Chapter 13 Overthinking
Isabella and the children needed a place to stay and food to eat.
Although Hugo, Justin, and Paul were still young and didn't eat much, it was a crucial time for their growth. They couldn't just rely on bread.
Fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, seafood, and meat were all essential.
Isabella calculated that the expenses for their family of four were not insignificant.
The two thousand of dollars wouldn't last long.
With no money, Isabella felt anxious. She believed she should find a part-time job, preferably one that paid daily.
After all, there was no definite answer from the Rose Garden, and Frederick's return was uncertain. She couldn't wait until they had nothing left before she started earning money.
However, in a society that valued education and certificates, she couldn't find a job without them.
Isabella sighed in helplessness.
At times like this, she felt sad.
She had indeed been admitted to a good university, but fate had been cruel to her. The past was too painful for her to dwell on.
Isabella searched online but couldn't find a suitable job.
In the end, she decided to go for a well-paying one.
She discovered that working in a bar to sell alcohol paid well.
The pay was daily, $76 per night, plus a 2% commission.
Although Isabella didn't like the environment, she compromised for the money.
At 7 p.m., Isabella arrived at the Nightingale on time.
The bar was a place of extravagance, where the rich spent their money.
The people who could afford to come here were all wealthy.
In just over an hour, Isabella sold three bottles of wine, each priced at two or four thousand dollars. Altogether, she earned more than $200 in commissions.
In today's society, appearance was just as important as education and certificates.
Isabella was beautiful, with a great figure and a pleasant voice. Her hands were particularly attractive.
Listening to her talk and watching her pour wine was a delight.
That's why Isabella was popular here.
However, being too beautiful also had its drawbacks, and soon she caught someone's eye.
"You finish this bottle. I'll foot the bill," said Glen Walter, Alison's uncle. In Teronica, he was known for his lecherous behavior, always trying to take advantage of women.
He was unattractive and incompetent, but he loved to play around.
Isabella didn't know him. She was taken aback. "Should I drink it?"
"Yes, you drink it. Not a drop left," he insisted.
"Isn't that inappropriate? This bottle of wine is expensive," Isabella pointed out.
"I say it's fine. This bottle costs $20,000. You drink, I pay," Glen said, his eyes full of desire.
Isabella realized she was dealing with a rogue. She resisted the urge to hit him and smiled, "I'm sorry. I took cold medicine before I came today, so I can't drink."
Glen became unhappy.
"Then take the wine away. We don't want it," he said.
Isabella panicked. "There's a rule in the bar that once the wine is opened, it can't be returned."
Glen sneered, "Did I ask you to open it? You wanted to open it. If the wine can't be returned, then you'll have to pay for it."
Isabella suppressed her anger and said, "You asked me to open it, that's why I dared to. There should be surveillance in this private room. You can check it."
Her words immediately drew laughter from the people in the room.
"She must not come here often. How can there be surveillance cameras everywhere in a bar? What if we want to do something?"
Someone reminded, "Madam, Mr. Walter taking an interest in you is your good fortune. If he asks you to drink, you drink. Don't refuse. Do you know who Mr. Walter is? He's a big shot! But if you can please him, you'll have a bright future."
Isabella understood that Glen had power.
Now they were playing tricks. If she directly confronted them, she would definitely lose.
Ordinary people were nothing in front of the capitalists. Their resistance would only lead to defeat.
This bottle of wine was $20,000, which was a year's salary for many people. But the rich could easily spend it on several bottles in one night.
So, Isabella had no capital to confront them.
But if she had to bear this $20,000, she might as well be dead. She couldn't afford to pay.
Isabella fell silent for a few seconds and smiled apologetically, "My apologies. Mr. Walter, it's too noisy here. Shall we go somewhere quieter?"
Glen immediately became excited and smiled. Then he stood up and said, "Sure, let's find a quieter place and have a deeper conversation."
There was a chorus of cheers and laughter in the private room. "Yes, have a deep conversation."
Listening to the frivolous laughter, Isabella felt nauseous.
She held back the feeling, forced a smile, and turned to leave.
Frederick had just stepped out of the elevator. He happened to see Isabella darting into the safety door.
He stood there, his expression unreadable.
The next second, Glen rushed out of the private room and hurried to the safety door.
He smiled and said, "Baby, I'm here."
Behind the bar's safety door was a place where stories unfolded.
After all, it was dimly lit and sparsely populated, a place where excited men and women satisfied their desires.
"I like you. The moment I saw you, you captivated me. Don't worry. I'll treat you well. If you please me, I'll reward you greatly! Your lips... Get down on your knees, and suck my dick," he said, his words full of innuendo.
This statement sparked countless imaginations.
Isabella suddenly let out a scream.
Elliot became nervous. “Eric, Ms. Beniere seems to be in danger."
Frederick frowned. He didn't want to deal with her, but he thought of Dennis, so he quickly walked over.
Then he saw a scene that shocked him. Glen had a black garbage bag over his head. He was lying on the ground, holding his head and groaning, while Isabella was kicking and hitting him.
Although her strength was not enough, like a primary school student in a fight, Glen was still in pain.
After all, she was wearing high heels.
Glen seemed to be too drunk to fight back.
Isabella continued to hit him for a while, then took a few breaths and made a face at Glen before quickly fainting on the ground.
Glen groaned as he got up, took off the garbage bag from his head, and said, "Damn it! Who did this? I'll kill you!"
Isabella 'woke up' and started acting. "Mr. Walter, what happened? My head hurts. It feels like I've been hit."
"I was attacked. Did you see who it was?"
"No, I was knocked out just now."
"Damn it! Someone dared to ruin my date and hit me. Baby, don't be afraid. I'll call someone over to investigate. I'll kill the person once I catch them."
Glen cursed as he picked up his phone to make a call.
Isabella used the opportunity to go to the bathroom, looking scared.
However, as soon as she turned around, her expression changed. She looked rich. Obviously, she was cursing in her heart.
Her curses were probably full of profanity.
Frederick and Elliot were both surprised.
Isabella actually did this.
After a brief thought, Frederick and Elliot could figure out what had happened.
Glen must have tried to bully her, and she didn't dare to resist directly, so she schemed against him.
They didn't know whether to praise her for being clever or marvel at her bravery.
Isabella came out from behind the safety door, seemingly timid on the surface, but she was actually pleased.
Suddenly, she saw Frederick and Elliot, and her heart skipped a beat.
