Chapter 92 Don't Want to Be a Babysitter, Want to Be a Wife?
She wasn't bringing food to Dennis just for the money, but hey, who'd say no to a thousand bucks a day? Even if it was to pay off a debt, it made life a bit brighter.
"Did he eat all the food from last night?" Isabella asked, trying to sound casual.
"Yeah, he did. He really likes sandwiches."
"Sandwiches, huh? Alright, I'll whip up another one for lunch."
Money had a way of making Isabella a bit softer.
Another cold gust hit, and she wrinkled her nose, which was turning red from the chill.
Frederick stared at her for a moment, frowned, and said, "Come back inside with me."
He started walking towards the apartment building entrance. Isabella quickly said, "I can't go in. If Dennis wakes up and sees me, he'll get mad again."
"He won't wake up until six-thirty."
It was just a little past six now.
Isabella still didn't want to go in. If Dennis wasn't awake, it would just be the two of them in the room, which felt awkward.
Frederick had already reached the entrance. Seeing her still standing there, he frowned, "Come in and get something."
"Huh? What do I need to get?"
Frederick didn't answer and just headed upstairs.
Isabella hesitated for a moment, then followed with the lunchbox in her arms.
They went upstairs one after the other and ran into the elderly couple from the opposite apartment coming down for a walk. The couple greeted them warmly, "Is this your wife? She's really beautiful!"
Isabella was puzzled.
Frederick politely responded, "She's not."
"Oh? Then who is she?"
"The babysitter."
The elderly couple felt a bit awkward and went downstairs, still smiling.
Isabella could still hear their conversation,
"Why aren't they a couple? They look like a perfect match."
"There are plenty of good matches, but that doesn't mean they're all meant to be together."
"You know nothing. They are definitely a match made in heaven, arranged by God, inseparable."
Isabella stayed quiet.
"Come in." Frederick had already reached the door and opened it.
Isabella went upstairs and couldn't help but mutter, "I'm not your babysitter."
"Don't want to be a babysitter? Want to be my wife?"
Isabella was stunned, her face turning red, "Stop talking nonsense!"
Frederick was indifferent, "It's better if you don't. I'm not interested in you."
He then went inside.
Isabella pursed her lips, her eyes wide.
Not interested in her? He said he wasn't interested in her?
Did he think she was interested in him?
Isabella was furious and wanted to throw the lunchbox at his head.
But thinking about the money, she held back.
She changed into slippers after entering and placed the lunchbox on the dining table.
She didn't even take off her coat, clearly not planning to stay long.
She came in to get something, but once inside, she couldn't help but look towards Dennis's room.
"Can I go in and see Dennis?" she asked.
She hadn't seen him recently and missed him.
"Sure," Frederick agreed readily.
Isabella quickly walked towards Dennis's room, her hand on the doorknob, then turned back to ask, "Are you sure Dennis isn't awake?"
She didn't want to upset Dennis because if he refused to eat the food she made, she would have no chance to get close to him in the future.
Frederick glanced at the clock on the wall, "He'll wake up in fifteen minutes."
Hearing this, Isabella hurried up to open the door and went in.
The room was dark. She tiptoed over, and seeing Dennis's face, her heart skipped a beat.
Dennis looked so much like Hugo and Justin!
He reminded her of Hugo and Justin.
Dennis was lying flat, the blanket pulled up to his chest, sleeping soundly.
Isabella carefully sat down and couldn't help but touch his little face.
Such a beautiful and cute Dennis, how could his mother bear to abandon him?
What was she thinking?
If she were his mother, she would never abandon him, even if she didn't like the cold Eric and had to leave, she would find a way to take Dennis with her!
Isabella moved her hand away from his cheek.
Suddenly, Dennis grabbed her wrist, "Mommy!"
Isabella was stunned.
Frederick, standing at the door, also frowned!
Both of them froze, not daring to move or make a sound, even their breathing became cautious.
The next second, Dennis opened his eyes and stared at Isabella!
Isabella was terrified, holding her breath, not daring to make a sound, afraid that Dennis would throw a tantrum.
Dennis stared at her for a while, then quickly sat up, eyes full of joy, "Mommy?"
Isabella was shocked.
"It's really Mommy! Mommy, when did you come back? Did you just come back because you missed me? You won't leave again, right? You'll stay with Dennis, right?"
Isabella didn't speak.
She widened her eyes, looking helplessly at Dennis, then quickly turned to Frederick for help, asking him what to do.
Frederick was also caught off guard by this sudden situation. He walked to the bedside in a few steps, "Dennis."
Dennis was very excited, "Daddy, Mommy is back. Look, it's Mommy! It's the Mommy I've been longing for! Mommy is back! Mommy is back!"
Seeing Dennis's excited expression, Frederick was lost in thought.
How long had it been since Dennis smiled like this?
How long had it been since his Dennis was this happy?
"Daddy, why aren't you happy? My Mommy is also your wife. She's back! She won't leave us again! We won't have to endure loneliness anymore. Mommy is back!"
Seeing his state, Frederick became a bit panicked.
After all, the last time he saw Isabella, he had thrown a big tantrum.
Why did he now mistake her for Mommy this time?
Was Dennis's obsession with his Mommy getting deeper?
Was his condition getting worse?
Frederick frowned, full of worry, "Is Dennis dreaming?"
"Huh? I'm not dreaming. Can't you see Mommy? Look, look, Mommy is right here." Dennis was confused.
Frederick turned to look at Isabella.
Isabella's expression was somewhat heavy, but she had calmed down.
She stared at Dennis for a while, then said gently, "Dennis, look at me. Let's count together, okay?"
Dennis agreed, "Okay, Dennis will listen to Mommy!"
"One, two, three, four, five..." Isabella snapped her fingers, then Dennis fell back onto the bed.
"Dennis!" Frederick was about to step forward but saw Isabella's state and held back.
He knew Isabella had hypnotized Dennis.
Like other pediatric psychologists, she had always wanted to find an opportunity to enter Dennis's mental world.
But there had never been a chance. Dennis was too vigilant, too sensitive and distant, allowing no one to get close.
This was an opportunity.
Frederick didn't dare to disturb them, nor did he leave. He stayed to accompany them.
He had heard that the scenes in the mental world of children with psychological disorders could reflect their inner thoughts and physical conditions.
He wanted to see what Dennis's mental world was like.
