Chapter 119 She Laughed Eerily, Like a Ghost
"What's going on?" Freya asked, looking totally puzzled.
Isabella put down her phone, too embarrassed to mention the kiss with Frederick. She just said, "He came to talk to me about Dennis, but then you guys showed up, and we almost ran into the kids."
Freya's eyes widened. "No wonder you were so nervous! The preschool had an unexpected closure this afternoon, and I forgot to tell you before I came back! Did he bring these gifts too?"
"Yeah."
"Alaskan king crab, Brittany blue lobster, my gosh, didn't you say he went bankrupt? Where did he get the money to buy such expensive gifts? These are really pricey!" Freya exclaimed.
Isabella was stunned. "Are they that expensive?"
"Yes!"
"Maybe he's worried I won't take care of Dennis anymore, so he went all out!" Isabella guessed.
"Are you still planning to take care of Dennis? Aren't you afraid they'll retaliate against you again?" Freya asked.
"I'm scared, but I can't just ignore him. I need to get Dennis treated first."
After saying this, Isabella stared at the seafood and took a deep breath, rolling up her sleeves. "Seafood feast tonight!"
Normally, she would feel embarrassed to accept such expensive gifts, but today was different; she was angry!
He had already harassed her, so why not eat his seafood?
She should eat it!
Not eating would be a loss!
The king crab and blue lobster were both alive, and even Freya had never seen such high-quality seafood.
Hugo, Justin, and Paul were also super excited, playing around and searching for recipes online.
One suggested this method, another suggested that, and finally, they agreed: the most expensive ingredients often require the simplest cooking methods!
Steam them to perfection! The seafood was delicious, and the cooking process was joyful.
After all the preparations, Isabella felt much better.
After dinner, Isabella suggested going to the mall.
First, take advantage of Hugo, Justin, and Paul's day off to take them out for some fun.
Second, she wanted to buy some gifts for Dennis. It was their first official meeting, and she didn't want to show up empty-handed.
Moreover, she wanted to use the gifts to gauge Dennis's preferences.
They happily arrived at the mall, where Isabella let Hugo, Justin, and Paul, each with their own personalities and preferences, pick out their favorite toys.
So she planned to buy an extra set of the toys they chose.
The extra set would be for Dennis, to see what he would choose and thus understand his preferences and personality.
If he chose the toys Hugo liked, his personality and preferences would likely be similar to Hugo's.
If he chose the toys Justin or Paul liked, it would indicate that his preferences were similar to Justin's or Paul's.
While the kids were picking out toys in the toy store, Freya and Isabella stood at the entrance.
Suddenly, they saw Daniel's cousin Laura!
Laura was in the neighboring store picking out baby supplies.
Freya whispered, "Didn't you say Laura had a miscarriage? Then who are those baby clothes and socks for?"
Seeing Laura's serious and gentle expression while picking out items, Isabella frowned slightly.
Laura's mental state seemed somewhat unstable.
She suddenly looked up and saw her through the glass window.
Their eyes met, and Laura's expression instantly changed from gentle to ferocious, as if she were looking at a mortal enemy!
Overwhelmed with emotion, Laura had difficulty breathing and was panting heavily, scaring the store clerk, who quickly asked if she needed a doctor.
"Mommy, can I buy this?" Justin had picked out a toy and ran over to ask Isabella.
Laura's gaze immediately shifted from Isabella to Justin.
Her eyes were dark and fierce, like a murderer about to strike in a movie!
Isabella instinctively pulled Justin into her arms, watching Laura warily.
Laura fixed her gaze on Justin for a few seconds, then glared fiercely at Isabella before striding away.
Isabella's heart was pounding. She entrusted Hugo, Justin, and Paul to Freya and ran after Laura.
She felt like Laura had totally misunderstood her!
Plus, Laura seemed to know something about Eleanor.
Just as Laura reached the mall entrance, Isabella called out, "Laura!"
Laura turned around, gritting her teeth and immediately shouting, "Murderer!"
Laura's voice was hoarse and rough, and that one word "murderer" sent chills down everyone's spine, making their hair stand on end!
People at the mall entrance looked at Isabella with surprise and curiosity.
Isabella frowned; now she definitely couldn't let Laura leave.
She quickly stepped forward and grabbed Laura's wrist, asking, "Don't go yet, explain yourself. Who did I kill?!"
Laura gritted her teeth so hard they made a grinding sound, and her facial muscles twitched with anger. She said angrily, "You killed my son, and I will kill your son sooner or later! Just you wait!"
Her determined eyes and expression made Isabella's heart skip a beat. She inquired, "How did I kill your son, I..."
"Are you looking for Eleanor? You'll never find her!" Laura suddenly laughed, a sinister and terrifying laugh, like a ghost.
Isabella shuddered, and Laura pushed her hard, causing her to stumble backward.
"Isabella!" Fortunately, Daniel appeared in time to catch her.
"Are you okay?" Daniel asked with concern.
Isabella didn't look at him; she stared straight at Laura.
Daniel, annoyed, looked at Laura and scolded, "What are you doing?!"
Laura seemed very afraid of him, shrinking back and not daring to respond.
"Take her back!" Daniel shouted angrily, and two middle-aged women immediately came over and took Laura away.
Daniel looked at Isabella again, asking, "Are you alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?"
Isabella, panting, looked at Daniel and asked, "Where is Eleanor? And who killed Laura's child?"
Daniel was stunned for a moment, then explained, "Don't pay attention to her. Her depression has worsened, and she talks nonsense all day, accusing everyone she sees of killing her child. Even doctors and nurses are murderers in her eyes.
As for Eleanor, there should be news about her soon. I've already contacted her agent, who assured me that they would find a way to have Eleanor contact me soon."
Isabella stared straight at Daniel.
Daniel looked back at her, calm and unhurried, not at all like he was lying, with only concern for her in his eyes.
Isabella was troubled.
What he said implied that Eleanor was fine?
Didn't Arnold say Eleanor's agent had disappeared? How did Daniel get in touch?
Did he suddenly contact Eleanor's agent because she mentioned calling the police?
Just then, Frederick happened to drive by the mall and saw the 'intimate' scene between Daniel and Isabella.
From his angle, Isabella looked like a wounded little woman, leaning into Daniel's arms, delicate and fragile, like a flower about to break.
Daniel was looking at her with full concern, asking questions and showing care.
Frederick, feeling a surge of anger, yanked at his tie as he uttered, "Working overtime tonight!"
Elliot was stunned. He was just driving and hadn't seen Isabella and Daniel, so he was confused, asking, "Frederick, we just gave them the day off today."
Announcing overtime now would make the employees cry.
Frederick's face darkened, saying, "Then notify the board and senior management for a meeting!"
Elliot remained silent.
Who on earth pissed him off today?
"Did you find anything on Daniel?" Frederick suddenly asked.
Elliot replied, "Right now, there's no evidence linking Glen to this."
Frederick frowned, and Elliot added, "By the way, Dennis has arranged to meet Isabella for dinner. Are you attending?"
"Did she invite me?" Frederick asked immediately, almost reflexively.
"Uh, no, I was just asking."
Isabella not only didn't invite you, but she also declared she never wished to see you again. But Elliot didn't dare to say that.
Frederick's face darkened further, and he suddenly became extremely irritable. He uttered, "Even if she invites me, I won't go! I never want to see her again in this lifetime!"
