Mother of the Moon - Chapter 100 - The Stranger
Zelena.
“You look lovely” a deep accented voice came from the entrance to the dressing area. I turned to see a dark-haired man leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. He was tall and a bit burley, kind of like a lumberjack with better fashion sense. Wearing a leather jacket over a crisp white t shirt, matched with black jeans, he looked very bad-boy dangerous. His eyes were sweeping over my body from top to bottom and back again, a sly smirk playing on his lips. His hungry gaze immediately made me feel uneasy.
“Uh, thank you” I replied softly.
“You should get it” he said still staring at me.
“Excuse me?”
“The dress, you should get it” His English was brilliant but there are hints of an accent hidden among his words.
“Oh, okay”. I couldn’t look away from the man. I wanted to, I wanted to turn back to my dressing room and slide the lock in place. But something deep inside me kept me still, me feet planted and my eyes on the mystery man.
His tongue peeked out and grazed slowly over his bottom lip as his eyes bore their way through my skin. He wasn’t just looking at me. He was looking into me, deep inside me. Staring at something buried way underneath. He smacked his lips and tensed his jaw, pressing his plump lips into a tight line.
“You look ravishing” a low growl rumbled through the word ravishing as it fell from his full dark pink lips.
The man stood up from the wall and stepped towards me and I promptly took a step back. He smiled, a look of lust twinkling in his dark eyes. He took another step forward, I again stepped away. We continued this dance until my back hit the mirror. With two more steps he was now standing right before me. A Were. I can smell the wolf inside him, the scent of fur still hung to his skin. Not just a Were, power, a powerful Were. I froze, fear swimming through my stomach. Where is Nat, where is Felix? The man placed one hand on the mirror next to my head and leaned closer to me. He smelled of wet earth and stale cologne, but the scent of his desire was more potent than anything else. He reached down and grabbed my hand. I fought him, trying to pull my hand from his grip but it was pointless, his grip was locked. He lifted my hand to his face and firmly pressed his nose against the inside of my wrist and inhaled deeply.
Do something dammit! Use your force field, push him away, something. I was screaming at myself internally. But it didn’t work. I was stuck, unmoving, my fear taking full control of my body. The tall man pressed his lips to the back of my hand and held them there for a little too long.
“My Goddess” he whispered, lifting his eyes to mine. His pools of dark brown bore into my soul, my nerves sending shivers through my arms and legs. He knows who, or what I am. My skin broke out in heated goosebumps and body shook uncontrollably. The mirror on the wall behind me began to shake and the display table and pink armchair in the dressing room creaked and cracked as they rose into the air. The man didn’t take his eyes from mine, his smirk now spread across his face. One more chaste kiss to my hand before he dropped it again. In a blink, he was gone. My body fell to the floor, a wave of exhaustion and numbness blew through me. The armchair and display table dropped down with a loud thump.
Roe, Nat and Deena came bursting into the dressing room. Nat quickly rushed to my side while Roe and Deena distracted the shop assistant. I could hear what they were telling her. Their voices faded away into nothing while my mind flashed images of the mystery man.
“Hey, what happened, are you okay?” Nat asked me, her voice laced with concern.
“I, I don’t know” I mumbled. I buried my face in my hands and tried to take deep breaths. My body trembled with each strained inhale. Who was he? How did he know who I was? I wanted to cry, to scream, to punch something. How could I be so weak, why didn’t I fight back. Something about that man rubbed me the wrong way. I thought I was done being the scared little girl that didn’t know how to defend herself. I’m a fucking werewolf with superpowers, why didn’t I use them?
Felix appeared in front of me and gripped my hand. I shuddered and tried to jerk out of his hold on me. His touch taking me back to the stranger and how powerless he made me feel. A stray tear rolled down my cheek and Nat growled at Felix.
“Let. Her. Go” she demanded.
“We have to go, now” he replied, ignoring her request and instead scooped me up into his arms, bridal style, and began walking for the door.
“Hey, you have to pay for that” the shop assistant yelled.
“Here darling allow me” Roe said to the girl, dragging her over to the registers.
Felix marched through the shopping centre like a man on a mission, the crowd of shoppers parted like the red sea to let him through.
“Did you see who it was?” his firm voice asked me.
“Wha-what?” I stuttered.
“Did you see who attacked you?” he asked not missing a beat.
“I wasn’t attacked”.
Felix stopped walking and looked down at me in his arms. His brows were furrowed together, and the stink of anger was seeping out of his pores.
“You weren’t attacked?” he echoed me.
“No, I mean yes. I don’t know. He didn’t attack me, he said he liked my dress and kissed my hand and called me Goddess” I said looking away from Felix’s heated gaze.
Felix growled, I felt the vibrations rumble through his chest. The intimate position that we were in made the whole interrogation that much more uncomfortable. Roe, Deena and Nat caught up to us, still standing in the middle of the walkway. Shopper gazed at us as they passed. Curious eyes and full of question. The added attention made me shiver.
“What’s going on Felix?” Roe demanded, her voice hard and agitated.
“We will talk in the car”. With that Felix continued his marching to the parking lot, me still in his arms. We got to the car and Felix finally placed me down in the back seat. Roe and Nat slid in on either side of me while Deena and Felix climbed in the front. They all turned to me, eyes expectant and waiting for answers.
“What happened sweetheart?” Roe asked lifting my hand to her lap and stroking it gently.
“I was trying on the dress when this man said I looked nice” I started,
“Did you know him?” Felix asked,
“No, I’d never seen him before. He said that I should get the dress because it looked good. Then he backed me up against the mirror. I don’t know what happened, I just froze, I didn’t push him away, I didn’t use my powers, I did nothing. I just stood there like an idiot. He grabbed my wrist and smelled me before he kissed my hand and called me his Goddess.”
“He smelled you?” Felix asked with a cocked eyebrow,
“Yes, he pressed his nose to my wrist and inhaled”
“And he called you Goddess?” Roe asked,
“Yes, he said ‘my Goddess’. After that I lost my control and that’s when I broke the chair and table”
“And the man?” urged Felix,
“He was there one second, kissing my hand, and the next he was gone. That’s when Nat came in”.
“None of you saw anyone exit the dressing room?” Felix asked looking at the others.
“No, no one” Row replied while Deena shook her head,
“She was the only one in there when I went in” Nat answered.
“Okay, we need to get back and report to the Alpha” Felix turned on the car and started to pull out of the parking garage.
“Do we have to tell Gunner? Nothing happened, I’m fine” I whined. Once he finds out about this, he will lock me in the room and not let me leave again. That, or he will handcuff himself to me. Ugh, this is a disaster.
“Yes” was all Felix said in return.
“Sorry sweet girl, but I’m with Felix on this one” Roe said soothingly, still holding my hand.
“Me too. He will legit kill me if he found out I kept this from him, sister or not” Nat scoffed.
Great, this is going to be a total shit show.
