Chapter 139 She Doesn't Want Love; She Wants Money
When she didn't turn him down, he wanted to see Hugo. But after she said no, he even wanted to see Justin!
Isabella glared at him, teeth clenched. "You're never seeing my son!"
Frederick was baffled. "Why not? Is it your son who's got a problem, or is it me?"
"It's you. Your whole family... well, except Dennis. It's just you!"
Frederick's face darkened. "Fine, if you won't bring them to me, I'll find them myself."
"You wouldn't dare! I'll fight you to the end!" Isabella snapped.
Frederick went quiet.
They stared each other down for a few seconds. Isabella softened a bit.
"Give me the photo. I'll take it back and ask if they've seen this person," she said.
Frederick was confused but didn't push it. His goal wasn't to see her son but to find out about the masked person.
"I'll send it to you later," he said.
Isabella took a deep breath.
Just as she calmed down, Dennis came out of the bathroom. Instead of heading back to the bedroom, he walked to the kitchen.
He was hungry.
Isabella knew, so she quickly wiped her hands and brought out the porridge she had made for him.
"Dennis, have some porridge to settle your stomach. You can't eat too much right after waking up. Once you finish and rest for a bit, we'll have lunch."
Dennis nodded and sat down to eat the porridge.
Frederick glanced at Dennis, took the garlic to the dining room, and sat across from him.
"Are you scared?" Frederick asked.
Dennis looked up, confused.
Frederick continued, "Today's incident with the wolves was an accident. I've already had Elliot look into it. Don't worry."
He didn't want Dennis to know the truth and get upset.
Dennis was even more confused. "What wolves?"
In the kitchen, Isabella dropped the knife she was holding.
Frederick and Dennis both looked over.
Frederick stood up. "Are you hurt?"
"No," Isabella replied.
She quickly picked up the knife and nervously turned on the faucet to wash it.
Frederick was puzzled. "Why are you panicking again?"
"I'm not panicking! When did I panic?" Isabella was clearly agitated.
Her mood today was like a roller coaster, all because of him!
She and Hugo were inside when he suddenly barged in, asking if she was hiding someone under the bed, which startled her.
Then he suddenly said he wanted to see Hugo and Justin, which scared her again.
Just when she had calmed down, he started talking to Dennis about today's family memorial event!
Although Dennis had psychological issues, he could communicate normally when he wasn't having an episode. Dennis hadn't gone to the event; wouldn't Frederick's question reveal everything?
If the lie was exposed, Frederick would realize it wasn't Dennis who went to the event, and then he would discover Hugo!
Isabella was both panicked and had a headache!
People shouldn't have lied. One lie led to a bunch of other issues!
She had only thought about dealing with the family memorial event and forgot to think about what to do afterward!
How could she avoid being exposed?
How could she make sure Dennis didn't slip up and let Frederick continue to believe it was Dennis who went to the event?
"Isabella, you're acting really strange today!" Frederick said bluntly.
Isabella snapped back to reality, realizing her reaction was a bit extreme, and mumbled, "He's eating. Don't bring up unpleasant things; it will ruin his appetite. And the smell of raw garlic is strong, so don't peel it in front of him. Also, don't mention today's family memorial event in front of Dennis again."
"Why?"
"It's not a happy event. Talking about it will just bring him down. Better to chat about something cheerful."
"Is there anything that makes him happy?" Frederick asked.
Isabella was stumped. That was a tough one.
Lately, nothing seemed to make Dennis happy. She had been taking care of him for so long and had never seen him smile.
Trying to divert Frederick's attention, Isabella said, "You can talk to him about Blizzard. He's really into my son Justin's Blizzard."
Frederick didn't argue and asked, "Where did Blizzard come from?"
"What?"
"I want to buy one for Dennis."
"Blizzard wasn't bought!"
"Then where did it come from?" Frederick pressed.
Isabella lied, "It was found by accident in the village."
Frederick didn't doubt her. "Convince your son to sell Blizzard to Dennis. Name your price."
Isabella glared coldly. "Do you think everything can be bought with money? Money isn't everything, you know..."
Frederick interrupted, "Five hundred thousand dollars."
Isabella was stunned. "How much?"
"Five hundred thousand dollars, and I won't ask for the 2.5 million dollars you owe me, as long as your son gives Blizzard to Dennis."
Dennis really liked Blizzard.
It was rare for Dennis to like something, and Frederick wanted to get it for him.
Isabella's eyes widened. Five hundred thousand plus 2.5 million—3 million dollars!
With that kind of money, it was hard to say no!
But Blizzard was Justin's beloved pet. She couldn't make Justin sad for money!
'It would be great if Blizzard could find another of its kind,' Isabella thought.
"Blizzard is absolutely not for sale! But I can try to find another one like it."
"Okay, if you can find one, I'll pay you the same price," Frederick said.
He had already had people searched all the major pet markets without success, but if Isabella could find one to make Dennis happy, he would agree to any condition she set.
Isabella was a money-grubber who became even more obsessed with money after facing life's setbacks.
In her view, sentiments and affections paled in comparison to the allure of wealth.
She needed money for food, clothing, and shelter. Raising kids required money. Life could go on without love, but not without money!
While cooking, Isabella was still thinking about asking Justin when she got home to see if Blizzard could bring back another of its kind.
Meanwhile, Blizzard had already returned.
Following Hugo's scent, it crawled in through the window and went under the bed.
Hugo wasn't surprised to see it. He knew Blizzard's abilities.
Back then, Isabella would not allow Justin to keep it and released it many times, but it always found its way back to Justin.
Blizzard was very intelligent and smart.
Hugo gently petted its little head, praising it for a job well done today.
Blizzard remained aloof, not changing its demeanor because of Hugo's affection. It only cared for Justin's.
Blizzard flicked its red tongue and coolly crawled into Hugo's sleeve.
Hugo smiled warmly and continued texting Justin.
He only felt relieved after learning that Justin had arrived home.
Suddenly, there was a commotion outside. "Eric, he's appeared again!"
Then came Frederick's voice telling Isabella and Dennis to stay inside, followed by the sound of the door opening and closing.
Hugo's smartwatch received a new message: [Go home, I've led them away.]
Hugo frowned as he thought, 'Is it from the masked person?'
