Chapter 23 Danger at the Hospital

Frederick sat by Dennis's bedside, holding his hand tightly.

Elijah, trying to comfort Frederick, said, "Don't worry too much about Dennis. At least he's not in immediate danger."

Frederick, not seeing Isabella, asked, "Where is she?"

Elijah replied, "She had something urgent to attend to, so she left."

Frederick looked at Elijah, questioning her departure.

Elijah explained, "She's free to come and go. We can't confine her. Besides, we need her help. If we were to restrict her, she would be upset. Can we afford to have her treat Dennis while she's angry?"

A few days ago, Frederick would have been indifferent, but now he wasn't sure if Isabella was Dennis's biological mother or if she could help him overcome his trauma.

So, Frederick's emotions were complex.

"I'm going out for a smoke," Frederick said, leaving the ward.

Elijah watched in surprise.

Frederick used to stay with Dennis, even if he wanted to smoke. But today, Frederick went out to smoke.

Elijah thought Frederick seemed agitated.

After leaving the hospital, Isabella took a taxi to the Rose Garden.

Once in the car, she calmed down and sent a prescription to Elijah.

She then tried to call the person she had sent a message to, but no one answered.

Isabella called Frederick's subordinate directly. Upon hearing that Frederick was on a business trip abroad, Isabella immediately became angry.

"Don't lie to me! I know he's in Teronica right now!"

Not getting a response, Isabella knew the information was true.

Isabella was a little angry and thought, 'I just want a divorce from Frederick. Why is he avoiding me?'

'Is he afraid that I will demand his property? Ridiculous!'

"Tell him I'm on my way to the Rose Garden. If he doesn't want me to keep bothering him, he should go to the Rose Garden now and sign the divorce agreement. If he doesn't, I'll keep harassing him!"

"Also, tell him I just want a simple divorce! I won't take his money. I won't ask for any compensation. Once I'm divorced from him, I'll disappear from his life and never disturb him again."

Isabella hung up the phone, frowning.

Isabella thought, 'He actually lied to me! This man is ridiculous!'

Frederick quickly received the message.

He stood in the smoking area at the end of the corridor, feeling agitated.

"Who told her I'm still in Teronica?"

Elliot said, "She didn't say. She only said that if you refuse to divorce her, she will keep bothering you. She also said she just wants a divorce. She doesn't want a penny and won't ask for compensation. She also said that after she divorces you, she will disappear from your life and never disturb you again."

Frederick said displeasedly, "Is she threatening me?"

Elliot didn't dare to answer. After a pause, Elliot asked, "What do we do now? If you don't divorce her, will she really keep bothering you? Or does she misunderstand that you love her?"

Frederick was annoyed and commanded, "Tell her I'll be back in a while!"

...

Isabella was greeted by the staff of the Rose Garden when she arrived.

The servant who welcomed her was new. The group of servants who had taken care of Isabella before had all been replaced.

They had accepted Alison's bribe and spread rumors that Isabella brought men home every day. Later, they resigned and disappeared for fear that their lies would be exposed.

This servant didn't know Isabella. She only let Isabella in after receiving the order.

The servant respectfully brought Isabella a cup of coffee.

"Please have some coffee. Mr. Valdemar said he'll be back soon."

"Okay. Thank you."

Isabella took the cup and placed it on the table.

She observed the decorations inside. It was the same as when she left. There was hardly any change.

However, the people here had changed.

Isabella had lived here for three years. She was the mistress of this place.

Now, Isabella was nothing.

Isabella had thought she could live here for a lifetime and even envisioned a happy life with Frederick and their children when they grew old.

Everything had changed. Isabella found life to be dramatic.

Isabella felt sad. She looked away and took a few sips of coffee. She quietly waited for Frederick to come back and sign the divorce agreement.

Half an hour later, Frederick drove back to the Rose Garden.

Frederick had only been to this place once. It was on his first day back when he came here to divorce his nominal wife.

Later, Frederick never came here again.

After parking the car, Frederick opened the door and got out.

Just as he steadied himself, his phone rang. It was Elijah.

"Frederick, Uncle Bruce is at the hospital. He wants to see you."

Frederick knew that Bruce wanted to see him because he had withdrawn his ten-million-dollar investment.

Frederick responded coldly, "Tell him I'm busy. And remind him not to be so money-minded. He should take some time to discipline his daughter."

Frederick thought, 'Since I've withdrawn my investment, Bruce won't let me invest again.'

'Alison did help me, but I won't always pamper her!'

Frederick hung up the phone and walked towards the main building.

The maid said, "Mr. Valdemar, Mrs. Valdemar is waiting for you in the room."

"I know."

Hearing the noise, Isabella knew Frederick had returned. She suddenly became nervous.

Isabella thought, 'I finally get to see him!'

'I've been married to him for two years, but I've been away for six years. So it's been a total of eight years!'

'I've been married to him for eight years, but I've never seen him.'

'Even if he humiliates me, I won't argue back. I just hope he's willing to divorce me!'

However, when Frederick reached the door, his phone rang again.

It was Bruce. Frederick frowned and answered the call. Before Frederick could speak, he suddenly heard Alison's voice.

"Eric, did you withdraw your investment in the Walter family because of me? My dad said I made you unhappy. I'm really scared because of what you did."

"I never thought of making you angry. You know I like you. Back then, I proposed to marry you after I saved Dennis. But I couldn't marry you because you were already married."

"I really like you. I really want to marry you. I really don't want to make you angry. You can tell me directly where I went wrong. I..."

Frederick was annoyed and interrupted her.

"I hate it when people lie to me. Your begging is useless. You should reflect on yourself."

Frederick hung up the phone directly.

The maid stepped forward to open the door. Frederick suddenly said, "Wait."

Frederick thought, 'This call from Alison reminded me.'

'The results of tomorrow's test will come out. If I get divorced today, but I find out that Isabella is not Dennis's biological mother, I will be single again.'

'Then, if Alison forces me to marry her, what should I do?'

'I won't pamper Alison. But I did say that I would marry Alison if I didn't get married.'

'As a gentleman, I must keep my promise. What should I do if Alison forces me to marry her after I become single again?'

'I can't get divorced now.'

'After knowing the results of the paternity test between Dennis and Isabella tomorrow, I will reconsider whether I want to get divorced.'

"Tell her I have something urgent to deal with. I can't divorce her for the time being. I will contact her tomorrow."

Frederick turned and walked away.

Hearing the sound of the engine in the yard, Isabella was puzzled and thought, 'Why did he start the car again?'

'Oh no! He's trying to escape!'

Isabella suddenly stood up and walked out.
