Chapter 69 Shock, Is Eleanor Dead?

Isabella was losing it.

Laura's words hit her like a ton of bricks, making her go pale and her heart race.

The doctor and nurses were stunned.

Two young nurses held onto Isabella tightly.

"Calm down, calm down. She just had a sedative and is asleep. You can't wake her."

"Wake her up! I need to ask her something important!"

"She won't wake up for a while. If you need to ask, you have to wait. Calm down, or we'll have to sedate you too."

Isabella finally calmed down.

She collapsed into a chair, staring at Laura, looking ashen.

Daniel rushed in with the breakfast he bought for Isabella.

Seeing Isabella's face and the medical staff, he was surprised.

"What happened? What's going on?"

The doctor quickly said, "Mr. Martinez, is this lady your friend?"

"Yes, she's my friend. She came to see Laura. What happened?"

"We're not sure. We came when we heard the commotion. Laura was agitated, yelling and screaming. We sedated her to prevent self-harm. But then this lady started losing it."

Daniel frowned at Isabella.

"I understand. Thanks. I'll handle it."

"Okay, come to my office later. I suspect Laura is depressed and needs further examination."

"Alright."

After the doctor and nurses left, Daniel put the breakfast on the bedside table and quickly went to Isabella.

He squatted down and said, "Isabella, don't be scared. I'm here."

Isabella snapped out of it, frowning and panting as she looked at him.

"What happened to Eleanor?"

"What? What happened to Eleanor?" Daniel asked, confused.

Isabella's eyes reddened, pointing at Laura. "Laura said, I'm Eleanor's good friend. Why didn't I die with Eleanor!"

Daniel's brow furrowed. He looked at Laura with anger and disgust, then comforted Isabella.

"Don't listen to Laura. The doctor said she's likely depressed."

"Even if she's depressed, she shouldn't say that! Tell me the truth, did Eleanor go abroad for filming, or did something happen to her?!"

"I..."

"Tell me the truth! I want the truth! Don't lie to me!"

Isabella bit her lip, trembling, tears streaming down her face.

Daniel panicked and tried to wipe her tears.

Isabella slapped his hand away, stomping her foot in frustration. "Say something! Speak!"

Daniel panted and said, "Eleanor really went for filming. Nothing happened to her! If you don't believe me, ask Eleanor's parents. She's their only daughter. If something happened, they'd know!"

Isabella panted, looking at him.

Daniel continued, "Isabella, I swear, if I'm lying, may I get hit by a car today!"

"Eleanor, nothing happened to her?"

Daniel nodded firmly, his voice strong and resolute.

"No, she just went for filming."

"Then why would Laura say that?"

Daniel frowned and sighed. "Before Eleanor went abroad, she had a falling out with Laura."

"What?"

"Eleanor didn't like Laura's boyfriend, thought he was bad news, and told Laura to break up with him. Laura got mad at Eleanor."

He continued, "To show Laura the guy's true colors, Eleanor set him up. When he showed his true self, Laura didn't blame him but had a huge fight with Eleanor. She accused Eleanor of meddling, being narrow-minded, and even called her a disgraceful actress."

Isabella frowned. "Laura is so unreasonable. Didn't you do anything?"

"I did. I almost hit her. If Eleanor hadn't stopped me, I would've slapped Laura. I told her she was ungrateful, and she cried, saying, 'What can I do? I love him. It's not that he needs me; I need him.'"

Isabella was speechless.

Daniel continued, "Laura is all about love. My aunt's family isn't well off, and Laura has a younger brother who dropped out of school early and is almost of marrying age, but they still live in their old house."

He added, "Eleanor and I knew their family was struggling, so we paid for Laura's college tuition and living expenses. But because of this, I stopped her living expenses."

"Laura was angry but didn't dare confront me, so she blamed Eleanor. I tried to explain, but she wouldn't listen and insisted on blaming Eleanor. That's why Laura cursed Eleanor and showed such hostility towards you because she knows you're Eleanor's best friend," he explained.

Isabella was silent.

Daniel said, "Eleanor is a big star, a public figure. If something really happened to her, do you think the media could keep it quiet?"

Isabella sighed, temporarily believing Daniel. He made sense. If something had happened to Eleanor, it couldn't be kept under wraps.

Finally, she felt relieved. Isabella steadied herself and looked at Laura again, frowning.

"If what you said is true, then Laura is ungrateful."

To put it bluntly, she's an ungrateful wretch!

Daniel didn't argue. Seeing Isabella's face was no longer as pale, he felt slightly relieved.

"I'm also very angry with Laura. I'm taking care of her only for my aunt's sake. I've told you before, my aunt paid for my high school tuition and living expenses. I'm grateful to her, so I take care of Laura."

Isabella frowned. "Your aunt took care of you, and you should be grateful to her, but she didn't take care of Eleanor. Eleanor doesn't owe them anything and shouldn't be cursed by them."

Isabella felt indignant for Eleanor.

What a mess!

Daniel nodded. "I'll have a good talk with Laura when she wakes up."

Isabella added, "You knew about Laura and Eleanor's relationship and still had me come to see her. From Laura's perspective, aren't you just adding fuel to the fire? What were you thinking?"
