Chapter 142 My Mommy Is the Best in the World
Dennis squinted, suspicion all over his face.
Hugo chimed in, "If everything goes as planned, we should be brothers."
Justin corrected, "Half-brothers."
Dennis's eyes nearly popped out of his head.
Hugo's tone softened, "Mom told me about you. I know my mom's been looking after you. We're both Frederick's kids, which explains why we look alike."
Dennis, breathing heavily, shot back, "My dad said he only had one woman. That's my mom!"
Hugo's lips twitched. Despite Isabella and Frederick being legally married, no matter how much Dennis's mom and Frederick loved each other, she was still the other woman.
So, Dennis was technically an illegitimate child.
Hugo knew their relationship was touchy, but since Isabella genuinely cared for Dennis, he wanted the best for him too.
Not wanting to upset Dennis, he said, "Let's not get into adult stuff. Justin and I came because our mom got a late-night call from your dad and rushed over. We were worried about her.
Since you found us, I'll lay it out. I went to the family memorial today in your place..."
Hugo explained everything and added, "My mom's a good person and has a bond with you. She worries about you but fears retaliation, so she came up with this plan, and I helped her.
Don't worry, I went to the memorial today just for you and Mom. We don't want anything from the Valdemar family."
Dennis was quiet for a bit before asking, "So, you messed with my computer?"
Hugo, with a question of his own, nodded, "Yeah, I needed some info but found your computer locked. Do you use it a lot?"
Dennis didn't answer, but his silence said it all.
They exchanged looks, realizing they were both computer whizzes.
After clearing things up, Dennis brought it back to Frederick and Isabella, "What's the deal with my dad and your mom? Dad told me he has nothing to do with your mom! If you don't tell me, I'll find out myself."
Hugo hesitated, then hit the key points, "They were married but not in love and hadn't even met.. Then your dad came back from abroad, had a one-night stand with my mom, and that's how we came to be.
But they didn't see each other clearly when it happened, so your dad thought my mom cheated on him, made her sign a divorce agreement, and left her with nothing. When he said he had nothing to do with my mom, he wasn't lying; he didn't know himself."
Dennis was floored.
Justin quickly asked Dennis, "What's the deal with your mom and Frederick?"
Dennis frowned, "I don't know. Dad never said. He only told me my mom was the only woman he ever loved and that he only ever touched my mom."
Justin snapped, "Liar! If he didn't touch my mom, how could Hugo and I exist? And if he loved your mom so much, why didn't he marry her?"
Dennis's face darkened, speechless.
Justin went on, "Loving your mom but not giving her a home is weak. Not loving my mom but still touching her is scummy. So, in conclusion, Frederick is not a good person."
Frederick, in his study, sneezed.
Elijah asked, looking worried, "You coming down with something?"
Frederick shook his head, "Nah, I'm good."
Elijah continued, "Dennis might be dealing with a split personality. Don't stress; I'll go check on him."
Elijah left the study to find Dennis.
As he got to the door, he overheard Dennis saying, "He's not a jerk; he's a good guy!"
"How is he not a jerk? His actions scream jerk! Sure, he's good to you, and I believe he's a good dad. But saying he's not a jerk? I can't agree."
"He didn't hurt your mom; he just didn't love her."
"How can you say there was no harm when he got my mom pregnant with us? And Hugo found out he thought my mom cheated on him, made her leave with nothing, and trashed her reputation!
That's like the bad guy blaming others first, doing wrong but pointing fingers!
And I should be grateful he didn't love my mom. He doesn't deserve her; my mom's the best in the world!"
"My mom's the best!"
"I didn't say your mom isn't good; I just said my mom's the best in the world."
Elijah was losing it. What was he hearing?
He didn't dare go in and rushed back to the study. He blurted out, "Frederick, Dennis is worse off than you think! He's talking to himself, like he has multiple personalities!"
Frederick was floored, "What are you talking about?"
Elijah explained frantically, "It means his other personalities have taken over and are using Dennis's body. It looks like he's chatting with others, but he's actually talking to himself, with each personality having different opinions.
One personality thinks you're a jerk, while another disagrees. They're arguing about you accusing your wife of cheating and making her leave with nothing!
And each personality thinks they have a different mom, both believing their mom is the best in the world!
It's like Dennis is arguing with himself, which means his condition is really bad, and he might lose his mind!"
Frederick was freaked out and immediately started pacing outside.
Isabella had just come out of the bathroom and, seeing Frederick's panic, asked, "What's going on?"
Frederick didn't answer and barged into Dennis's room.
Dennis was standing by the bed, looking at Frederick with a mix of caution and nervousness.
Hugo and Justin had just hidden under the bed, almost getting caught.
Frederick, breathing heavily, said, "Dennis."
Dennis swallowed hard, trying to stay calm, "What's up?"
Frederick tried to steady himself, "Why are you standing by the bed?"
"Just thirsty, came down for water."
"Were you talking to someone just now?"
"No!"
"But Elijah said he heard you chatting with someone, even arguing."
Dennis instinctively glanced at Elijah, "Elijah heard wrong."
Elijah said, "Dennis, your dad said you forgot about today's family memorial event."
"I didn't forget."
Elijah was taken aback.
Frederick was also surprised. He asked, "Didn't you say you forgot and only remembered sleeping all day?"
"I forgot then, but I remember now."
Frederick clearly didn't buy it, looking at him with a puzzled expression.
To convince Frederick, Dennis repeated some key points Hugo had told him earlier.
This time, it was Isabella's turn to be shocked!
Clearly, it was Hugo who went, so how did Dennis know the details?
