The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 62 - The Commanders

Gunner.

“Cole, go. When both our father’s get back, tell them where I am. Mum, come with me, I’ll fill you in” With that, Cole nodded his head and ran to the front door. I took mum to the kitchen and sat down at the counter.
“If the pack are coming, I better get some food ready” she said then went rummaging around the fridge and cupboards. She dropped the food on the bench and started preparing the snacks.
“Well?” she said, not looking up from her cutting board.
“Zelena was kidnapped as a baby and raised by a hunter, he knew of her lineage and was ordered to keep her in the hope she would bear the powers of the Goddess” I blurted out in a single breath. No point dancing around the truth, right? Mum gasped and dropped her knife to the floor,
“You can’t be serious?” she said softly.
“He said they were coming for her Mum, there’s a battle coming and I have a feeling it’s going to be a bloody one”.
Hearing the words come out of my mouth made it all that much more real. I had been pushing the thought away since first hearing it from Hank. Until this moment I wasn’t ready to accept it, now I have no other choice. We need to be ready and I need to keep Zelena safe.
“Can you flash Dad, find out how long he’ll be” I lifted my eyes to my mother, a single tear was slowly rolling down her cheek. She picked up her knife and continued chopping away at the vegetables in front of her, not pausing for a second.
“They’re on the way” she said softly. I nodded my head and looked down at my hands, rolling my thumbs around each other.
“Gunner?” Mum whispered,
“Yeh?” I asked looking up at her.
“What happened at the cabin, with Zelena?” she was now staring directly at me with both hands on the counter. I took a deep breath and steadied my nerves.
“She killed her father” I paused, took in her expression and continued.
“After he told her about the kidnapping and the hunters and killing her real parents, she let her anger take control and her powers were unleashed. She flew into the air and crushed his bones into a pulp”
“Oh, my word”
“It was incredible, she was incredible. So much power and in total control. If I didn’t know better, I would have been terrified” I couldn’t deny the smile that the memory bright to my face. My Mate is seriously a force to be reckoned with.
“Sweetheart, you look like you believe this is good thing?”
“Isn’t it though? She’s the most powerful wolf I have ever seen and she belongs to our pack, she belongs to me, she’s my Mate”
“Yes, my love but we spoke to you about the potential danger. If she lets her anger take her into the darkness, she could destroy us all”
“Zelena isn’t like that Mum, she is kind and gentle and she cares about us”
“I know she does Gunner, but she has suffered, more than almost anyone else. That kind of pain can change you”
“Well I won’t let it, neither will she”.
Mum stared at me intently, her face was painted with worry. A weak smile grew on her lips and she nodded her head.
“I trust you” she said and returned to her cooking. I sat and watched her for a few minutes, she smells of anxiety and her brows were fixed into frown lines on her forehead. She was really worried about this, about Zelena’s gifts. I know that Zee won’t do anything to hurt us, any of us, she sees the pack as her family now. She is strong and she can control it, I believe in her. I was about to reach for Mum’s hand to comfort her when Cole's voice in my head startled me.
***Everyone is in the hall***
***Thanks man***
***Any sign of Dad?***
***Not yet***
***Keep me posted***
***Got it***
“Mum I’ll be in the hall” I said standing up,
“You’re not going to wait for you father?” she questioned with one brow raised,
“I don’t need to wait, he knows I wouldn’t wait. It’s okay Mum honestly”.
She pursed her lips together and nodded her head. She doesn’t like that I’m doing this without Dad’s approval. He is the Alpha and everything is meant to be run by him first. Other pack members could see my pre-emptive actions as a challenge against my father’s authority, but I just know that time is of the essence here. Dad will see that too and he’d understand, I think.
I pushed open the hall door and walked in. The faces of the men turned to look at me but quickly went back to their conversations once they realised it was just me. Mazz and Julian were here as well as four others, the commanders. Smith sat quietly at the back corner of the room. He was avoiding eye contact with me, he must still be embarrassed about his reaction to Zelena’s heat. I stood at the head of the table and cleared my throat loudly.
“Settle down, let’s get things started” I called to them.
“Thanks pup, but we’ll wait for the Alpha” one of the commanders spat with a sarcastic laugh. I think his name is Jackson.
“The Alpha is on the way, in the meantime I will be leading this meeting” I said sternly.
“Pfft” the commander turned his back to me and went back to talking to the others. His disrespect and arrogance made my blood boil. Mazz and Julian were now watching me, waiting for my reaction to the commander. Smith sat up straight and was also watching me, waiting. If I let him speak like this to me now, I will never have his full respect, even when I take the Alpha role. My skin burned and tingled with rage. I slammed my fist on the table and jumped up on it. I grabbed the commander by the neck, lifting him up and slamming his back on to the table. My protruding claws were digging into the skin of his neck. I crouched down and leaned forward growling ferociously in his face, my fangs now only centimetres from his face.
“When I tell you to shut up, you will shut the fuck up and listen” I growled at the arrogant asshole.
“You’re not Alpha yet pup” he choked out. I roared angrily, lifting the commander’s body and slamming it again back into the table. The hall door flung open with such force I thought it was going to fly off its hinges. Dad stood in the doorway growling lowly. He looked around the room and then down at me and the commander.
“Explain” he growled stepping into the room with Spartan and Cole close behind.
“I was about to give this jackass a lesson in respect” I growled looking back down at the commander’s red face.
“What the fuck have you done to earn my respect?” he yelled trying to pry my hand off his neck. I growled again until my father's hand was now on my shoulder.
“Release him” he ordered,
“But…”
“Now, son” he cut me off. I growled again, pulling back my fangs and claws and let go of my grip on the commander’s neck. He stood up and growled, baring his teeth and leaning toward me. In a blink, my father had his hand around the commander’s neck and his back pressed against the wall. Dad lifted his feet off the ground and growled so loudly that the walls shook.
“That is your Alpha-Son and future Alpha. That title alone earns him your respect. However, the strength, bravery and compassion for his pack that he has displayed throughout his entire life is more than deserving of your respect and loyalty.”
“Yes Alpha”
“Challenge his command again and I will tear your arms from your body. Is that understood?”
“Yes Alpha”.
Dad lowered him back onto his feet but didn’t release the grip on this neck. Dad leaned closer and growled with his teeth bared.
“I apologise my Alpha-Son, I will not disrespect you again” he said with a shaky voice. Dad threw him into a chair at the back of the room and ran his fingers through his hair.
“Gunner, please continue” he huffed standing beside me. I smirked at the commander and glanced at the other men, they were all now giving me their full attention.
“Hunters are coming, they mean war and they will kill every Were in the village to get what they want”.
