The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 66 - Tobias
Zelena.
As I sat at the huge table in the room that Gunner called the hall, I was listening to him and Cole talking. Apparently more than half of the pack had elected to stay behind to help in the fight against the hunters. As much as I tried to argue with Gunner about sending them away with the others, it was useless. He just kept reminding me that he didn’t force them to stay and the more wolves to keep me safe, the better.
Gunner and Cole were organising where to position the extra pack members when Lupus pushed open the door.
“Son” he said as he stepped through the door,
“The Blue Moon pack fighters have arrived, joined by their Alpha”
“Their Alpha?” Gunner questioned.
As the words left Gunners lips, the tallest man that I had ever seen stepped through the door and stood beside Lupus. He was monumentally gigantic. He doesn’t look to be too much older than me and Gunner though. His skin is a deep dark brown with a smooth and airbrushed looked to it. His large strong muscles were protruding through the material of his t-shirt. His shaved head allowed the light to bounce off his scalp. His lips were full and perfectly plump. His dark eyes that looked nearly black were pointed directly at me. I felt small and insignificant under his gaze. Everything about this colossal man screamed intimidating and powerful.
“Hello” he spoke, his voice like smooth silk, deep yet friendly.
“I’m Tobias, eldest son of Alonzo Gilliano, Alpha to Blue Moon pack” he was speaking and facing Gunner, yet his eyes didn’t move from me. Gunner stepped forward, his body now blocking me from Tobias.
“Hello Alpha Tobias, I'm Gunner, the newly appointed Alpha of Tri-Moon. I offer my sincere thanks for answering our call” Gunner offered his hand and Tobias took it, they both lent forward and pressed their foreheads together. I've seen this action a few times now, I believe it is a show of respect when greeting someone of a high rank.
They parted and Gunner took a small step back to the table, again putting me in full view of the giant Alpha.
“If you’d like to...” He held his arm gesturing to the papers laid out on the table,
“I have been told you are mated to the Triple Goddess” Tobias interrupted, stepping towards my chair. Gunner quickly moved between us and stood before Tobias, chest out and claws ready to surface.
“I mean her no harm, young Alpha” he chuckled at Gunners protective stance,
“I only wish to offer my undying loyalty and services to our Goddess” he flicked his eyes to Gunner and quickly back to me again. Gunner walked backwards to stand at my side and placed his hand on my shoulder, squeezing it slightly.
***It’s okay Gunner***
***He is still a stranger little wolf***
***He just wants to meet me, you knew that some people would act this way***
***I don’t like how he’s looking at you***
Gunner growled softly but nodded his head to the huge man. Tobias stepped forward and got on his knees in front of my chair. Even on his knees he was still eye level with me. He bowed his head and held his hands out to me. His stance resembled Artemis in the library the other day. I forgot to ask Artemis the meaning behind it, and what I am meant to do about it. Like, am I meant to take their hands or are they showing me they have no weapons, or something totally different? This is still kind of weird. For some reason I felt compelled to touch the enormous hands in front of me, like I was being pulled to reach out to him. I slowly put my arms up and gently placed my hands in the centre of his palms. A sharp shock fizzled were our skin touched and the air around the room filled with calmness. A quiet whispered voice blew past my ears and gentle wave of relaxation swept over me. What does that mean? I felt Gunner’s grip on my shoulder loosen. Tobias looked up to meet my gaze and he smiled,
“I knew it” he whispered.
“What was that? What does guardian mean?” I rushed out looking over the smiling face in front of me.
“You heard it too?” he said excitedly,
“Heard what? I didn’t hear anything” Gunner said in an irritated tone.
“Yeh I did, you didn’t answer my question though” I said ignoring Gunner.
“A few weeks ago, the Goddess came to me in a dream and told me I was to watch over and protect her chosen daughter. She said I would be called to her and when the time came, I needed to answer the call” he wrapped his fingers around my hands.
“I am to be your guardian, to help your Mate keep you safe. My Goddess, I offer you my loyalty, my servitude, my allegiance and my life”
“Well this is new” Lupus said, still standing by the door.
