Chapter 132 The Masked Man Appears Again
The sky was still pitch black, the streetlights outside barely glowing, and everything was wrapped in darkness.
Hugo glanced around but saw no trace of the mysterious figure.
He was sure it was the masked guy he and Justin had run into before!
Earlier, when he was downstairs, the masked man had hidden in the shadows, laughing at him with this creepy chuckle!
It was clear the guy knew Hugo was coming!
Hugo had been digging into this for days without any leads, and he didn't expect the masked man to pop up outside Dennis's place today.
He was here to handle stuff for Dennis’s family commemoration event tomorrow.
Before coming, Hugo knew there were bodyguards around the area. To avoid raising any red flags with Frederick's bodyguards, he had a plan all set.
But the plan turned out to be pointless!
Because the masked man had already grabbed the bodyguards' attention, it was like he was helping Hugo by distracting them on purpose.
What’s the masked man’s deal?
Could he have known Hugo's plan and that Hugo would pretend to be Dennis at the event tomorrow?
On one hand, he pushed Hugo and Justin to kill, and on the other, he helped Hugo stay undercover to get close to Frederick. What was his game?!
And that dead cat, just like Justin described, killed by having its neck twisted.
So, the psycho in the neighborhood Justin mentioned was actually the masked man who knew where they lived and had their info.
Who the heck was he?
Why was he getting close to them, and what was his endgame?!
Hugo stood by the window for a long time, then closed the curtains and sat at Dennis's desk, opening Dennis's computer.
He planned to use Dennis's computer to dig up some info, but as soon as he turned it on, he noticed something off.
Dennis's computer was password-protected and had security barriers.
That wasn’t the main issue; the main issue was that Hugo tried to hack it but couldn’t!
He was 'Always IsaBabe,' a top-notch hacker, and he couldn’t crack Dennis's password!
What does that mean?
Hugo furrowed his brows and looked in Dennis's direction.
Meanwhile, in the living room.
As soon as Frederick saw Isabella come out of Dennis's room, he quickly asked, "Did Dennis say anything?"
Isabella played dumb, replying, "No."
"Nothing at all?" Frederick pressed.
"Yep."
Isabella headed to the kitchen to make breakfast, and Frederick followed her, asking, "Elliot said he saw a dead cat downstairs tonight. Didn’t he mention it to you?"
"A dead cat? No, he didn’t!" She answered.
Hugo indeed hadn’t mentioned it.
Frederick frowned, "Did he tell you why he suddenly went downstairs?"
"Didn’t you ask him? He said he didn’t know." Isabella replied, getting annoyed.
"Why did he suddenly go downstairs?"
"I don’t know!"
"Can’t you get into his head and see?" Frederick’s questions got more ridiculous.
Isabella tied her apron and turned around, snapping, "If you want to know something, ask Dennis yourself! Don’t ask me; I don’t know anything!"
Then she suddenly remembered Hugo was in the room and quickly changed her tone, "Don’t ask Dennis either; he’s resting! He’s in a bad mood and doesn’t want to talk!"
Frederick immediately asked, "Why is he in a bad mood?"
"I don’t know!"
"Didn’t you notice he was in a bad mood?"
"I did, but he’s only in a bad mood when he sees you. He’s fine when he sees me. Who knows what you did to upset him? Instead of grilling me, you should think about what you did."
Frederick went quiet.
Elliot came back from outside, looking serious. "Eric, the family called and said you've been dodging their calls."
He handed his phone to Frederick, saying, "They're still on the line."
Frederick frowned, took the phone, and headed to the study.
Nicholas asked, "Is something up? You've been ignoring calls."
"Nope."
"Alright. Just wanted to confirm the details for today's family memorial event. Is Dennis cool with it?"
Frederick frowned deeper, feeling annoyed. He wasn't sure if Dennis was okay!
His mind was elsewhere!
"Your silence means you agree. The family memorial event is important. You and Dennis are the current and future heads of the family. Don't be late; be on time."
"Got it," Frederick said coldly and hung up.
He tossed the phone back to Elliot and lit a cigarette.
Elliot put away the phone and cautiously said, "Dennis and the family memorial event are the priorities today. We can deal with the mysterious man later. I'll let you know immediately if there's any news about him. The surveillance issue is already being handled urgently."
Frederick took a deep drag on his cigarette, saying, "Did you see the cat?"
"Yeah, its neck was twisted. It was a ruthless person."
Frederick's face darkened. A ruthless person suddenly showing up outside their house and staring at Dennis's window with a creepy grin was not a good sign!
"Find him, no matter what it takes!" Frederick said coldly.
"I understand. There's one more thing. Ms. Beniere said she wants to go to the cemetery with us. If she goes, won't she find out who you are?" Elliot asked worriedly.
Frederick replied coldly, "She won't know."
"Huh? Why?"
"She's too dumb!"
Elliot fell silent.
Isabella indeed didn't realize it, just as Frederick had said.
She followed them all the way to the Valdemar family's private cemetery but still couldn't figure out Frederick's identity.
She was anxious the whole way, worried that Frederick would discover Hugo.
But when they arrived at the cemetery, her attention shifted.
At the entrance of the cemetery stood a giant stone monument with large letters engraved on it: Valdemar Group Family.
Isabella sat in the car, looking at the monument through the window, and remarked, "Did your family produce some big shot?"
Frederick pursed his lips and ignored her, annoyed by her lack of intelligence.
In all of Teronica, who else but the wealthiest Valdemar family could claim this place as a private cemetery?
And with such a large 'Valdemar,' how many wealthy and powerful Valdemar families are there in Teronica?
Anyone with a bit of brains could figure it out, yet she remained clueless.
How did she grow up with such low intelligence?
Elliot, who was driving, couldn't help but twitch his mouth. Just as Frederick said, Isabella didn't suspect his identity!
Such an obvious thing, her intelligence was indeed worrisome.
Hugo also glanced at his clueless mom, unsure how to respond.
The car continued up the mountain, surrounded by rare trees.
Rare means scarce, and scarce means valuable.
A single rare tree could cost tens of thousands of dollars, with some reaching hundreds of thousands or even millions. The entire mountainside filled with such rare species must be worth an unimaginable fortune!
Each tree had wind chimes and prayer ribbons hanging from it, adding a sense of ceremony.
They arrived at a large parking lot halfway up the mountain because there was no more road for cars. They had to park there.
From there, they had to walk up.
The Valdemar family's cemetery was on the mountain.
The Valdemar family members had all arrived, filling the parking lot with luxury cars.
