Aunt Vera, is anyone fighting over Teddy? Randall said our calls wouldn't get through, so he told me to wait five minutes and call via video."
Vera pointed the camera at Teddy's face. "Susan."
Randall was beside her.
At the airport entrance, Patrick appeared, and someone greeted him. "Mr. Olteran, hello."
He let go of the luggage, and soon Vera joined him. Patrick opened the car door for Vera, and the greeters said in unison, "Mrs. Olteran, hello."
Vera looked at the scene, "Why do I suddenly feel old being called that?"
After a brief video call, they headed to the hotel.
Teddy clung to the window, sitting on Patrick's lap, watching the unfamiliar street scenes.
Teddy looked out the left window, and Vera out the right.
Vera held her phone, almost recording the entire journey.
Even though it was late at night and the scenery was barely visible, knowing this country was where Noah had lived for years made Vera feel a sense of familiarity. But seeing the unfamiliar buildings and faces, so different from home, she felt a pang of sympathy for Noah. At fifteen or sixteen, still a child, he came here alone to study. He must have missed home terribly.
Teddy was fascinated by the new world, while Vera thought about the places Noah might have walked.
Mother and son, each lost in their thoughts.
At the hotel, Vera held Teddy while Patrick got the room key and accompanied them to the elevator.
In the spacious suite, Vera handed Teddy to Patrick and flopped onto the bed. "So comfortable. I can finally roll around and sleep."
After they all freshened up, Patrick asked, "Do you know Noah's class schedule?"
"No, I asked him for it, but he said I wouldn't understand it, so he didn't give it to me," Vera replied, feeling a bit dismissed by Noah.
Vera held the soft Teddy and called Noah via video in the middle of the night.
Noah, half-asleep, saw the caller and was annoyed but answered anyway. "What are you doing, calling me in the middle of the night? Trying to scare me? I just finished my paper and went to bed at midnight."
Vera turned the camera to Teddy.
Noah's expression changed instantly. "Teddy! Why aren't you taking a nap?"
Teddy's face filled the screen.
Vera said, "Remember Teddy's face. Don't forget what he looks like after a few months."
Noah replied, "I might forget you, but I'll never forget Teddy."
Vera casually asked, "Where's your class tomorrow? What time do you finish?"
"Why?"
Vera fibbed, "To schedule a video call with Teddy."
Noah quickly gave a time, "I have a lab class tomorrow morning, done by ten. Let's video call at ten-thirty, so you don't have to stay up late."
Vera got the time and let them chat for a bit before ending the call.
She cuddled Teddy and went to sleep.
Noah also went back to sleep.
The next day, around ten, the family of three arrived at Noah's university.
Vera held Teddy and took a photo at the university entrance. They wandered around campus, looking for the lab.
Noah emerged from the building, holding a cup of coffee, walking with a group, conversing in a foreign language. He had been trained by his parents from a young age and was recognized by Patrick as a little prodigy. He wasn't fluent in eight languages, but he knew four and occasionally studied new ones.
"Jevin, Ansa, I can't join the discussion club today. I promised my sister a video call. I stayed up last night to finish our group's project and sent it to the group. If anyone has questions, we'll meet this afternoon to revise," Noah said, always serious and convincing.
Vera spotted Noah among the students. "Patrick, is that Noah?"
Noah's distinct features made him easy to recognize among the foreign students.
Noah, tired from the night, took a sip of his strong coffee.
As he tilted his head back, Noah froze in place!
