Chapter 200 Compensation Does Not Equal Love!
He had a hard time convincing Isabella to give him a chance, and look at the stupid things he's doing now!
Dennis immediately asked, "Daddy, do you want to stay single forever?"
"No."
Dennis angrily said, "I think you do! If you keep treating Mommy like this, you're done for. You'll never get out of being single in this lifetime!"
Then he continued, "Whether she's my mommy or not, your attitude is just wrong! Have you thought about it? If she really is my mommy, and you keep scaring and upsetting her like this, do you think she'll like you or want to be with you?
She already has issues with you because of what happened six years ago. Instead of trying to get her to forgive you, you're being so tough. Are you trying to win her back or scare her away?"
Frederick pursed his lips and said with a dark expression, "I tried talking to her nicely, but she just won't admit it. I had to show her the evidence."
"And then? What happens after you prove she's my mommy?"
"I'll apologize and beg for her forgiveness."
Dennis was speechless. How could someone so smart be so emotionally clueless?
"Daddy, doing that is like slapping Mommy in the face and then giving her a candy. Do you think Mommy is a three-year-old who can be easily coaxed?"
Frederick sneered, "With her IQ, she's no more than two and a half years old."
"Then you're not even three!" Dennis retorted mercilessly.
Frederick's face twitched awkwardly.
Dennis continued, "Since it was your mistake back then, as you were the one who unilaterally wanted to spend your life with Mom and had already decided in your heart that it was her, you should humble yourself.
What you should be doing now is not proving her identity to her, but thinking about how to make her happy, how to make her like you!"
Frederick's face darkened as she uttered, "I've already decided in my heart that it's her, but I need her to admit it first so we can communicate properly."
Dennis said, "In theory, that's how it should be. But in reality, Mommy is very resistant to your words and actions. Given that, shouldn't you change your approach?"
Before Frederick could respond, Dennis furrowed his little brows and stated, "Now I think that all these years you're striving to find Mommy wasn't truly out of love for her. Instead, it was born out of guilt."
Frederick was stunned, replying, "No."
"Yes! You just want to find her to make up for your past mistakes and ease your conscience!"
If that weren't the case, he would have recognized Isabella long ago! And he wouldn't be so insistent on making Isabella admit it!
Dennis explained, "If you truly loved Mommy, you would only think about making her happy. You would try your best to show your good side and find ways to make her like you. Instead of repeatedly trying to confirm it when she's clearly very resistant!
The same person, if she's Mommy, you love her; if she's not Mommy, you don't love her. Do you think that's true love?
If you truly love someone, you would love them no matter what their identity is, right?"
Frederick looked at Dennis with heavy breathing, unable to respond.
All these years, he had been looking for her, trying so hard to find her.
He thought he loved her. If he didn't, why would he be so obsessed with her? Why would he be so desperate to be good to her?
But what Dennis said seemed to make sense. Maybe he just felt guilty and wanted to make it up to her. Making up for something is not the same as love!
"Daddy," Uttering, Dennis suddenly walked up and held his hand, looking up at him with his little face. "Daddy said that blood relations aren't that important; what's important is the attitude towards each other. The Valdemar Family is related to Daddy by blood, but you don't treat each other well. Elliot and Daddy aren't related by blood, but you're as close as brothers!
No matter if Isabella is my biological mommy or not, if I like her and she likes me, then we're mother and son!
I want this, Mommy, and I want a complete family. Regardless of whether she is the one Daddy has been searching for, can you try to like her for me?"
Frederick looked at Dennis in surprise, asking, "You want me to be with her? What if she's not your mommy, and after I'm with her, your mommy comes back?"
"Whether Mommy comes back or not has nothing to do with you being with her."
Frederick frowned as he said, "I promised your mommy that I would make her the happiest and most noble woman in the world!"
Dennis questioned, "She can't be happy or noble without marrying you? Only by marrying you can she be happy and noble? Daddy, that's narcissistic!"
Frederick was left speechless by Dennis's retort.
Dennis continued, "You want to take responsibility, but that doesn't mean you have to marry Mommy. Just like repaying a favor doesn't mean you have to marry the person. Maybe insisting on marrying her is actually her misfortune."
Frederick's lips moved, but he didn't know how to refute.
All these years, he had been wanting to find her and be with her. He thought they should be together for life since they had been intimate.
And he always thought the way to make her happy and noble was to marry her and spoil her! But what Dennis said seemed to make some sense.
Dennis went on, "Now, I just want Isabella as my mommy, and I want Daddy to be with her.
Of course, I won't force Daddy. I just hope Daddy will try. If, after trying, Daddy still doesn't like her, I won't blame you. But if Daddy doesn't even want to try, I'll be very sad."
Hearing this, Frederick quickly said, "I didn't say I wouldn't try."
How could he bear to make Dennis sad?
"So Daddy agrees?"
Frederick didn't answer immediately. He stared at Dennis for a while, then looked into the hospital room. He asked, "Did she teach you to say all this?"
Dennis shook his head as he spoke, "She doesn't even like you, how could she teach me to say these things to you?"
Frederick frowned again.
Dennis continued to ask, "Daddy, just say it. Do you agree or not?"
Looking at Dennis's expectant eyes, Frederick felt like he had no choice.
"I agree!" said Frederick.
Dennis's eyes lit up as he uttered, "Great, then it's settled. From today on, Daddy will start pursuing Mommy!"
Frederick reluctantly and confusedly mumbled, "Okay."
Dennis emphasized again, "Since Daddy agreed, you have to follow through! I'll be watching you! Don't let me down!
And Daddy, stop thinking about whether she's my mommy or not. Forget about the past and focus on pursuing Mommy!"
After saying that, Dennis happily went to find Isabella.
Dennis had achieved all his goals today.
Firstly, He begged Mommy to stay and give Frederick a chance, and she agreed.
Then, He pressured Frederick to let go of everything and start pursuing his mommy. Although Frederick was reluctant, he still agreed!
So Dennis was really happy.
However, Frederick was really confused.
Was he supposed to start pursuing Isabella today? He had to pursue Isabella without knowing whether Isabella was actually Dennis's mother!
Frederick was bewildered!
