Chapter 178 I Would Give Her My Life If She Wanted It!

Frederick was quite happy, like a child who wanted candy and was given a sweet treat.

He looked at Dennis with a drunken smile, a pure and sunny smile.

With one look at that smile, it was clear it came from the depths of the heart; it was genuine happiness!

Isabella looked at him with a complex expression.

It was the first time she had seen him so unkempt, and the first time she had seen him smile with such childlike innocence.

At this moment, it seemed like Dennis was the parent, and he was the child.

Someone once said that within every grown man resides a childlike heart that remains hidden, hesitant to emerge in the face of life's myriad pressures.

Until, because of certain people or events, a man completely lets go and becomes carefree, allowing that childlike heart to emerge, turning the man into a boy.

He will shed his armor, reveal his vulnerable side, maybe act cute, and even share the thoughts he usually keeps buried.

Sure enough, the next second, Frederick cautiously asked Dennis, "Dennis, are you mad at me because of your mom?"

Dennis frowned; he was mad at Frederick! Mad at him for what he did to his mom back then, which hurt her, and now, even though he had found her, he didn't dare to reunite with her directly!

Afraid that once she knew the truth, she would run away and disappear completely.

But he could understand him too.

Given the situation back then, from his perspective, it was unavoidable.

Dennis deliberately spoke for Isabella to hear, "I am mad at you, but I also understand you. I know you well enough to know that if it wasn't unavoidable back then, you wouldn't have done it."

Frederick felt miserable, his eyes slightly reddening as he said, "In the end, it's my fault."

"Everyone makes mistakes; making mistakes isn't scary. What's scary is not making mistakes, but rather the unwillingness to repent and take responsibility. Is it right, Mom?"

Isabella was suddenly called out, stunned for a moment, and hurriedly organized her words, "Yes, a real man must be brave enough to bear the consequences of his mistakes."

Dennis immediately said to Frederick, "Dad, did you hear that? Mom said a real man must be brave enough to bear the consequences of his mistakes!

You are a real man! You must take responsibility for what happened back then! You must be brave enough to bear the consequences!"

Frederick murmured, "If I could really find her, I would give her my life if she wanted it!"

Isabella frowned as she thought, 'Why did it feel like these two were talking about me! Was it because my experience was similar to Dennis's mother's?'

She didn't know how Dennis's mother would view this, but she had once resented him! However, because of the children, she had let it go.

She didn't want revenge or explanations from him; she just wanted to stay far away and live a life with her children.

But thinking from another perspective, Dennis wasn't wrong. Back then, he did what he had to do to save his own life, which was understandable!

However, she would never be with him!

If she were Dennis's mother, she would find a way to take Dennis away and wouldn't want him!

Now, she only liked children and money!

In her eyes, Men were nothing!

"Dennis, go out." Frederick suddenly stood up shakily.

Isabella knew he probably needed to use the bathroom, so she quickly helped him to the toilet and then took Dennis out.

Dennis was worried, asking, "Can Dad manage on his own?"

Isabella's mouth twitched; he had to manage, who could help him with this?

She glanced at the time; it was almost 3:30. She asked, "Dennis, can't you sleep?"

Looking at his spirit, it was clear he had been awake and had run out of the bedroom.

Dennis neither nodded nor shook his head, which was a tacit admission.

A lot had happened today. He had just found his mom, and Frederick had made her cry. After she was comforted, Frederick got himself drunk out of sadness.

He felt sorry for his mom and worried about his dad, with too many things on his mind.

Isabella's eyes were full of concern for Dennis. She took him back to the bedroom, made him lie down, and forced him to sleep.

At his young age, he was still growing and couldn't stay up late!

Before falling asleep, Dennis looked at her and said, "Mom, Dad is a pitiful person."

"What?"

"Few people love him, but many want to harm him. For so many years, he has lacked even a single confidant with whom he can share his innermost thoughts."

Isabella didn't know how to respond; she couldn't bring herself to sympathize with him at the moment.

Dennis added, "He really misses Mom."

Looking at Dennis's cautious yet sincere eyes, Isabella felt both heartache and confusion. Why was Dennis telling her this?

Could it be that Dennis saw her as his biological mother?

Isabella was stunned, even more unsure of how to respond.

Dennis continued, "He just looks fierce, but he's not bad at all. He's really good. He's fierce because he's surrounded by bad people!

If he's not fierce, he'll get hurt by the bad people! Only by being fierce can he make the bad people fear him!"

Saying that, Dennis urgently asked, "Mom, he was indeed wrong in the past. Can you give him a chance to make it up?"

Hearing that, Isabella's eyes widened!

She was about to ask Dennis how he knew, but then she reconsidered. What Dennis meant by the past should not be six years ago, but rather the things that happened after she met Eric.

After all, since they met, Eric had hardly ever given her a good face.

Isabella said straightforwardly, "The past is the past; I haven't really held onto it. I don't need him to make it up to me. But you're still young, don't worry about adult matters.

If you truly love your dad and mom, you should take good care of yourself. If you're well, they will be well, understand?"

Dennis nodded, wanting to say more, but his mind gradually became muddled.

Isabella held his little hand and coaxed him to sleep, "Let's sleep, Dennis. I'll take care of your dad."

Soon, Dennis lost consciousness and fell asleep.

Isabella sighed softly.

She touched Dennis's little face and tucked him in.

She hoped Dennis's mom could forgive Eric and give Dennis a complete family! Dennis was too pitiful!

Just now, she was thinking she only liked children and money and didn't want a man.

But now, looking at Dennis, she changed her mind.

If it were her, she might really swallow her pride and be with Eric for Dennis's sake!

There was noise outside the door again; it must be Frederick coming out of the bathroom.

No surprise, he probably fell again.

Isabella pursed her lips, not wanting to care about him, but for Dennis's sake, she got up and went out.

The living room was pitch dark!

Isabella suspiciously asked, "Why did you turn off the lights?"

She reached out to turn on the light, but before her hand touched the switch on the wall, a tall shadow suddenly appeared, enveloping her in darkness!
