Chapter 719 Driving Away

Patrick refused to take Teddy, so Vera had to hold him herself, gently patting his back and soothing him, "Don't cry, Teddy. Mommy's here."

Shawn's face was grim, and the lively atmosphere in the dining room vanished instantly. Susan had just torn away the cheerful facade, revealing Randall's true feelings.

The living room fell silent, and Teddy gradually calmed down in Vera's arms.

Everyone was waiting for Randall to speak.

Susan shook Randall's hand, "Randall, say something."

Randall didn't dare to meet Patrick's eyes, who was glaring at him with a cold, piercing stare.

"Speak!" Patrick's furious voice boomed as he slammed the table, causing the dishes to rattle. Teddy, who had just been comforted, was startled and began to cry loudly again, his wails echoing through the dining room.

Seeing Patrick's barely contained rage, everyone present was too scared to speak.

Vera hurriedly tried to soothe Teddy again, holding him tightly to give him a sense of security.

"I don't like business. I like computers. I want to work in network technology. I want to switch fields and go to grad school. I don't want to take over the family business." Randall held Susan's hand, looking up for the first time, fearfully but resolutely meeting Patrick's gaze, and voiced his true thoughts in front of the whole family.

Shawn's face remained stern. "What were you doing all this time?"

Randall faced Patrick. "I'm sorry."

Cindy's eyes reddened. "Randall, if you didn't like this job, why didn't you say so earlier? The internet isn't real; it's virtual."

Randall couldn't explain it to his family right now, "Uncle, I'll still do my job well."

Patrick retorted, "I don't need an employee like you."

Vera thought Patrick had agreed to let Randall pursue his own career, but then Patrick pointed at Randall, "I don't need a nephew like you either!"

Susan pouted, "Patrick, Randall didn't..."

"Let him speak to me," Patrick snapped at Susan.

Susan was so frightened she pursed her lips, not daring to argue. She suddenly understood why Randall had always been afraid to oppose Patrick. It was truly terrifying.

Vera quickly freed one hand to grab Patrick's arm, "Patrick, calm down. Maybe we should listen to—"

Patrick shook off Vera's hand, giving her a fierce look without saying a word.

Vera was also scared by Patrick's gaze.

Seeing Susan being yelled at, Randall's blood boiled, "Uncle Patrick, you're still young. You have your son. When Teddy grows up, he should be the one to inherit, not me. The Olteran Group is yours.

I don't like business, investments, projects, meetings, all the endless paperwork. I really don't like it."

Patrick looked at Randall, who dared to confront him for the first time despite his fear.

"I want to work in cybersecurity. From the first time you taught me to use a computer, I fell in love with it. When I was fifteen, your company lost some files, and I wanted to help you find them. I searched all night but couldn't find them. Later, you said they were stolen by hackers. That was the first time I desperately wanted to help you.

When I finally had the ability to help you, you still wanted me to follow the path you laid out for me. You thought the path I wanted to take was too difficult and didn't approve of it.

Why can't you believe in my abilities?"

Patrick pointed towards the door, "Believe in your abilities? If you're so capable, then get out. From now on, don't rely on anything the family provides. Go do what you want. Let's see how you manage!"

Susan stood up, "Patrick, don't make Randall leave. It was me who said it."

"Fine," Randall agreed without hesitation.

The once lively atmosphere had now plummeted to freezing point.

Randall let go of Susan's wrist, truly preparing to leave.

Molly and Sebastian immediately went over to stop Randall. Sebastian said, "I know a bit about cybersecurity. Calm down. If you really like it, we can try switching fields."

Molly added, "Yeah, Randall, don't be impulsive."

Patrick stood up, "Everyone move aside. Let him leave. Without the Olteran family name, let's see what he can do."

Vera, holding Teddy with one arm, stood up and blocked Patrick. She struggled to hold onto Patrick with one hand, "Patrick, hold Teddy. Calm down."

Randall changed direction and walked out.

"Randall!" Vincent, who had been silent, finally spoke.

Randall paused for a moment, then continued to stride out the door.

"Randall," Susan cried out, her voice breaking.

She ran after Randall.

Vera, without a word, handed the crying Teddy to Patrick and turned to chase after Randall.

In the front yard, Randall started his car and drove off.

Susan chased after him, crying and shouting, "Randall, wait for me."

No matter how hard she tried, Susan couldn't catch up to Randall's car. As he drove out of the Olteran Manor gates, Randall saw Susan still chasing him in the rearview mirror. He wiped his reddened eyes.

Finally, he softened and slammed on the brakes.

When he got out of the car, Susan, sobbing uncontrollably, threw herself into his arms. "Randall, don't go. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I just... I don't want you to do something you hate."

Susan regretted her impulsiveness at the dinner table. She had caused Randall to be kicked out, making everyone sad. She felt like the culprit.

"Randall, I didn't mean to say it, but I saw how unhappy you were pretending to be happy. It broke my heart. I don't want you to fake happiness. I want you to be truly happy. I'm sorry, Randall, I..."

Randall lifted Susan's chin and kissed her without a word.

Susan stood there, stunned, unable to react.

Her tear-filled eyes widened in shock, feeling the warmth of his lips. Randall kissed her.

Vera and Molly had just come out, ready to chase after Susan. Vera, a step ahead, saw the two embracing and kissing under the moonlight. She quickly stopped and pulled Molly back from interrupting them.

Vera and Molly hid by the door, peeking out at the kissing couple.

Randall tasted the tears on Susan's face.

It was his first kiss, and he hadn't expected it to be under such circumstances. Randall slowly pulled away from the stunned Susan, her tear-streaked face looking up at him, "Randall."
