Twin Moon - Chapter 207 - Sisters Fight

Zelena.

Tobias helped to calm my nerves. His words offered a small sliver of hope, but it was enough to lift my spirits. We headed back downstairs to get more food, before I went in search of Nat. Our little talk is way overdue. After a half attempt at checking the usual spots, the movie room, kitchen, library, with no luck in any of them, we headed out to the village to see if she was with Smith. It was mid-afternoon but the village was unusually quiet. I walked past the cabins and around the communal areas. A few pack members were out and about keeping themselves busy, but the atmosphere just felt unusually still. Each person I passed offered a warm smile and would either nod or wave or even bow. Yeah, some of them were still bowing, and I am still not comfortable with it. We got to the edge of the clearing where most of the visiting packs had been staying when the Alpha ceremony happened. But they were all long gone now, back to their own realities and homes, left to deal with the aftermath of the war. All except for one. Alpha Lace from the Howlers Pack was still here. He did go back to his homeland for a minute, but returned again a day or two later. I've always thought it strange that he was still here. He's an Alpha after all, he has a pack to run. But here he still is, with seven of his men.
We approached the large tents that the Howlers were staying in. They had moved to the other side of the clearing, a fair enough distance away from our main village. They had also arranged the five remaining tents to form a circle around a communal area with a fire. I suppose this was to give them a little extra privacy. Which again, I think is weird. If they want privacy, why not go back to their own pack. The closer we got to the tents, the tighter Tobias stuck to my side. Laughing and hollering was echoing from the middle of their little set up, along with the soft thrum of music. Whatever they were doing, they were enjoying themselves.
A crowd of people had made their way over here, and it looks like the beginnings of a party was underway. Two of the Howlers men each had their arms wrapped around a Tri-Moon she-wolf. I knew that one of them had Mated with one of our pack members, Olive, I believe her name is. She will be heading off to live at the Howlers pack with her new Mate, whenever it is that they are leaving that is. The other pair looked to be getting very close and comfortable. It was sweet though. He held her to his chest and had his face buried in the crook of her neck, and his arms wrapped tightly around her body. All the while she was laughing wildly while holding a bottle of beer. She looked unapologetically happy. Her bright young face glowed from the smile that was covering it. I don’t remember the last time I smiled like that. Not just a regular smile, but a full beam, grown from uncontainable happiness. I managed to push my way to the inner edge of the crowd and was both shocked and confused by what I found.
Alpha Lace was on his back, shirtless, in the dirt, with a man lying on top of him. He had his arms around the other Weres neck, and his legs wrapped around his body. I recognised the other male immediately. It was Ari. He is one of our top fighters, on the fast track to becoming a commander. And one of Gunner’s friends. Alpha Lace had Ari’s legs pinned and was squeezing his arms around his neck in a strong chokehold. Ari’s face was turning red and was screwed up into a strained grimace. Alpha Lace was laughing and looked like he wasn’t struggling in the slightest, even though Ari looked exhausted. I didn’t know if I should yell, or scream, or try to pull them apart. But everyone else was cheering, so I froze and just watched. After a few more seconds Ari tapped on Lace’s arm, and Lace released his hold. Ari rolled out of his arms onto his hands and knees, coughing and spluttering. Lace jumped up with a mighty roar and threw his hands in the air. He laughed and screamed and revelled in the cheering of the crowd. It wasn’t just his arms that were covered in tattoos, his entire torso was covered as well. The intricate pictures and designs rolled over his bulging muscles, until they disappeared below the waist of his pants. All the while Lace was eating up the excitement of the crowd, his eyes seem to linger in just one direction. I followed his line of sight and saw Nat sitting on a log, staring back at him just as intensely.
I carefully pushed my way through the crowd of people, towards Nat. It was actually pretty easy. Tobias moved most of them out of the way for me. As I squeezed closer to Nat, I looked back to Lace and Ari. Alpha Lace helped Ari to his feet and pulled him in for a hug. They were both covered in dirt, dry grass and sweat, but even after the fight they just had, they hugged each other anyway. Nat saw me coming and waved me over to her enthusiastically.
