Chapter 86 Frederick Went Out Shopping
Isabella had just hung up on Freya when her phone buzzed again. It was Lily.
"Hey, I just finished shopping and was heading to the hospital, but Douglas told me you got discharged," Lily said.
Isabella chuckled, "Yeah, I just got out. No need to come over, I'm fine. Just a little shaken up, but all good now."
Lily sighed, "I just found out about Susan. She's not only bold but also has zero remorse! That mall incident, Douglas let it slide because she was his girlfriend back then, just considered it breakup compensation. But who knew she'd be so ungrateful! If I had known, I wouldn't have let her off that day! Thank goodness you're okay."
Isabella reassured her, "I'm fine, it's all in the past."
Lily continued, "I just gave Douglas a piece of my mind. How could he date someone like her? Now look at the mess! I haven't seen him yet, but when I do, he's getting an earful."
Isabella explained, "This wasn't something Douglas could have predicted. She's his ex now. It's not his fault."
"Not his fault? This whole mess is on him! If he hadn't dated Susan, the mall thing wouldn't have happened, and neither would today!" Lily's anger was palpable.
Isabella tried to calm her down, "Douglas already came to apologize today, and he helped me a lot. I'm really grateful to him now."
"He should apologize! And if you have any problems, just go to him. If he dares not help you, I'll deal with him!"
Isabella smiled, "Okay."
They chatted for a bit, made plans to meet up another day, and then hung up.
Isabella felt warm inside. Lily was really good to her, almost like a guardian angel.
If it weren't for Lily, Douglas might not have agreed so readily.
Douglas humbly came to the hospital to apologize to her, and she felt it was because of Lily today, clearly because he was afraid of Lily scolding him.
That was what Isabella thought, but actually, it wasn't. Douglas came to see her today mostly because of Frederick.
Frederick's shout at the abandoned building was almost terrifying!
If Douglas didn't make her happy, Frederick definitely wouldn't let him off.
Putting away her phone, Isabella looked around. It had been over twenty minutes, and she still couldn't hail a cab.
It was rush hour, and the hospital was crowded, making it hard to get a cab.
Isabella checked the distance on her navigation app. It wasn't too far from here to the supermarket, just about twenty minutes by bike.
So, without hesitation, Isabella walked a few steps forward and rented a shared bike.
She pedaled the shared bike onto the road.
Elliot was dumbfounded. "Frederick, should we keep following her?"
Frederick replied, "Follow her."
Elliot was speechless.
How to follow?
If Isabella were driving a sports car, Elliot wouldn't be worried.
But Isabella was riding a bike. How to follow her?
How to control the throttle?
If he pressed too hard, he'd overtake her. If too light, the car might not move.
And even if it moved, it would be too easy to be noticed!
Elliot thought for a while and then turned to say, "Frederick, why don't you also rent a shared bike? It's the safest way. With a mask on, she won't recognize you. You can ride slowly and follow her. Otherwise, if I follow her in the car, she'll definitely notice."
Frederick's face turned stormy. "Quit yapping and get moving."
Elliot groaned inwardly but had no choice but to start the car.
Isabella was cruising along in the bike lane, while Elliot was creeping along in his luxury car, barely moving in the car lane.
Soon enough, the cars behind him started honking like crazy.
The speed was slower than a snail!
The honking caught Isabella's attention. At a red light, she turned to look.
Elliot quickly ducked his head, and even Frederick instinctively turned his face away, afraid Isabella would spot him.
Luckily, Isabella just glanced and then the light turned green. She kept on riding.
Elliot tried again, "Frederick, this really isn't working! Isabella's not dumb. She'll definitely notice us. Not only will it blow your cover that you're not bankrupt and driving a luxury car, but it'll also piss her off. She gets mad just seeing you now. If she finds out you're tailing her, she'll be even angrier! What if she gets so mad she stops cooking for Dennis? Either you listen to me and follow her on a bike, or we just stop following her."
Frederick's face darkened as he stayed silent for a moment, then he opened the car door and got out.
By now, a traffic jam had formed behind their car.
Frederick, dressed in an expensive custom suit, wearing sunglasses and a mask, walked to the roadside under everyone's gaze and unlocked a shared bike.
Everyone watched as he, with his long legs, rode the bike away.
People were stunned. "Is that a celebrity? Are they filming a movie?"
"I don't see any cameras. It's not a movie."
"Maybe it's a rich kid experiencing life? I saw him get out of a luxury car!"
"He doesn't look like a rich kid, more like a CEO!"
"Those legs, that body, that aura, I'm in love! I need to ride a bike too."
"Ride what? We're almost home."
"I don't care, I want to ride."
"Me too, me too."
So, a group of young girls went crazy, scrambling for shared bikes to chase after Frederick.
Elliot looked at the large group following Frederick and facepalmed. 'Do we really have to follow her today? Even if we do, does it have to be in person? Isn't Frederick the one who hates appearing in crowds the most? Today, not only does he appear, but he also rides a bike! My God, it's shocking! And why does Frederick insist on following Isabella today?' he wondered.
Elliot still didn't know Frederick's purpose for personally following Isabella!
Elliot silently took out his phone, snapped a photo, and posted it in the Facebook group chat.
Then, everyone in the group expressed their shock.
Meanwhile, Isabella had no idea she had single-handedly sparked a bike-riding craze.
She rode to the supermarket entrance, parked the bike in the designated area, and got off.
As she walked towards the supermarket, she called Freya, "Freya, are you guys here yet?"
"We're still stuck in traffic. Are you there?"
"Yeah, I biked over."
"We'll need about ten more minutes. It's cold outside, you go in first. I'll call you when we arrive."
"Okay." Hanging up, Isabella grabbed a shopping cart and entered the supermarket.
Frederick also entered the supermarket.
Wherever he went, people noticed him.
Even the janitor at the entrance couldn't help but glance at him and said with a smile, "This young man is really handsome."
Frederick's face darkened on the spot.
