Chapter 145 Dennis Came to Find Mommy

Frederick clutched Dennis, his heart racing like crazy!

He was clueless, totally lost!

Why was Dennis so worked up? He had no idea.

But he couldn't waste any time. He quickly threw a down jacket on Dennis, held him tight, grabbed the car keys, and bolted out the door.

All he wanted was to get to Isabella ASAP, to calm Dennis down and make him feel better.

In his rush, he even forgot to put on a coat. In the dead of winter, he was out in the cold wind wearing just a thin shirt. And he was sweating!

Dennis was his everything.

Frederick was a new dad. He didn't know how to be a good one yet, but he was giving it his all.

The cold wind whipped around, and he pulled the hood of Dennis's jacket over his head, worried he might catch a chill.

He hustled to the car, opened the back door, put Dennis in, and buckled him up.

Dennis was sniffling, his eyes red. His usually clean little face was a mess of tears and snot.

Dennis was a neat freak, just like him. Normally, he was super tidy, but today he didn't even bother to wipe his face.

It showed just how upset he was!

Frederick's heart ached!

He gently took a tissue and wiped Dennis's tears and snot, saying softly, "Don't cry. We're going to see her right now!"

Dennis cried and nodded over and over.

Frederick tenderly touched Dennis's cheek, closed the back door, quickly got in the car, started it, and drove out of the neighborhood.

Isabella had just gotten home and sneezed loudly.

Freya quickly asked, "What's wrong? Did you catch a cold?"

Isabella rubbed her nose and said, "No, where are Hugo, Justin, and Paul?"

"They're asleep in their room," Freya replied.

"I'll go check on them." Isabella gently pushed open the door to Hugo, Justin, and Paul's room and tiptoed inside.

Hugo and Justin had just gotten home and were pretending to sleep.

They planned to avoid greeting Isabella, but Hugo was worried, fearing that Isabella was upset about tonight's events.

After a moment's hesitation, Hugo sat up and said, "Mommy."

Isabella had just reached the bedside and paused. She asked gently, "Did Mommy wake you up?"

"No, I wasn't asleep yet. I heard you sneeze. Did you catch a cold?" Hugo asked anxiously.

"I'm fine, don't worry. My nose just itches. Why aren't you asleep yet?"

"I got your call earlier and was a bit worried. Is Dennis okay?"

Mentioning Dennis, Isabella sighed softly and sat on the bed. She said, "You and Dennis have different personalities. Today, you stood in for Dennis at the family memorial. His father thought Dennis had a split personality and called me over in a hurry."

"Mommy, don't worry. In a few days, when Dennis's daddy realizes Dennis is fine, he won't think much of it. At least he just thinks Dennis has a split personality and doesn't suspect Dennis was replaced."

Isabella was relieved and agreed, "Yes, you're right!"

If he really suspected Dennis had been replaced, she would be terrified!

Hugo continued, "Anyway, after today, those who want to harm Dennis will definitely think Dennis is completely fine. No one will bother you anymore, so our plan was very successful, right?"

Hugo's gentle persuasion made Isabella completely relax.

The whole thing was nerve-wracking but not dangerous. Overall, the plan was quite successful.

Isabella gave Hugo a loving pat on the head, saying, "Hugo, you're the sweetest."

Justin and Paul, who had been eavesdropping, couldn't hold back any longer. They popped their heads out from under the covers and asked, "What about us? Aren't we sweet too?"

The two little guys spoke in unison, their big, bright eyes fixed on Isabella.

Isabella paused and said, "You two aren't asleep either!"

She pinched Justin's cheek, then Paul's, and remarked with a smile, "Of course, you are. You are all my little suns! You always make my heart feel warm.."

Justin, always easy to please, beamed with happiness. He said, "I heard that emotions are contagious. If Mommy is happy, we can be happy too. Mommy should be happy every day."

Justin finished proudly and asked, "Hugo can make Mommy happy, and so can I, right?"

Isabella smiled gently and nodded. Paul, undeterred, though he lacked Hugo's intellect and Justin's charm, prided himself on being a man of action.

Paul climbed out of bed in his pajamas, bent down, cupped Isabella's face, and gave her a loud kiss.

"I can make Mommy happy too," said Paul.

The happiness on Isabella's face was unmistakable. She pulled Paul into her arms and tickled his tummy.

Paul laughed loudly, catching Freya's attention. Feigning a complaint, she said, "You guys are having fun without me, that's so unfair. I'm mad now. Looks like I'll have to eat the snacks I ordered all by myself. Look, there's even barbecue."

Hugo, Justin, and Paul's eyes lit up at the sight of the barbecue.

Isabella usually wouldn't let them eat such things.

"Freya is the best. I love Freya."

"I love Freya too. I'll find a hundred boyfriends for Freya!"

"I'll find a thousand!"

The small room was lively and filled with laughter.

Isabella laughed, but then a sudden wave of sadness washed over her.

She couldn't help but think, 'Here it comes again, the inexplicable sadness!'

Over the years, whenever she was happiest with the kids, this wave of sadness would come uninvited.

As if reminding her of something.

Dennis's lonely figure and furrowed brows suddenly appeared in her mind, and Isabella couldn't help but frown.

How wonderful it would be if Dennis could live with them.

Justin was right; emotions were contagious. If Dennis lived in this atmosphere, he would surely be happy too.

But Dennis looked exactly like Hugo and Justin. If the three of them met, Isabella wouldn't know how to explain it.

She sighed inwardly, wondering where Dennis's mommy had gone. Would she ever come back? Would Dennis ever have the chance to reunite with his mommy?

Suddenly, a thunderclap sounded outside, and it started raining heavily.

Freya, eating barbecue, turned to look out the window, surprised. She thought, 'Why did it suddenly start raining? There was no sign at all. Is God crying for someone again?'

Isabella walked to the window and looked outside, her heart aching even more.

At that moment, her phone rang.

She looked at it; it was Frederick calling!

Isabella was surprised. She picked it up and said, "Hello."

"Come downstairs, Dennis is looking for you," Frederick said with a hint of unease.

Isabella was stunned and asked, "You guys are downstairs?"

"Yes."

Isabella was shocked. "I'll be right down!" she responded.
