Chapter 84 Did Frederick Want to Become a Live-in Son-in-Law?

Douglas jumped right into flattery, "Ms. Beniere, honestly, you're the most perfect woman I've ever seen. You're not just beautiful, you're also super understanding. I really dig women like you."

Isabella shot back quickly, "Don't like me."

Seeing Isabella's wary and disdainful look, Douglas felt a bit speechless. Tons of girls were into him, but he knew Isabella was out of reach. First, because Lily wouldn't allow it, and second, because Isabella was Frederick's.

Douglas tried to clarify, "I mean, I really admire women like you. Don't worry, with Lily around, I wouldn't dare make a move on you."

Isabella's lips twitched. "I reported today's incident to the cops. They just came to take a statement. I hope you won't cover for her."

She was worried Douglas might cover for Susan, letting her get away with it.

Douglas quickly assured her, "Don't worry, I'll handle it. I definitely won't cover for her."

"Okay."

The room fell into an awkward silence. Isabella was thinking about how to bring up Frederick, while Douglas was wondering how to tell her that Dennis wanted bagels.

"Um..." They both started at the same time.

Douglas quickly said, "You go first."

Isabella didn't hold back. "I heard you know Frederick."

"Huh?" Douglas was puzzled. They knew each other, and Isabella had seen them together before. What was she getting at?

"I want to meet him. Can you help me set it up?" Isabella asked.

Douglas was even more confused. 'Didn't they just meet? Elliot said she didn't want to see Frederick. Why the change?'

Seeing Douglas's confused look, Isabella thought it was because she mentioned Frederick, and he was overthinking it.

She quickly explained, "Don't get me wrong, I don't like him. I gotta talk to him about something big, but I can't get through 'cause of his status.. I heard you know him well, so I wanted to ask for your help."

Douglas was silent, thinking, 'So she really doesn't know Frederick's identity?'

Douglas got curious. "Do you know the handsome guy who brought you to the hospital?"

"Dennis' father?"

"Yeah."

Isabella frowned. "I didn't know him before, just met him recently. His name is Eric. The person I'm looking for is Frederick."

Douglas was speechless.

Frederick was clearly hiding his identity, and Douglas didn't dare expose it, so he asked, "What do you need to see Frederick for?"

"Personal matter, can't really talk about it."

She initially wanted to tell Douglas the truth and ask him to help find Frederick for a divorce. But after thinking it over, she felt it was inappropriate. The secret marriage and confidentiality agreement forced her to keep it under wraps.

If Douglas could help her set up a meeting with Frederick, that would be enough. She was confident she could persuade Frederick to divorce once they met.

Douglas thought for a few seconds. "Alright, I'll keep an eye on this. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news."

"Okay, thanks in advance."

"You're welcome. By the way, I also have a favor to ask. Dennis said he wants to eat your bagels again. Can you make another batch?"

Isabella was taken aback. "Dennis?"

Douglas felt a bit awkward. "Eric was supposed to ask you, but since you don't want to see him, I came instead. Don't think about Eric, just think about Dennis. Although Eric is a jerk, Dennis is a good kid. Dennis is quite pitiful, with no one caring for him except his biological mother. It's really surprising that he asked for food this time. It's been so many years, and this is the first time Dennis has asked for something, so can you help? I know it's tacky to talk about money, but if you're really upset, you can ask Eric for money. Just extort him as much as you want, consider it venting."

Isabella replied, "I'm not so greedy as to take advantage of a bankrupt person."

"Bankrupt?" Douglas was shocked by her words.

"Yes, I know Eric is bankrupt now. I'm helping Dennis, not for money, just for him."

As soon as Isabella finished speaking, her phone rang. It was Freya calling.

Isabella glanced at Douglas and said, "I'll make food for Dennis. I'll contact you when it's ready. If there's nothing else, you can leave now."

Douglas snapped back to reality. "Okay, don't worry, I'll keep the matter of arranging a meeting with Frederick in mind."

"Thank you."

Douglas squinted his eyes and smiled, then left.

As soon as Douglas went downstairs, he saw Frederick sitting in the car smoking.

Douglas opened the car door and got in, not giving Frederick a chance to speak, and said first, "Isabella has said she'll make food for Dennis later."

Frederick gave him a meaningful look and took a puff of his cigarette. Then he quietly exhaled. He was really worried Isabella would ignore Dennis out of anger.

Douglas was now excited. "I heard you changed your name and went bankrupt?"

Frederick flicked the ash and asked, "Did you tell her my identity?"

"I didn't tell her, so don't you owe me a meal?"

Frederick pursed his lips and gave him a sidelong glance, ignoring him.

Douglas laughed and said, "I won't make you treat me to a meal. It's enough if Susan's matter is resolved. She caused trouble, I helped you hide your identity, and I shamelessly asked Isabella to make food for Dennis, so we're even."

Frederick remained aloof and didn't respond.

Douglas asked, "What are you thinking? Hiding your identity is one thing, but telling Isabella you're bankrupt? Are you trying to gain sympathy to become a live-in son-in-law? But I heard Isabella's in a tough spot. She's got no power or influence and has three sons to support. She doesn't have extra money to help you out."

Frederick retorted, "Don't talk nonsense."