“What’s going on?” I asked her as I sat down on the log beside her. She took hold of my hand and rested her head on my shoulder.
“Just testosterone filled men acting like wild animals” Nat said back with a groan,
“Um, what?” I blanked with a scoff,
“They have all been wrestling with each other for about an hour now. So far no one has been able to beat Alpha Lace” Nat said casually, while still looking at the Alpha. Her eyes moving slowly over every inch of his body. The moment his name left her lips, his head snapped around in her direction again. The way he looked at her, it was like he was showing off for her, like he was trying to get her attention and impress her. I leaned my head on top of Nat’s and slyly sniffed. The sweet scent of arousal was all over her. I sat up straight and stared at the Alpha, then back to the top of Nat’s head, and back to the Alpha again. How had I not realised this already. Have I really been that blind? How could I have possibly missed it.
“What’s going on with you and the Howlers Alpha?” I asked her sternly. Nat snapped upright and stared at me wide eyed.
“What?” she blurted out quickly,
“You and Alpha Lace, what’s going on?” I repeated,
“Nothing! What makes you think there’s something going on? Why would you say that?” she snapped and dropped my hand. She looked panicked and flustered, and at the same time terrified.
“I can see it. The way he looks at you, and the way you were looking at him. There’s something happening” I said a little more gently to try and calm her down,
“Why would you say that to me. I’m with Smith. I love Smith. Nothing is happening with me and Lace” she snapped and jumped up. Before I could even stand up, she was gone. I struggled to my feet and tried to chase after her, but I’m too slow and she was fast. Tobias, as per usual, came to my rescue. He swooped me up into his arms and gently jogged us after Nat.
We reached the bottom of the porch steps, just as Nat slammed the front door behind her. Without missing a beat, Tobias followed through the door after her. Nat was stomping up the stairs towards her room as Tobias gently let me down.
“Nat, wait” I called after her, but she ignored my plea. Roe came out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron and looking over the three of us.
“What the Goddess is all the slamming and screaming for?” she demanded,
“I… I think I upset Nat” I answered her sheepishly,
“You think?” she laughed and placed her hands on her hips,
“What happened dear?” she asked with her usual soft and welcoming smile.
“I asked her if something was going on between her and the Howlers Alpha. Then she just kind of snapped at me and ran away”
“What made you ask her that?”
“Well, there was a vibe, an energy between them. He was looking at her, but not like a normal look, the kind of way that Lupus looks at you sometimes. And she smelt sweet and kind of like lust or desire. I don’t know Roe, maybe I was wrong, I just had a feeling. I didn’t mean to make her angry, I just kind of blurted it out like an idiot” I answered her and dropped my head. I really didn’t mean to upset her. Maybe I was a little too blunt. I could feel my emotions starting to race. The tears were welling in my eyes and my breathing started to quicken. Roe huffed and stepped closer to me. She gently placed her hands on both sides of my face and lifted it so that I could look at her.
“It’s okay sweet girl. I have been having the same feeling” Roe said softly and leaned forward to kiss my forehead.
“You have?” I sniffed,
“Yes dear. Tobias, there are fresh pastries in the kitchen, why don’t you go help yourself. We need to have a little girl time” Roe said over my shoulder to Tobias. I didn’t hear him answer but his footsteps started to walk away.
“I was hoping she was going to come to me herself with this, but now is as good a time as any. Come on darling, let’s go have a chat with that girl of mine” Roe said with her gentle smile and took my arm. She helped me up the stairs and to Nat’s room. She didn’t knock or call out, she just opened the door and stood to the side to let me in before her.
“Seriously, I do not want to talk to you right now” Nat growled from her spot on the bed. She was laying on her stomach with her face pressed into the pillow.
“Too bad young lady” Roe answered her. Nat growled in frustration and rolled onto her back before sitting up and scowling at the both of us.
“I’m not in the mood” she grunted,
“I don’t care. When you slam my doors and yell at your sister, you don’t get to choose not to talk to us” Roe quipped back. She strode over and sat down on the bed beside Nat, then she patted the spot next to her for me. I hesitated as I looked between the two of them. I don’t want to make things worse than I already have.
