Chapter 209 Coaxing

Upstairs, the family of three did not discuss Alison. Isabella chatted with Dennis for a while, and after coaxing him to sleep, she went to the bathroom to wash up.

Frederick reclined on the living room sofa, his long legs crossed elegantly, eyes half-closed as he gazed toward the bathroom with the look of a cunning wolf eyeing a helpless lamb.

Today, when he met with Douglas, there were a few things Douglas said that he completely agreed with. Douglas said, "Isabella is clearly not smart, and on top of that, she's stubborn!

"With someone like her, if she didn't have any backing, you could easily subdue her in no time. After all, no matter how stubborn she is, she can't escape your grasp!

"But the problem now is that she has backing! Dennis likes her so much that if she cries, Dennis will cause trouble for you!

"Besides, you're already suspecting that she might be the person you're looking for, so you definitely can't bear to upset her.

‘’So, the best way to deal with her now is to coax and deceive her!

"Don't confront her directly; use some strategy. You just want a few strands of her hair for a paternity test, not to make her bald. With a little bit of thought, you can succeed.

With her intelligence, do you think she can outsmart you? Forget about tricking her into giving you a few strands of hair; you could even trick her into sleeping with you, no problem, right?"

Tricking her into sleeping with him was out of the question; he just wanted a few strands of her hair. So, he decided to take Douglas's advice and coax her!

In the bathroom, Isabella finished washing up and dried her hair until it was about eighty percent dry. She even deliberately collected all the hair that had fallen out before leaving the bathroom. As soon as she came out, she saw Frederick sitting on the living room sofa.

He had already changed out of his suit, trousers, and shirt, and was now wearing a dark blue round-neck loungewear. With the change of clothes, he seemed to have lost some of his sharp edges, becoming much more rounded and gentle.

"Come here," he suddenly said.

Isabella, wearing conservative cotton pajamas and with her long hair down, stood at the bathroom door, looking around. "Are you talking to me?"

Frederick pursed his lips and couldn't help but mock her silly look, "It's just you and me in the house right now. If I'm not talking to you, who am I talking to? A ghost?"

Isabella's mouth twitched, saying unhappily, "Don't say that at night. What do you want? Just say it."

Frederick glanced at the wine and glasses in front of him, signaling her to come over and drink.

Isabella looked at him, puzzled and wary. "What for?"

"To drink."

"I know! I'm asking why you want to drink?"

Frederick said, "To apologize for my past attitude towards you and to thank you for what you've done for Dennis."

Isabella stood still as she remarked, "Let's not bring up the past. As long as you don't provoke me in the future, I won't provoke you either. As for what I've done for Dennis, I did it willingly; you don't need to thank me."

"Alright, then let's drink to us getting along peacefully from now on," said Frederick.

Frederick's attitude was sincere, and Isabella blinked. If they could really get along peacefully, that would be great!

She tentatively asked, "So, you don't suspect me anymore?"

Frederick shot back, "Do you?"

Isabella quickly replied, "Of course not!"

Frederick narrowed his eyes, paused for a couple of seconds, and then said, "I believe you."

Isabella was surprised。 "You believe me?"

"Yeah, I believe you."

"You believe I'm not the person you're looking for?"

"Yeah."

"And you don't plan to do a paternity test anymore?"

"Yeah."

Isabella was curious. "Why? Why did you suddenly believe me? You were still talking about the paternity test this afternoon."

Frederick said, "You seem kind and simple, not like someone who would lie."

However, Isabella felt like he was implying she wasn't kind or simple!

Frederick added, "Stop daydreaming, come over and drink."

Isabella pouted, "You drink by yourself. I'm going to bed." She didn't want to drink with him; they weren't friends, so why drink together?

"You're sleeping in my room tonight," Frederick suddenly said.

Isabella was stunned and turned to look at him, full of vigilance. "What do you mean?"

Frederick was straightforward. "I'll sleep in the study, and you sleep in the bedroom. You're a girl; you shouldn't be wronged."

Isabella was suspicious as she asked, "Are you concerned about me?"

"Sort of."

Isabella couldn't understand. "Didn't you say you don't suspect me anymore?"

If he didn't suspect her, why was he being nice to her?

Frederick explained, "I just said we should get along peacefully. I'm a man; I should let you have the room."

Isabella blinked a few times and said, "Alright," coincidentally, she didn't want to sleep on the sofa either! "Thanks." She didn't hold back and walked straight to Frederick's bedroom.

Frederick called her back, "Are you still mad? Don't want to make peace with me?"

"Huh?"

"If you're not mad anymore, then come over and have a drink. I prepared this especially."

Isabella's bright eyes rolled around, and after a moment of hesitation, she walked over. She took the glass Frederick handed her. "Getting along peacefully, you have to keep your word!"

She tilted her head back and downed it in one go. She had just taken a bath, looking simple, clean, and pretty. The fresh scent of body wash and shampoo mixed with a hint of herbal fragrance filled the air, reaching Frederick's nose.

He looked at her, slightly lost in thought. She had a bit of wine at dinner, and now she drank a whole glass, making her fair skin flush. If she really was the person he had been looking for, then God had truly blessed him! Everyone loves beauty!

After finishing the wine, Isabella mumbled, "A real man keeps his word. From now on, let's get along! No one bullies anyone; no one provokes anyone!"

Frederick snapped out of his thoughts, saw her empty glass, and poured her another.

Isabella glared. "I've already had one!"

Frederick said gently, "That one was for getting along peacefully; this one is for harmonious coexistence."

Isabella didn't really want to drink anymore, but thinking about harmonious coexistence, she took the glass and drank it.

And then...

"This one is for Dennis's speedy recovery."

"This one is for your child to grow up healthy and happy."

"This one is for your friend Freya to have a life of peace and joy."

"This one is for all the people you care about to be healthy."

Isabella drank one glass after another. Then she started hiccuping."I'm full; I can't drink anymore! I won't drink even if you kill me!"

Frederick refilled her glass again as he said, "This one is for you to get rich soon."

Get rich? Alright, this one she had to drink!
