Chapter 108 Who Is the Masked Man?
Hugo, Justin, and Paul didn't think twice and left school after being reminded a bunch of times.
The little girls in kindergarten were relentless, always bugging them.
Every day after school, they'd remind the three kids over and over to go home and tell their parents to have a son, nine of them!
Hugo, Justin, and Paul would always nod like crazy just to get through it.
The teacher, following Freya's orders, only left after dropping Hugo, Justin, and Paul at home.
As soon as the teacher left, Hugo said, "Good thing Mom's not home today. Justin, come with me to grab something after it gets dark."
"What is it?" Justin asked, curious.
Hugo squinted and said, "Something that'll make Frederick divorce Mom for sure!"
"Really?" Justin said, wide-eyed.
"Yeah!" Hugo replied.
Paul, curious, asked, "What is it?"
"You'll see when we get it," Hugo said. "Paul, you stay home while Justin and I go out. Don't go outside, and don't open the door for strangers. Call me if anything happens. We're not going far, just nearby."
"Okay, I'll wait for you at home," Paul said obediently.
"Good boy, Paul."
After it got dark, Hugo and Justin headed out.
They didn't take Paul because they were worried about his safety. They were going to get something valuable and didn't know if Nicholas would pull any tricks.
Hugo and Justin wore masks and baseball caps as they walked to the nearby neighborhood park.
Hugo had told Nicholas to leave the item here.
Since it was winter and getting dark, the park was pretty empty.
The further they went, the fewer people there were.
As they walked, Justin leaned over to Hugo's ear and said, "Hugo, someone's following us."
Hugo frowned, asking, "How many?"
"One."
Hugo didn't say anything. He'd been watching the surveillance since he asked Nicholas to leave the item here.
He was sure no one had found the item, and he only brought Justin over after Nicholas's people had left.
So who was following them now?
"But don't worry, with me here, no one can hurt us," Justin said confidently.
Hugo whispered, "Don't alert him yet; he might just be some random guy walking in the park."
"Okay," Justin replied.
Justin and Hugo didn't go straight to get the item but wandered around the park a few times.
The person behind them kept following.
It was unclear whether he was following them or just wandering around.
Justin couldn't wait any longer and whispered to Hugo, "Hugo, I'll go check him out."
"Okay, be careful!"
They couldn't keep going like this, so it was better to let Justin check him out, Hugo thought.
But as soon as Justin turned around and greeted him, the person suddenly darted into the bushes.
That was definitely suspicious!
Justin quickly chased after him with agility.
Seeing this, Hugo hurried to follow.
Although he wasn't as skilled as Justin, he had learned a lot of self-defense techniques abroad.
Hugo and Justin quickly caught up with the person, effortlessly, as he stopped after a few steps, seemingly waiting for the two brothers.
Hugo and Justin stopped a few meters away, and Justin asked, "Why are you following us? Why did you run? And why did you stop running?"
The person slowly turned around.
Hugo and Justin's hearts skipped a beat when they saw him!
The person was wearing a terrifying mask, but luckily, they weren't as scared as other kids their age, or they would've been crying.
He laughed, and the sound was terrifying, clearly using a voice changer.
Justin frowned and snapped, "Cut the act! Talk!"
The robed figure slowly raised an arm and pointed beside them, chanting, "Kill! Kill! Kill!"
Hugo and Justin quickly looked where he pointed and saw someone lying not far away.
The person seemed unconscious, not moving at all.
And the spot where the person lay was exactly where Hugo was supposed to get the item!
Hugo frowned and boldly walked over. While checking on the person, he smoothly grabbed the item.
The masked figure just chuckled as Hugo moved the unconscious body.
"She's just out cold," Hugo said, returning to Justin's side.
It was too dark to see her face clearly, but Hugo could tell it was a woman.
"Kill! Kill! Kill!" the masked figure chanted, suddenly pulling out a pad to show them a video.
It was a video of Isabella almost getting hit by a car!
Hugo and Justin's breathing synced up, and their expressions changed instantly.
"What's going on? That's Mom!" Justin was already freaking out.
"Don't panic!" Hugo tried to stay calm and quickly checked his smartwatch.
He soon found out the whole story of Anna hiring someone to hit Isabella with a car.
"Is that Anna?"
The masked figure nodded, "Kill her! Avenge! Avenge!"
Justin gritted his teeth, "She's the one who tried to kill Mom?!"
Hugo tapped a few more times on his smartwatch, "Mom's safe now, don't worry."
Justin clenched his fists and rushed towards Anna, but Hugo grabbed him, "What are you doing?"
"She tried to kill Mom! I'm gonna beat her to death!" Justin said.
"Don't be rash!" Hugo scolded and looked up at the masked figure.
With the mask on, Hugo couldn't see his expression.
Hugo thought for a moment, then picked up his smartwatch and called the police right in front of the masked figure.
The masked figure tilted his head, seemingly confused by Hugo's actions.
It wasn't until they heard the sirens that the masked figure turned and ran, quickly disappearing from sight.
Hugo frowned as he watched him leave and pulled Justin to hide behind the bushes.
When they saw the police arrive, Hugo quietly left with Justin.
As soon as they left the park, Justin anxiously asked, "Hugo! What's going on?!"
"I'm not entirely sure, but I know Mom's safe now. Let's go home first! Don't tell Paul or Mom about this; they'll freak out," Hugo responded calmly.
"Aren't we going to find Mom now?" Justin questioned.
"Freya's with Mom. Let's go home and figure out what happened tonight! I need to find out who that masked person is!" Hugo answered.
He placed this video on the item, which didn't seem like a coincidence. It was more like he knew about the deal between him and Nicholas!
But he didn't take the item, even though it was super valuable and anyone who saw it would want it.
Could it be that the masked person didn't know about the deal and placing this video there was just a coincidence?
But the masked person definitely knew that he and Justin weren't ordinary kids. Tonight, he was trying to provoke them into killing!
Who would provoke two kids into killing?
So the masked person must know about their abilities!
But he and Justin had always hidden their abilities well. No one knew except their benefactor abroad.
Who exactly was the masked person?
Hugo felt that this person was very dangerous and was very uneasy!
He needed to find this person quickly!
