Chapter 138 Frederick, Go Peel the Garlic

Isabella was caught off guard, snapping back, "I didn't do anything wrong!"

Frederick raised an eyebrow, "Then why are you so worked up?"

"I'm not worked up!"

Frederick just shrugged, ignoring her, and walked into the room.

Seeing Dennis with his eyes closed, looking like he had been out for the count, he asked, "What's up with Dennis?"

"What's up with him?"

"He was full of energy when we got back. Why'd he suddenly fall asleep like that?" Frederick pressed.

"He was just tired from being out too long."

Frederick touched Dennis's little face, saw his steady breathing, and didn't think much of it. He turned to Isabella, "Come out, I need to talk to you."

He walked out. Isabella watched him go, her heart racing, and patted her chest.

Hugo was still under the bed. If Frederick found out, it would be a total disaster!

But then, Frederick suddenly stopped and turned around, like he sensed something.

He saw Isabella patting her chest, which made him even more suspicious.

"Why are you so jumpy?" Frederick asked.

Isabella shivered, "I'm not jumpy."

Frederick squinted at her, "You hiding something from me?"

"No!" she said, but her face said otherwise.

Frederick didn't leave, instead, he walked back towards her.

Isabella, terrible at lying, clumsily blocked the bed as soon as he approached, practically giving herself away!

Frederick frowned and glanced under the bed, "What's under the bed?"

Isabella's heart pounded, and she denied it, "Nothing! There's nothing!"

It was obvious there was!

Frederick pursed his lips, "Move aside."

He usually didn't care about her business, but today he was curious.

Isabella was terrified, her chest heaving.

She pushed him with all her might, "Get out!"

Frederick stumbled, getting annoyed, "What are you doing?"

"Get out!"

"Hiding someone?" Frederick asked instinctively.

Isabella's reaction was like a wife hiding a lover from her husband.

He asked casually, but Isabella almost fainted from fear!

Saying she was hiding someone hit the mark, way more intense than saying she was hiding something!

She really had Hugo hidden under the bed!

The more nervous she got, the more curious Frederick became. Ignoring her, he tried to pull her away to see what was under the bed!

But as soon as he touched Isabella, she bit his arm like an angry little puppy.

She bit hard!

Frederick winced in pain, "Isabella!"

Isabella gritted her teeth, "Don't touch me!"

"Who wants to touch you, you..." Frederick snapped.

"What are you two doing?" Dennis suddenly woke up, frowning at them.

Both of them turned to him.

Isabella turned around, "Dennis, you're awake. How are you feeling?"

Dennis frowned, "I just took a nap. Why are you so jumpy?"

Isabella was taken aback. "I'm not jumpy."

Dennis gave her a puzzled look, "I'm fine."

Then he looked at Frederick, his eyes questioning: What did you do to her to scare her like this?

Frederick sneered, "You should ask her what she was up to in your room."

Isabella heard this, frowned, and glared at Frederick, stammering, "I was just handling some personal stuff in the room, but I didn't want him to know. He kept asking, though."

Frederick was silent.

Dennis was also silent.

The room was quiet for a moment, then Dennis spoke coldly, "If you don't want to say, then don't. Everyone's entitled to their secrets."

Isabella was touched; what a remarkably considerate kid!

Seeing Dennis lift the blanket to get out of bed, she quickly asked, "Dennis, where are you going?"

"Bathroom."

"Oh, go ahead. I'll whip up something for you in the kitchen."

Then, thinking of Hugo, she turned to Frederick and said, "You should leave too! It's really rude to keep prying into other people's business!"

Frederick gave her a look. He figured with her smarts, she couldn't be up to anything major, so he shrugged it off and left.

Frederick's arrogance and disdain made him miss a golden chance to discover his son Hugo!

After they all left, Isabella took several deep breaths. She was really freaked out just now.

She didn't dare let Hugo out directly, as Dennis was already awake and could come back at any time.

She quietly knocked on the bed, signaling Hugo to hang tight a bit longer.

Isabella also left, closing the door behind her, worried Frederick might sneak back in. She directed him to work.

She called out loudly, "Frederick, peel a lot of garlic! I'm making garlic shrimp for Dennis."

Frederick, lounging on the sofa, lifted his eyelids and looked at her in disbelief. "I should peel?"

"What's wrong with you? Don't tell me you don't know how! After peeling the garlic, clean these green onions too."

Frederick didn't say a word.

Isabella snapped, "Do it yourself, and you'll have plenty to eat. If you don't want to work, don't eat my lunch. And remember, you're peeling for your son, not me."

Frederick glared at her, threw his phone on the coffee table, and started peeling the garlic.

Only then did Isabella feel at ease, tying on an apron to make lunch.

After a while, Frederick came over with his phone. He asked formally, "Do you know this person?"

Isabella was washing vegetables. She turned her head to look and said, "No."

"Look carefully."

"He's wearing a mask, how can I see clearly? What's he doing? Role-playing?" Isabella retorted impatiently.

"You haven't seen him?"

"No!"

"He's the one who attacked Anna that day, and last night he was sneaking around the neighborhood. I suspect he's looking for you," Frederick stated.

Isabella was stunned, put the vegetables on the counter, wiped her hands on her apron, took his phone, and zoomed in on the photo to look closely.

After a while, she shook her head, "I'm sure I don't know him!"

Frederick stared at her for a few seconds, seeing she didn't seem to be lying, then put away his phone, and casually said, "Bring your eldest son over this afternoon."

Isabella was scared to death, "Who?"

"Your eldest son."

"Why do you want to see him?"

"To ask him a few questions."

"About what?"

Frederick continued peeling garlic, saying as he did, "On the day Anna's incident occurred, it was your eldest son who found her and called the police. I want to ask if he's seen this person."

Isabella's heart pounded, "My son said he accidentally ran into Anna that day! He definitely has nothing to do with this person!"

"I'm not saying they have a relationship, just want to understand the situation."

"There's nothing to understand! I'm warning you, don't mess with my son!" Isabella said firmly.

Frederick looked up at her, "I'm just asking. Why are you so resistant?"

"I'm not resistant; I just don't want you to contact my son!"

"Am I going to eat him?" Frederick inquired.

Isabella's lips moved, "My son is timid. I'm afraid you'll scare him!"

Frederick retorted, "Timid? But he can go to the park alone at night?"

"He wasn't alone, he went with his brother!" Isabella stated.

"That only means both of them are brave. Now that you mention it, bring your second son as well, I'll see them both."

Isabella was shocked!
