Chapter 203 Bringing Dennis Home, Reunion
Today, having just reunited with her son, she wished to take Dennis home to share a reunion dinner with Hugo, Justin, and Paul, thereby maximizing their happiness.
She found an opportunity to talk to Frederick about it, “Dennis is being discharged this afternoon. I want to take him to my friend's house.”
Frederick squinted at her, waiting for her to continue.
Isabella said, “My kids are good friends with Dennis. They care about him a lot and were very worried when they heard he was sick. Now that he's fine, they want to invite him over for dinner.”
Afraid he might disagree, Isabella quickly added, “Don't worry, we won't stay overnight. It's just a meal, and I'll bring Dennis back right after.”
Frederick uttered, “Then let your kids come to my house. I'll host them.”
“No way!”
“Why not?”
“My kids wouldn't feel comfortable at your place.”
“Then I'll take them to a restaurant.”
“No, we plan to cook at home.”
Frederick stared at her for a few seconds as he spoke, “I understand. You handle it.”
Isabella quickly asked, “You agree?”
“Yeah.”
Isabella's eyes lit up with surprise. She didn't expect him to agree so readily, and suddenly, he seemed much more agreeable.
She had thought about this for a long time before asking him, afraid he would refuse. She didn't expect him to be so straightforward today!
Isabella felt touched and became much gentler. Just as she was about to say something softly to him, he suddenly asked, “What do you need to buy? I'll have someone get it in advance.”
“No, we can buy it ourselves.”
“What do your friends and kids like?”
“Huh?”
“It's my first formal visit. It's not appropriate to go empty-handed.”
Isabella was stunned as she inquired, “You're visiting?”
“Yes, I'll go with Dennis tonight.”
He said it so casually that Isabella's eyes widened instantly. She asked again, “You're going too?”
“Of course, I need to accompany Dennis.”
“No. I'll take Dennis alone, and we'll come back after dinner.”
She never intended for him to go. If he went, Hugo, Justin, and Paul would be exposed!
But Frederick looked at her calmly and said two words, “No way.”
Isabella frowned unhappily as she asked, “Why not?!”
Frederick answered, “If you want to take Dennis to your place, I must come along.”
“Why do you need to come? I can take good care of Dennis!”
Frederick didn't explain, remarking, “If you don't agree to me going, Dennis can't go either.”
“Don't you trust me?! Are you worried I can't take good care of Dennis?”
It wasn't that he was worried she couldn't take care of Dennis; he was worried others might have designs on Dennis.
Too many people wanted to harm Dennis. On his turf, he didn't need to accompany Dennis, but in an unfamiliar environment, he couldn't be at ease.
Seeing him remain silent, Isabella became anxious as she explained, “Dennis is coming to my place, not somewhere else. My friend and his three kids all like him very much. We can definitely take good care of him. You can rest assured.
"Moreover, for Dennis, tentatively interacting with new environments and people is beneficial for his psychological recovery. He has to take this step sooner or later! You can't accompany him for the rest of his life!”
Isabella's reasoning moved Frederick somewhat. Dennis did need to interact more with new environments and people.
After a few seconds of silence, Frederick turned to look in Dennis's direction. Seeing Dennis not paying attention to them, he said, “You can take Dennis alone, but we need to make a deal.”
“Huh? What deal?”
Frederick was straightforward, remarking, “I still want to do another paternity test. I need your sample.”
If she agreed, it would be better than him doing it secretly. Once the results came out, he could discuss them with her openly.
Isabella's face changed instantly, her heart in her throat as she shouted, “You still want to…”
“Don't shout; don't make a scene! I'm not forcing you; I'm just discussing it with you!”
“Didn't you promise Dennis not to investigate me anymore? A man who breaks his word is despicable!”
Frederick frowned, retorting, “I'm discussing it with you!”
“Then let me tell you, I don't agree! There's no room for discussion!”
Seeing her so resistant, Frederick frowned but didn't lose his temper or force her.
Dennis was still nearby; he wasn't foolish enough to offend her and upset Dennis.
Moreover, what if she really was the person he was looking for? If he scared her now, he would regret it later.
“Fine, if you don't agree, you don't agree. I was just asking,” saying, he acted very calm, as if he didn't care much.
Isabella took a deep breath, and after calming down, she asked him again, “Can Dennis come with me later?”
“Yes, I'll drop you off and pick you up later.”
Seeing him agree, Isabella became happy again. She remarked, “No need to pick us up. Dennis and I will take a cab back.”
Frederick glanced at her, uttering, “I'm picking you up for safety reasons.”
Isabella was taken aback and nodded. “I understand.”
In the afternoon, after completing the discharge procedures, the three of them left the hospital.
Naturally, Dennis was happy to reunite with Hugo, Justin, and Paul, so he was in a good mood.
Isabella also kept smiling, thinking about the upcoming happy moments, and she couldn't contain her joy.
Only Frederick's expression was hard to read.
Elliot drove, and the three of them sat in the back. Dennis was sandwiched between Isabella and Frederick.
Midway, the car stopped for a while, and Frederick and Elliot got out together.
Isabella thought they were going to the restroom, but when they returned, they were carrying several bags of snacks and various gifts, filling the trunk.
Isabella was surprised, asking, “Why did you buy these? You're not even going upstairs.”
Frederick said calmly, “Dennis is visiting, so I prepared some gifts on his behalf.”
Isabella was silent. To be fair, he was very considerate of Dennis.
When Hugo, Justin, and Paul went to play at other kids' houses in the neighborhood, she also liked to prepare some snacks or small toys for them to take along.
It's a small gesture from a parent. No matter what kind of person he was, he was a qualified father.
When they arrived at the neighborhood, Isabella and Dennis got out of the car. Freya had been waiting at the entrance for a while.
To prevent Frederick from going upstairs to drop them off, Isabella had contacted Freya early, asking her to wait at the entrance.
Seeing them, Freya happily ran up as she uttered, “Isabella!”
But as soon as Freya reached Isabella and saw Frederick, she froze!
