Chapter 98 Dennis, Mommy's Back!

"Get out of here and don't ever show your face around me again."

Frederick didn't bother to say who he was talking to. He just put out his cigarette and headed straight for Dennis's hospital room.

"Frederick," Nicholas called out, but Elliot quickly stopped him, sounding pretty indifferent. "Mr. Valdermar, you should go home and rest. Frederick's in a bad mood and doesn't want to talk right now."

Nicholas frowned. "How's Dennis doing?"

"He's out of danger," Elliot replied.

Nicholas finally let out a sigh of relief, and so did Anna.

The rest of the Valdemar family had mixed reactions.

Nicholas was the only one in the whole Valdemar clan who didn't want Dennis to die. He still needed Dennis to keep the others in check.

The rest of them? They were hoping Dennis, the sole heir, would kick the bucket ASAP.

Frederick could only have one son, and Dennis was it. If Dennis died, the heir spot would be up for grabs, giving everyone's kids a shot.

The Valdemar family had more schemes than you could count.

Everyone had their own agenda.

Nicholas shot a nasty look at Anna. "Get back to the Valdemar family and kneel! Don't come out without my say-so! And stay out of the company's business for now. All your projects are mine temporarily, and I'll handle them personally!"

Anna's eyes nearly popped out of her head.

Going back was one thing, but taking away her projects was like taking her lifeline! "Dad, no! I'll go kneel, but you can't take our projects. Those projects are how we survive. If you take them, how are we supposed to live?"

"If you knew this would happen, why'd you do it in the first place? You reap what you sow!" Nicholas snorted and walked away with his cane.

The others didn't dare make a peep and quickly left the hospital with their heads down.

Anna cried her heart out.

After everyone left, Elliot frowned and gave them a cold look.

He was shocked when he got the news today. Anna had some nerve.

According to John, Anna barged in uninvited while Dennis was eating.

Dennis freaked out and had a seizure, throwing things around.

Instead of calming him down or leaving, Anna scolded Dennis for not respecting his elders and having no manners.

She even told Dennis his mom had died a tragic death!

Dennis believed her and fainted on the spot.

Luckily, Isabella was there; otherwise, Dennis might've been in real trouble.

Dennis was okay now, but if anything had happened to him, not just Frederick, but all of them wouldn't have let Anna off the hook!

They'd watched Dennis grow up. To them, he was like a son.

Elliot walked into the hospital room, looked tenderly at the still-unconscious Dennis, and whispered to Frederick, "The Valdemars have all left. I've made sure none of them can enter Sunnyvale Community from now on."

Frederick held Dennis's small hand tightly and asked, "What's Kevin Valdemar been up to lately?"

Kevin Valdemar was Anna's son, who took her surname, making him a half-Valdemar.

"I heard he's been hanging out with some rich kids and hasn't been home for a while. Some say he's been doing drugs."

"Find out for sure. If he is, notify Jared."

When Jared gets involved, it's no small matter!

Elliot got the message and nodded, "Got it!"

In the evening, Dennis woke up, and Elijah immediately called Isabella.

Isabella was thrilled to hear the news. She had just made dinner for Dennis, packed it up, and headed out.

This time, she didn't ride her bike but took a cab instead.

She was too freaked out to ride after her fall today, and the thick snow on the roads made it impossible anyway.

When she got to the hospital, Isabella didn't rush straight into Dennis's room. Instead, she stood outside the door, peeking in.

Seeing Dennis in his hospital gown, quietly sitting by the window and looking outside, she felt both comforted and heartbroken.

Elijah had told her that Dennis liked to sit by the window waiting for his mommy.

Dennis hoped he'd be the first to see his mommy when she came back and could run into her arms right away.

Isabella could picture it in her mind.

A gentle and beautiful woman suddenly appears outside the window, looks up at Dennis, and smiles while waving at him: "Dennis, Mommy's back!"

Dennis, super excited, rushes out of the room and stumbles into his mommy's arms.

What a beautiful scene. At that moment, Dennis would surely feel like the happiest kid in the world!

Sadly, why did she abandon such a lovely boy?

And does she even know that Dennis got sick from missing her too much?

If she doesn't know, that's one thing. But if she does, then she's too heartless!

Sensing movement, Frederick turned his head and saw a small head quickly retract.

A moment later, it peeked out again, sneakily.

Knowing it was her, a strange look flashed in Frederick's eyes. He got up and walked out of the room.

Seeing him, Isabella said, "I heard from Mr. Jenkins that Dennis woke up without crying or fussing, like he forgot what happened before."

"Okay."

"That's good. If he remembered, he might get upset again. I went home and made some nutritious porridge for him. You can take it in for him. He can't eat anything else right now, so porridge will have to do."

Frederick took it, hesitated for a moment, and said, "Thank you."

Isabella was stunned. Did he just say thank you?

Before she could react, Frederick added, "Wait for me; I have something to tell you."

"Huh? Oh."

Frederick took the lunchbox into the room, and Isabella continued to peek from outside.

Frederick opened the lunchbox, and the aroma wafted out, making his stomach growl embarrassingly.

He hadn't eaten all day, and the earlier worry about Dennis had drained a lot of his energy, making him very hungry.

But clearly, Isabella hadn't prepared any for him. There was just enough for Dennis.

He scooped out a bowl of porridge, stirred it, and waited until it wasn't too hot before placing it on the small table in front of Dennis, "Dennis, have some porridge."

Dennis glanced at it and seemed to sense something. He turned his head towards Isabella's direction.

Isabella quickly hid, accidentally bumping her head. She rubbed it in pain but didn't make a sound.

Frederick vaguely saw her little action, his expression changing slightly, but he said nothing.

Dennis looked back at the porridge, stared at it for a while, and said, "This isn't made by you."

Frederick was silent. This time, he couldn't lie.

He had been with Dennis since he woke up and hadn't had time to cook.

"Yes, it's not made by me, but it tastes good. Try it." Frederick replied.

Dennis hesitated, and both Frederick and Isabella outside the door held their breath.

Fortunately, Dennis only hesitated for a moment and didn't refuse outright. He eventually took a spoonful and put it in his mouth.

After tasting it, he said nothing and continued eating.

Frederick's heart finally settled.

Isabella outside the door also took several deep breaths. If Dennis refused to eat her food, she would have no chance to get close to him.

After a while, Frederick came out of the room, leaving Elijah with Dennis.

"Let's talk on the terrace," he said.

"Huh? Can't we talk here?"

Frederick didn't respond, turned around, and walked straight to the terrace with his long strides.

Isabella watched his tall back suspiciously and followed.