“Uh, th-thank you” I mumbled.
“Do you accept me as your guardian, my Goddess?” Tobias asked, staring into my eyes. I looked up at Gunner who gave one slow nod of his head.
“Yes, I accept”
“Excellent” he bellowed jumping to his feet.
“Alpha Gunner, please show me your plans and instruct me where to place my fighters” he called, slapping his hand to Gunner’s shoulder. He squeezed my shoulder once more and went back to the table with Tobias, introducing him to Cole.
They started chatting over battle plans and the fighting abilities of the wolves. With the four of them in the room, and another new revelation playing on my mind, I felt small and uncomfortable. I have a magical guardian now too. Is this going to be a regular thing? Random Weres, strangers, pledging their lives to me? I needed to find a bit of space for myself to process. I stood up from my chair and walked to the door. Gunner turned his head to look at me, I gave him a weak smile.
***Just going for a little breather***
***Don't go far from the pack house***
***I won’t***
He looked back to the table and I went through the door, closing it behind me. The air right away feels lighter out in the foyer. The front door was wide open, and I can see the busyness outside. There are new faces gathered around the fire pit, about twenty maybe a few more. They must be the fighters from Tobias’s pack. I want to make them feel welcome and thank them for coming. Roe has been in the kitchen with a few other ladies all day, she’d have some snacks prepared to offer them, no question.
Once in the kitchen the chaos was undeniable. There were six ladies, plus Deena and Roe, all cooking and running about the kitchen. It smells amazing, whatever they are baking.
“Hi Roe” I called out,
“Zee darling, do you need something?” her voice came from behind two other women.
“I was thinking I should offer the Blue Moon fighters some food or something”
“That is a lovely idea, sweet thing. Grab a tray of sandwiches off the breakfast table”.
I looked over at the breakfast nook and the whole bench was covered in trays of food. I picked up the biggest one filled with wraps and sandwiches and left the kitchen again. As I walked out the front door and down the porch steps, the men gathered at the fire pit started to notice my approach. One of the men that looked very similar to Tobias, just not as gigantic, stepped forward to greet me.
“Hi there” I said as I neared him,
“Hello, little Miss, what can I do for you?” he spoke, his voice sounds similar to Tobias as well.
“I thought you could use a snack” I said smiling down at the tray in my hands.
“Now I'm assuming that you're talking about that tray of food you're holding and not that scrumptious little body of yours" the man said while pulling on his bottom lip. His tongue poked out slightly, coating his bottom lip and the tip of his finger. I believe he meant for the gesture to be seductive, but it only made my stomach turn and a distasteful feeling wash through me. I stared at him blankly, lost on words. His bluntness caught me by surprise.
"I uh... I um..." I mumbled. He chuckled and waved his hand dismissively.
"They're so shy here in Tri- Moon. I'm just kidding little one, calm down. Thank you, that is very kind of you” he said gesturing for one of the other men to come forward and take the tray.
“I am Marius, brother to Alpha Tobias and Beta wolf of the Blue Moon pack. Who might you be?” he asked with a cocky tone. He tilted his head to the side with a smirk and let his eyes scan over my body as he licked his lips again.
“I’m Zelena, I guess I'm the Luna now” I said taking a small step back, feeling very uncomfortable with his hungry inspection of my body. He snapped his eyes back up to mine, the smirk gone and his eyes wide. He dropped to one knee and placed his hand over his chest, bowing his head.
“My Goddess, please forgive my rudeness, I offer my sincere apologies” he said with a slight panic in his voice. The men behind him mimicked his action and all got down on their knees.
“It’s okay, please stand up” I said stepping toward him again. He quickly stood and took a retreating step away from me. The action saddened me, I don’t want people to be afraid of me.
“I just wanted to tell you thank you, for coming to help us against the hunters. We are very grateful” I offered a big warm smile and his body relaxed a little.
“Anything for you my Goddess” he responded bowing his head again. I nodded to him and smiled to the men behind him, I turned on my heels and headed for the pack house. This is really going to take a while to get used to, the whole bowing and ‘my Goddess’ thing. It just feels weird.
