Chapter 147 He Really Wanted to Say, "You Are My Mommy!"
Frederick scrunched up his face and said, "It's about Dennis's mom."
"Dennis's mom?" Isabella asked, puzzled.
"Yeah."
"What did you guys talk about?"
"How he was born."
"And then?"
"He probably got mad at me."
Isabella was getting frustrated. He was taking forever to get to the point.
"Can you just spit it out? What did you say to him? What was the conversation about? Why did he get mad at you?" Isabella demanded, her patience wearing thin.
Frederick furrowed his brows again, staying quiet for a few more seconds before finally speaking.
"I don't know Dennis's mom. Back then, I had an accident, and I ended up sleeping with her by mistake, which led to Dennis."
Isabella was stunned. "You don't know her? It was a mistake?"
"I was drugged and couldn't control myself."
Isabella's expression shifted rapidly. "Are you saying you forced Dennis's mom?"
"Yeah."
Isabella held her breath, her eyes wide with shock.
He forced her, and had Hugo and Justin. Then he forced Dennis's mom, and had Dennis? Does he make a habit of forcing women?
No matter the circumstances, forcing a woman is terrible. He's a total jerk!
Isabella clenched her fists, trying to keep her anger in check. "You did that to his mom, of course, he'd be mad at you. No wonder he was so emotional today! Dennis loves his mom a lot, but you hurt her! Even if he loves you, he'd still be mad. I can't help you with this; you're on your own!"
Isabella finished speaking and stormed back to Dennis's room without looking back.
She had wanted to understand why Dennis was acting so strange, but she never expected to hear this!
She didn't think of herself as connected to Dennis's mom; she just instinctively thought Dennis's mom, like her, was a victim!
So she was even angrier at Frederick!
Once could be an accident, but how do you explain twice?
And who knew, maybe there was a third, fourth, fifth time!
He treated her like this, treated Dennis's mom like this, and probably other women too!
He's a total jerk! A scumbag!
"Mommy," Dennis suddenly called out in his sleep, his eyes closed.
Isabella's heart broke for him. She walked to his bedside and gently stroked his cheek, "Mommy's here, Dennis. Sleep well, Mommy's with you."
Dennis seemed to hear her, turned over, and hugged her arm, holding it as he slept.
Isabella looked at his face, so similar to Hugo's and Justin's, and felt another wave of heartache.
She thought Dennis's mom left because she had a falling out with Frederick, like many divorcing couples, but never imagined he forced her to have Dennis.
If he forced Dennis's mom, how could she be happy? How could she willingly stay with him? The answer is definitely no!
No wonder Dennis's mom left!
Just like she did back then, even if she wasn't married, she wouldn't stay with someone who forced her into a relationship!
Dennis's mom's departure was his fault, his mistake, so the pain Dennis is suffering now is a consequence of his actions!
He wronged Dennis's mom, and he wronged Dennis too!
Isabella was already very resistant to him, and now she loathed him even more!
He didn't just ruin her; he also ruined Dennis's mom! He's simply a bastard!
Isabella silently cursed him for what felt like forever. Her arm was starting to go numb, and she tried to pull it out, but Dennis just hugged tighter.
"Mommy, don't go," he mumbled.
Isabella stayed quiet.
Not wanting to wake him, she whispered a few comforting words and then lay down next to his bed to sleep.
The next morning.
When she woke up, Dennis was staring at her with his big, bright eyes.
Seeing her awake, Dennis looked both surprised and delighted, with a hint of shyness.
His lips moved but no sound came out, his long eyelashes fluttered, and his little face turned red.
Isabella was curious.
Dennis was usually so aloof; she had never seen him look so shy.
She sat up and said, "Dennis?"
Dennis also sat up and replied in his sweet, childlike voice, "Yeah."
They stared at each other for a few seconds. Just as Isabella was about to say something, Dennis suddenly jumped out of bed.
He rummaged through the room and brought her a bunch of stuff.
There were limited edition toy models, small ornaments from his desk, his favorite antique wind chime, and various rare trinkets Frederick had given him.
Isabella was curious and asked, "For me?"
Dennis nodded eagerly.
Isabella was really surprised.
Giving gifts is a way of showing affection, and Dennis was trying to please her. But why?
They had known each other for a while, and although Dennis didn't dislike her, he had never gone out of his way to please her.
Seeing Isabella's surprised look but saying nothing, Dennis got a bit uneasy and cautiously said, "This is all I have for now. If you don't like them, I'll buy you something else. Just tell me what you like."
Isabella blinked in surprise. Not only was he trying to please her, but he was also putting in a lot of effort.
She thought for a moment and said, "I don't dislike them. I like whatever Dennis gives me. Thank you, Dennis. I'll gladly accept them."
Hearing this, a flash of joy appeared in Dennis's eyes, and he nodded repeatedly.
Thinking about last night, Isabella tentatively asked, "Did you miss Mommy again last night?"
Dennis frowned slightly and looked at her, "I always miss her."
His pitiful eyes made Isabella's heart ache again. She put down the gifts Dennis had given her and reached out to hug him, saying, "You miss your mommy, and she surely misses you too. If she has the chance, she will definitely come back to see you."
Dennis's heart pounded. He wanted to hug Isabella back but felt too shy.
He wanted to say, "Mommy is already back; you are Mommy!"
But he didn't dare to say it directly. He was afraid of scaring Isabella away.
He wasn't a healthy child, and he hadn't treated her well before. He feared that if he directly acknowledged her, Isabella would disappear again because she didn't like him.
Isabella knew nothing. She only knew that Dennis's emotions were stable today, unlike the agitation of last night.
Today, he was less cold and irritable and more nervous and cautious.
Isabella didn't think much and asked again, "Feeling better today?"
"Yeah!" he answered.
Isabella remarked softly, "That's good. Kids should be happy every day. Since you're awake, go wash up. I'll make breakfast. I'll leave these gifts here and take them when I leave."
"Yeah!"
Isabella smiled at him and got up to leave, with Dennis trailing close behind.
Isabella went to the bathroom to wash up, and Dennis followed to brush his teeth and wash his face. Then, she went to the kitchen with Dennis closely following, staying by her side the entire time.
