Chapter 70 Eric, Your Prejudice Is a Bit Too Much
Daniel sighed, "I didn't expect Laura to be so hostile towards Eleanor. Now even Eleanor's friends don't like her."
"If you want to help Laura, find her close friends at Teronica. They'd be better at talking to her than me."
"I tried that, but Laura refused. She's scared of being judged and doesn't want her classmates to know about her pregnancy and miscarriage."
"Then get her family involved. Keeping it a secret won't help. Laura's showing signs of being suicidal. If something happens, how will you explain it to her family?"
Daniel nodded. "I'll talk to my aunt soon."
He looked at Isabella with an apologetic expression. "I'm really sorry for dragging you into this."
Isabella was still mad about what Laura said about Eleanor. If Laura were in better shape, she would've confronted her.
"I'm fine. I couldn't help anyway. Take care of her. I'm leaving."
Isabella stood up, and Daniel quickly followed, saying. "You haven't had breakfast, right? The food I bought is cold. Let me take you out."
"No need, stay with Laura. I'm not hungry."
"At least let me walk you downstairs. The doctor gave Laura a sedative; she won't wake up soon."
Seeing his insistence, Isabella agreed.
They went downstairs, and Daniel kept apologizing. Isabella was annoyed but not at him—at Laura. So she didn't complain.
Not wanting to talk about Laura, she asked, "When will Eleanor be back?"
Daniel shrugged. "Not sure. She said it could be a year or even two or three."
"Wow, that's long!"
"Eleanor's very dedicated to her career. She's always been committed to her acting."
"Can't you ask her agent? Even with a confidentiality agreement, as her husband, you should be able to show concern."
Daniel thought for a moment. "I tried but couldn't reach them. I'll find another way. Once I know, I'll tell you."
"Okay."
Daniel then asked gently, "Did you finalize your divorce?"
Isabella shook her head. "I can't find him."
Daniel frowned. "Is he avoiding you?"
Isabella hesitated. Frederick didn't want a divorce because he liked men and was using her as a cover. But she couldn't tell Daniel that. "He's too busy with work."
Daniel shook his head. "No one's too busy for a divorce. Or does he still have feelings for you?"
"That's impossible. You know how he treats me."
Daniel knew. His accusation of infidelity had ruined Isabella.
"Maybe you should tell me who he is. I'll talk to him."
Since leaving the guesthouse, he'd tried to find out about Isabella's husband but found nothing.
Isabella shook her head. "No need, I'll handle it."
Daniel's eyes flashed with curiosity, but he changed the topic. "So, what's next for you?"
"I haven't decided. I'll take it one step at a time. I won't leave Teronica before the divorce."
She came back to get a divorce and register the kids. She wasn't giving up halfway. Without the divorce, she couldn't register the kids, and without that, they couldn't do anything—school, health insurance, all of it required registration.
"Alright, if you run into any problems, just let me know. I'm not a big shot, but I've been in Teronica long enough to help out. Don't be shy. Besides being classmates, with your connection to Eleanor, I can't just ignore it. Eleanor would give me hell if I didn't."
Isabella smiled politely. "Okay."
Coincidentally, Frederick saw this smile. After comforting Dennis, he called John over and was heading to work, passing by the hospital entrance. The traffic light ahead was red, with over 40 seconds left. Frederick looked through the car window at Isabella and Daniel chatting and laughing and snorted.
Elliot, in the driver's seat, followed Frederick's gaze. "Why is Ms. Beniere at the hospital again?"
Frederick sneered. "Can't you see she's meeting someone? Didn't they say she and Daniel are just friends?"
"The investigation showed Daniel is Ms. Beniere's senior and the Rogers family's son-in-law. His wife, Eleanor, is Ms. Beniere's best friend, so Daniel and Ms. Beniere get along well."
"Such a good best friend," Frederick said sarcastically, implying Isabella was involved with Daniel behind Eleanor's back.
Elliot didn't sense any ambiguity. "They're just friends. Meeting privately isn't a big deal. If Ms. Rogers were in Teronica, it would probably be the three of them together."
Frederick retorted, "Some people are shameless to the core; they never change."
Elliot was puzzled. "Eric, do you have a bias against Ms. Beniere? You seem very hostile towards her. Is it because she kissed you?"
Mentioning it made Frederick furious, feeling violated. Elliot continued, "Ms. Beniere kissing you isn't a loss. You're a man, and she's a woman."
Frederick grabbed a newspaper and threw it at Elliot's head. "Are you having too much fun lately? Want to go to the border town?"
Elliot's back went cold. "Just consider what I said nonsense. I didn't say anything."
Who wanted to go to the border town, facing a bunch of rocks every day? Those who went came back tanned and had trouble finding a wife.
Frederick glared at Elliot and looked back at Isabella, but she was no longer at the entrance. "Keep an eye on her!"
"Okay. By the way, I heard Ms. Beniere suggested buying a cat for Albert yesterday. Mrs. Perry did, and Albert was very happy. Should we get a cat for Dennis to cheer him up?"
"Dennis doesn't like cats!"
"Dennis doesn't seem to like Ms. Beniere either."
Frederick frowned. Seeing how much Albert liked Isabella, he thought Dennis would too.
Elliot awkwardly said, "You made Ms. Beniere cry today. Will she still be willing to take care of Dennis?"
Frederick was displeased. "Whether she's willing or not doesn't matter. It's not up to her!"
Elliot changed his question. "Should Ms. Beniere still come to the house tomorrow?"
Frederick didn't answer immediately. He hadn't decided yet.
