Chapter 109 Frederick Came
Hugo and Justin bolted home, totally oblivious to the creepy eyes tracking them from a shadowy corner.
The guy in the black robe and freaky mask muttered to himself, "Naughty kids, so disobedient."
Out of nowhere, a stray cat popped out of the bushes. He snatched it up.
His hands were super pale, well-manicured, with long, clean fingers—definitely not the hands of someone who does hard work.
He gently stroked the cat's head with those elegant hands, whispering, "Disobedient, must be punished."
Then, out of the blue, he snapped the cat's neck.
It happened so fast, the cat didn't even have time to yowl.
Just like that, it was dead. He petted it one last time, dug a hole, and carefully buried it.
Even though he did something so brutal, he stayed eerily calm. He softly said, "Sleep, sleep."
That night, Teronica got hit with a massive storm—howling winds, lightning, thunder, the whole shebang, lasting all night.
It felt like a bad omen.
Dennis had just been discharged and was back in Sunnyvale Community.
Frederick stood by the study window, unable to sleep.
Morning came, the rain still pouring, and he hadn't budged.
He kept staring out the window, hoping to see that familiar figure.
But Dennis was already up, and Isabella was still a no-show.
The dining table was loaded with breakfast, some brought by John from the villa, some cooked by Frederick himself.
Dennis sat down, glanced at the spread, and frowned.
Frederick explained, "The usual person had something to do today and couldn't bring you breakfast. Just eat something for now."
Dennis stayed silent for a bit, then got up and went back to his room.
He shut the door and locked it.
Not his kind of food, he wasn't gonna eat.
John looked worried and said, "Dennis seems to only eat Ms. Beniere's cooking. If it's not made by her, he won't touch it. What do we do?"
Frederick looked towards Dennis's room, frowning hard.
He was worried about Dennis and pissed at Isabella for neglecting Dennis, but he knew he had no right to be mad at her.
She had helped Dennis out of her own will, and now, with everything going on, it made sense for her to be scared and not want to help anymore.
"Clear it all away!" Frederick ordered.
Since Dennis wouldn't eat, Frederick lost his appetite too. He got up and went back to the study.
He had just lit a cigarette when Elliot called, "Frederick, something's up with Isabella."
Frederick's brow furrowed, "What happened?"
"Last night, Anna got attacked, and they found Isabella's eldest son's fingerprints on her. Anna's saying Isabella tried to kill her and is accusing her of attempted murder."
Attempted murder?
That's a big deal!
Frederick's face darkened, "What now?"
Elliot said, "The cops are already involved. The Valdemar family has a reputation, and those cops might be biased. If we don't step in, Isabella could be in trouble."
Hearing this, Frederick didn't hesitate. He stubbed out his cigarette, grabbed his car keys, and rushed out.
In his hurry, he forgot an umbrella.
When he got to the door and saw the pouring rain, he remembered the umbrella.
He frowned and dashed into the rain anyway.
The call was still going. Once in the car, he asked, "Why were Isabella's eldest son's fingerprints on Anna?"
"Not sure yet," Elliot replied.
"Have they found who attacked Anna?" Frederick pressed.
"Not yet. The cops found Anna in the park last night, but all the surveillance footage was messed with, so there's no way to figure out who took her there or how."
Frederick scratched his head, "Isn't Isabella's son only five? How could he hurt her?"
"Exactly. That's why Anna's accusing Isabella, not her son. They didn't find Isabella's fingerprints, but her son's were there, making Isabella look really suspicious. We're still digging into the details," Elliot explained.
"Get there first, don't let the cops take her away!"
"On it!"
Meanwhile, Hugo was trying to keep his cool, explaining to the police, "I made the emergency call last night. Justin and I went to the park to play while Mom wasn't home and found her unconscious, so we called the police."
The cops looked surprised, "You made the call?"
"Yeah, if you don't believe me, you can check," he replied.
"Then why didn't we see you when we arrived?" one of the officers asked.
"Because Justin and I snuck out to play. We were scared Mom would find out and scold us, so we hid in the bushes. We left after you guys showed up."
Another officer came over and whispered, "We just checked. The emergency call last night was indeed made from Hugo's smartwatch, and Isabella was sick yesterday. There are witnesses; she had no time to commit the crime."
The police exchanged glances and had to leave for now.
Even though they had Anna's orders, evidence was evidence.
If they dared to forcibly take someone today, and the matter got out, they'd be finished!
Isabella was also at home. She had been sick all night and rushed back after getting the police call this morning.
Hearing Hugo's explanation, she finally relaxed.
Out of courtesy, she saw the police out.
As she opened the door, Frederick's handsome face suddenly appeared in her view!
Frederick had just arrived.
Isabella's heart skipped a beat, and the relief she felt vanished instantly!
With a "bang," she quickly closed the door, blocking it, and looked at Frederick with full alertness.
Hugo and Justin were inside, while Frederick was outside, separated by just one door!
This was the closest Isabella knew the father and sons had ever been!
Frederick didn't know he had sons out there, and they were right inside!
He frowned with displeasure upon seeing how frightened Isabella was of him.
The police didn't recognize Frederick, but they had just seen Hugo and Justin.
Seeing how identical they looked, they knew Frederick was the father.
Frederick's face was dark, and the police were a bit intimidated. They explained, "Sorry to disturb you. Don't worry, we were just here for routine questioning. We've cleared it up; this has nothing to do with your wife and sons."
Isabella's heart pounded, almost jumping out of her chest!
She turned to the speaking police, uttering, "I'm not his wife! And my sons are not his sons!"
"Huh? Really?"
"Yes!" she answered quickly.
"But I thought he looked just like your sons..."
Before the police could finish, his phone rang. It was his superior.
"Sorry, we have an urgent matter to attend to." The police changed the subject and quickly left.
As soon as the police left, Isabella grabbed Frederick's arm and forcibly dragged him into the elevator.
Even downstairs wasn't enough; she dragged him into the pouring rain, pulling him out of the community.
Frederick tried to shake her off twice but couldn't.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
Isabella said nothing, gripping him tightly, her whole body exuding stubbornness!
Frederick, with a dark face, said nothing more and let her drag him out of the community.
Once outside, Isabella suddenly exploded, "Who sent you here? Why did you come? Didn't I say I never want to see you again?!"
She only dared to explode after getting far away from Hugo and Justin.
