Chapter 66 Dennis, Making Her Anxious
Dennis suddenly grabbed a metal fork and held it to his neck.
"Are you leaving or not? Are you leaving or not?" he shouted.
Isabella gasped, frozen in fear.
Frederick yelled, "Get out!"
Isabella snapped out of it, looked at the two angry men, and quickly bolted out of the house without her clothes or shoes.
She leaned against the door, panting.
Dennis and Justin looked so alike that when Dennis got angry, she panicked.
She slipped into a motherly role, forgetting she was a doctor, and couldn't calm Dennis like she did with Albert.
Winter in Teronica was freezing.
Isabella stood at the door, shivering, unsure if it was from the cold or fear.
She didn't dare go far; if Dennis continued, he might have an episode.
Luckily, it quieted down inside after a while.
She knew Dennis's emotions had stabilized, so there was no immediate danger.
Isabella exhaled slowly.
But thinking of Dennis's face made her tense again.
She quickly texted Freya.
Isabella: [Freya, are Hugo and Justin with you?]
Freya quickly sent a photo.
Freya: [Yes, they're still asleep.]
Confirming that the person with Frederick wasn't Justin, Isabella felt a bit relieved.
At least Hugo and Justin hadn't been discovered by him!
It made sense Dennis looked like Hugo and Justin since Dennis was Eric's child.
After a while, the door creaked open, and Frederick came out.
Seeing Isabella's lips turning purple from the cold, he frowned.
He grabbed her clothes from the coat rack and tossed them to her, then gestured for her to change her shoes.
Isabella quickly put on her down jacket and cautiously walked back inside, looking for Dennis.
The place was a mess.
There was no sign of Dennis in the living room.
She heard water running in the bathroom.
Isabella looked at Frederick, about to speak, but he frowned and signaled her to stay quiet.
She understood, swallowed her words, changed her shoes, and left the house.
Frederick closed the door and went downstairs.
Isabella quickly followed.
"Are you going to leave Dennis alone in the house?"
Frederick didn't respond.
Isabella pressed on, "He just got angry. If he has an episode with no one around, it could be very dangerous."
"Why did he get so agitated when he saw me? Didn't you tell him I was coming? Didn't he know I was coming?"
"His suicidal tendencies are very obvious. He's in much worse shape than Albert. He shouldn't be at home right now. Why did you let him out of the hospital?"
Isabella bombarded him with questions, but Frederick stayed silent.
He ignored her completely.
Isabella was anxious and grabbed him as soon as they exited the building.
"Say something!"
Frederick glanced at her hand gripping him, frowned, and shook it off.
He got into the Volkswagen, and Isabella quickly followed.
This time, she sat in the passenger seat to facilitate communication.
Isabella was about to speak urgently, but Frederick cut her off. "Aren't you supposed to be an expert in child psychology? You calmed Albert down, so why can't you do the same with Dennis? Are you avoiding him on purpose?"
Isabella couldn't explain that Dennis looked so much like Hugo and Justin, making her overly concerned and anxious.
He added, "Do you have a problem with me? Are you taking it out on Dennis? Do you want to see him get into trouble?!"
Isabella was speechless. "Are you crazy? If I didn't want to help him, I would've left after Dennis kicked me out. Why would I stand outside in the cold?"
"Then why could you calm Albert but not Dennis?"
"When I met Albert, he was having an episode. He was a patient, and I was a doctor."
She continued, "But Dennis wasn't having an episode today; he was just really angry. Anger is a normal emotion. It can trigger illness, but it isn't an illness itself. Doctors can't treat emotions. Besides, I'm not even a real doctor."
Frederick glared at her, then looked away.
He took a cigarette from the armrest box, lit it, and smoked silently.
Isabella coughed from the smoke; she didn't like the smell of cigarettes.
But she knew she couldn't control him, so she endured it.
"If you really want me to help Dennis, you need to tell me everything about him. If not, I can't take care of Dennis!"
Frederick turned to look at Isabella again, and she stared back without backing down.
"You're an adult; you must understand how much the family environment affects a child. Parental discord, frequent arguments, or even domestic violence all impact a child's mental and physical development."
Frederick was silent.
They stared at each other for a few more seconds, and this time, Frederick backed down.
He looked away, took another puff of his cigarette, and said, "Dennis has never seen his mother. She disappeared after giving birth to him, so there were no family conflicts. The only thing he lacked was motherly love, and he has an obsession with his mother."
"But many kids grow up in single-parent families. Why is his obsession so deep?"
Isabella didn't quite understand.
Not every kid grows up with both parents. Some don't have fathers, some don't have mothers, and some are even orphans from birth.
But most kids still grow up healthy and happy.
The environment they grow up in is crucial. Seeing how Frederick acted around Dennis, he seemed like a good father, so Dennis shouldn't have turned out this way.
Just like her Hugo, Justin, and Paul, who had never experienced fatherly love but still grew up happily.
"Are you sure his psychological issues are due to his obsession with his mother?"
Frederick flicked the ash from his cigarette.
"He doesn't talk much, and the only topic he's willing to discuss is his mother. He even calls for her in his dreams. He's seen many psychologists, and they all believe his issues stem from his deep obsession with his mother."
Isabella frowned, deep in thought.
She felt something was off.
"Has he had a full medical check-up?"
"Twice a year."
"The reports? Let me see them."
