Chapter 746 Randall Knows
Teddy leaned in, aiming to kiss Patrick.
"Kissing me won't change anything. Dad's got no say in this. Until your mom finishes her review, we can't go back to the bedroom."
Later, bored out of his mind, Patrick started a video call with his friends.
Joshua, seeing Teddy all over Patrick in the video, looked envious. "Hey, Mr. Olteran, remember our deal? I help you out, and I get to hang with Teddy for a couple of days. When can you send him over?"
Patrick, with Teddy perched on his lap, asked his friend, "Is everything set?"
Joshua sent a link, "All set. Randall will definitely show up. This is tailor-made for him."
Late at night, in a hotel, Randall stared at a job posting on his phone from "CloudBridge Network Technology," lost in thought.
The job had no experience requirements, no specific qualifications needed, and no non-compete clause that would prevent him from working in the industry for years after leaving.
When he met with his old friends, he knew that if he posted his job search in the group, many would compete to hire him with high salaries. But Randall didn't post because of a clause that restricted him from working in the industry for three years after leaving a job.
Knowing this, Randall decided not to join any company with such a clause.
Now, seeing a company that fit his needs perfectly, Randall picked up the phone to call them.
Meanwhile, in a cozy study room, Joshua watched Teddy trying to kiss Patrick again. "Mr. Olteran, did you put honey on your face? Why does Teddy keep kissing you?"
Patrick turned his face away to avoid Teddy's kisses. "I was feeling down a while ago, and Vera taught him to kiss me to cheer me up. Now it's a habit; he kisses me whenever he's bored."
Patrick wiped Teddy's mouth and then his own face with a tissue. "Teddy, stop kissing. Look, this is your godfather Joshua."
Teddy turned to the screen, looking confused, not recognizing who it was.
"Teddy, can you talk yet?"
Patrick replied, "He just learned to say 'Dad,' but he can't say 'Mom' yet."
Teddy crawled onto Patrick's desk, getting close to the screen. Joshua kept taking screenshots. "Teddy, come over to my place. I'll take you out to play."
Patrick held Teddy and asked, "Do you want to go? Since Vera kicked you out, should I send you to Joshua?"
"Kicked out?" Joshua was curious. "Did she kick you out too?"
Later, they joined a group call. When Scott heard that Joshua had exclusive playtime with Teddy, he was immediately upset. "Mr. Olteran, that's not fair. If you had told me, I would have bought a tech company and created a job for Randall. Couldn't I have Teddy for a couple of days?"
Owen chimed in, "As if money is an issue. I'll buy a tech company for Randall too. Mr. Olteran, can I have Teddy then?"
Ian scoffed, "You guys are pathetic. Patrick just has a Teddy, and you have to fight over him online. I don't compete online; I'll go to his house tomorrow and take him."
Patrick looked at Teddy's cute little face.
He had to admit, as a dad, he found Teddy adorable.
At ten, the study door opened, and Vera called for Patrick and Teddy, "Time for bed."
Patrick told the video call, "Gotta go, Vera's calling us."
The four friends sighed, "Mr. Olteran, you're whipped. Whatever your wife says goes."
Back in the bedroom, Teddy couldn't find Vera's small desk and was grumpy. When Vera tucked him into bed, he was uncooperative and got a stern talking-to before he finally settled down and fell asleep.
After an incident of tearing up books, Patrick took Teddy to the office the next day.
So, from Patrick's office chair, there were occasional noises. "Theodore, why are you messing with Dad's chair again?"
Teddy, sitting on his lap, tried to grab the computer, or when placed on the sofa, would roll off. If put in a playpen, he would cry if unsatisfied.
Patrick realized something: Teddy was at the age where he was a handful.
At the hotel, Susan went to the school library in the morning and then to find Randall in the afternoon. "Randall, did you see the job posting from CloudBridge Network Technology?"
Susan cautiously brought up the job, worried that Randall might get upset and blame her for meddling.
After all, men have their pride, and Randall had been jobless for a while, which might make him irritable.
Susan's mind was filled with TV dramas where proud men, unable to handle setbacks, became irritable, turned to drinking and smoking, and ended up as failures.
But Randall, sitting on the bed with his arm around Susan's shoulder, took her phone and looked at it calmly. "Susan, we're not going for this job."
Susan was puzzled and asked softly, "Why not, Randall? This seems like the best job out there."
Randall explained, "This company is an investment firm under Patrick's friend, the Smith Group."
Susan tilted her head, then looked at the phone screen, thinking it over. "I get it. You think Patrick's friend is giving you a backdoor entry?"
Randall replied, "It's not a suspicion; it's a certainty."
He had called to inquire, and they asked for his name to register his information. Randall made up a name, "I'm Robert."
The person on the other end asked a few perfunctory questions and then told him he wasn't suitable for the position.
Randall continued, "For a position with such open requirements, there's no way they'd leave the opportunity for me. People in our group with seven years of experience got rejected. Even top graduates from prestigious universities were turned down. And when you go for job interviews, you'll find that interviewers don't care about your name. But I hope you never have to go through interviews."
Susan looked up at Randall, "Randall, what should we do then?"
Randall thought for a moment, "Tonight, I'll take you to Cherry Villa for dinner. You can meet Patrick and pass on a message for me."
In the evening, Randall dropped Susan off at Cherry Villa.
Only Vera was home. "Where's Teddy?" Susan asked as she entered.
Vera replied, "He went to the office with Patrick. He tore up my books yesterday, and Patrick was afraid I'd scold him if he stayed home, so he took him to the office."
Susan sat on the sofa, waiting for Teddy to come home.
