Chapter 820 The Current Molly
In the evening, Molly waited at home until eight o'clock before Sebastian finally returned.
Ellie was waiting at the door. "Hey, come here, I need to ask you something."
"Mom, let me go check on Molly first."
"It's about her. Come with me."
Ellie pulled Sebastian aside and asked, "Have you been getting close to a female colleague recently? Molly asked me some weird questions last night, and today she took the day off to come home and sleep. I'm telling you, something's off."
Sebastian glanced upstairs. "Got it, I'm going up."
Ellie hadn't finished speaking when Sebastian turned and headed upstairs.
In the bedroom, Molly had just come out of the bathroom after a shower. She glanced at Sebastian. "You're back?"
"Yeah, I'm back."
He closed the door and followed Molly into the walk-in closet.
He handed her the black, sexy nightgown she bought yesterday. "Wear this."
Molly glanced at it, angrily tossed it into the back of the closet, and started looking for another nightgown.
Sebastian took a deep breath, leaning against Molly's jewelry cabinet, watching her sulk. "When did you find out?"
"Find out what?"
Sebastian slightly unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his chest. Molly glanced at it and turned her face away.
"About me and Marigold."
Molly was speechless.
Sebastian asked again, "Did you recognize her the first time we met?"
Molly, wrapped in a towel, continued to pick out her nightgown.
"How did you know something even Sam didn't know?"
"I figured it out," Molly replied.
"When?"
"When you were in college, I figured it out when I visited you."
This time, Sebastian didn't know what to say.
Marigold was right; women can figure things out on their own.
"During college, we did date for a couple of months. It was pure and simple, and it still is now.
After the last meeting, when I saw her, I hesitated about whether to tell you. I went to find you, but suddenly felt impulsive, so I didn't say anything and just left after seeing you."
Molly remembered that day. Sebastian did come to find her, and he seemed to have something to say, but didn't.
Sebastian explained, "Later, I didn't tell you because I thought she would leave soon, and it wasn't worth affecting your mood over this. Plus, you were busy with new products at that time, so I decided not to tell you. I didn't expect her to transfer here voluntarily."
He looked at Molly's back, the water droplets on her shoulders already dry. "I didn't help her, and she didn't come because of me. After we broke up in college, we never contacted each other again, even deleted all contact information. Since then, it's always been just you by my side.
We only have a simple work and colleague relationship.
Until last night, I thought you didn't know. And our marriage is stable. Suddenly telling you that my ex-girlfriend is back, I didn't know why, but I couldn't say it. It felt like saying it would hurt you more, as if I intended to get back with her."
Sebastian had imagined many ways to tell Molly without making her angry.
He thought about many scenarios. He considered telling her during a candlelit dinner, during a date; he thought about telling her after making love, when her mind was hazy; he thought about sitting down and telling her seriously.
If he said it with guilt, Molly might think he betrayed their marriage. If he said it without guilt, it seemed like he didn't care about Molly.
No matter how he said it, it would hurt Molly. It felt like forcing Molly to accept that he and Marigold were together before, and they might interact in the future. Even if they did, Molly would have to accept it.
He never knew how to say it or the best way to say it.
Molly looked down, her fingers playing with the strap of her nightgown. "Why are you telling me now?"
"Because you already know everything and kept it to yourself. Last night, Marigold told me you've been privately asking about her in the team recently. And the night before, you deliberately ordered takeout for her, emphasizing your identity.
But the night before, Marigold avoided me to prevent misunderstandings, so she swapped shifts with Ernest that afternoon. So, it was actually Ernest on duty that night."
Molly remembered that night. She ordered a late-night snack, and when Sebastian asked the team, the reply was from Sean Collins and Ernest. But Makayla clearly told her it was Marigold and Sean on duty. She was puzzled then, not hearing Marigold's voice, and now she understood why.
"Ernest was scheduled for the night shift last night, and Marigold took over. Last night, she received a report and discovered a case that required my personal verification. Sam and the others hadn't encountered it before, so that's why I had to go, no matter what."
Molly looked down. "I know you were busy with the case."
So she didn't irrationally try to stop him.
Sebastian walked to Molly's side, picked out a nightgown for her, and handed it to her. "I always thought if you knew I had an ex, you'd be angry, throw things, argue with me, sleep in separate rooms, or even talk about divorce. This time, I guessed wrong."
Molly would secretly keep things to herself, then go back to the team to investigate "the enemy," even silently demonstrating, though the demonstration failed.
Last night, she even tried to please him... No, Molly wasn't the type to please others!
"Molly, last night you weren't trying to please me, asking me to give you a chance, leaving your life, or..."
Sebastian didn't finish his sentence when Molly immediately looked up, showing her rightful wife's demeanor. "Sebastian, why did you date her back then? You promised her you loved each other, and I don't believe your relationship was pure. If you don't explain clearly today, we're not done."
Sebastian explained, "Because I suddenly realized I liked someone I shouldn't. And Marigold was pursuing me at the time, so I agreed to date her to change my state of mind.
Later, we broke up because I realized I had no feelings for Marigold. My heart was always with the girl I loved the most, even if we couldn't be together in the future. At least I couldn't waste Marigold's time, so I initiated the breakup."
Molly was even angrier now than before, knowing Sebastian had an ex didn't make her this mad. "Sebastian! You played quite the game. One Marigold wasn't enough; you had a crush on someone else? You liked someone with no result, and you still agreed to someone else's pursuit? How could you be so awful?"
Sebastian's gaze towards Molly grew intense. "Because back then, the girl I had a crush on, the girl I couldn't be with, was you, Molly."
