The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 63 - My Alpha

Gunner.

“Hunters are coming, they mean war and they will kill every Were in the village to get what they want” I paused and waited for their onslaught of questions.
“How do you know this?”
“When?”
“Impossible”
“What do they want?”
I raised my hands to command silence and they obeyed. I looked to my dad and he nodded, it was time to tell the pack about my Mate.
“Early this morning we captured a hunter that had been residing in the town for the past seventeen years, unbeknownst to us”
“How did you find him out?” one of the older commanders interrupted, I know him only as Rex.
“He was apprehended for questioning about his relationship to my True Mate, Zelena”
“Your True Mate?” Rex interjected again,
“Yes, my True Mate” I confirmed.
“There hasn’t been a True Mate pairing for decades, why would there be one now?” Rex asked with a slight bow in order to show he was not challenging me, but simply curious.
“That question is best directed to the Goddess herself” my father answered.
“And the relationship, between the hunter and your Mate, is what?” the newest commander, Felix, asked stepping forward to the table.
“She was raised to believe that he was her father, during his interrogation he revealed the truth of his identity and his motivations” I paused again for more questions, but the room was quiet. They were now allowing me the time to explain uninterrupted.
“The hunter known as Hank, was ordered to kidnap Zelena as a babe from a pack we suspect was in Alaska. In doing so her birth parents were killed along with the remainder of their pack”.
“My Alpha-Son” another commander interrupted, he placed his hand on his chest and bowed his head slightly as a show of respect and submission.
“Jonathon is my name, why would the hunters go to such lengths for your True Mate?” I felt all eyes burning into me, waiting for the answer to his question.
“Zelena is the last known descendant of Selena, the first chosen daughter of the Goddess. She bears the mark of the Moon Goddess and harnesses her powers as well. Zelena is the new Triple Goddess” There were multiple gasps and muffed swears, and then a deafening silence. None of them would dare challenge my word now, but it would still be difficult for them to believe.
“You are sure?” Rex asked.
“With the confession from the hunter and the few of us that have witnessed her powers in use, plus Artemis has confirmed, the fact can no longer be denied. The Triple Goddess has been born again, and she is of the Tri-Moon pack” my father spoke strongly, with not a hint of doubt in his voice. They all looked around at each other and then back to my father. Their expressions quickly turned between disbelief to shock, to fear, to excitement and then landed on what appeared to be pride, or respect. Then they turned to face me and bent a knee to the ground and bowed their heads. My father did not kneel but he did bow. In one unified voice that echoed around the hall, like they had practised it, they chorused together,
“For the Alpha and the Goddess”.
I felt a wave of energy crash through me and like a warm glow prickle my skin. I looked at my dad and he was still bowed but looking at me with a proud smile. I know what this was meant to be, I’ve been told about since I was a pup. But this isn’t how it’s meant to happen.
“Dad” I whispered running my hands along my arms, feeling the warmth.
“Dad, was that...?” he stood up straight and placed his hands on my shoulders, leaning his forehead against mine, his spoke softly,
“My Alpha” his words sparked in my ears like electricity. Everyone else stood up slowly and stared at me. My father stepped back and Cole took his place, repeating the same action.
“My Alpha” he said proudly. The remaining pack members followed suit. With each embrace and each call of the Alpha, I felt my connection to the pack grow. Once everyone in the hall, even Jackson, had acknowledged me as their new Alpha, I turned back to the table.
“Thank you, my brothers, I will not fail you and I will fight every day to prove that your faith in me is warranted. But for now, let’s turn our attention back to the matter at hand” I tried to sound confident, they all seemed to believe me. This was unprecedented, for an Alpha to ascend at only eighteen. Especially when the former Alpha is still alive and perfectly capable of continuing his role. There is meant to be a ceremony, held in front of the entire pack to bear witness. But this impromptu and unexpected changing of hands, was far from the norm. I have trained and prepared for this my entire life, but I still don’t know if I'm ready for it.
Everyone gathered around the table and we began our preparations. We would call to our allies, the Blue Moon pack that resides a few hours away, and the Crescent Wolves, that lived further away still. Both packs were strong and had great fighters, we never had to called on them before, but they had always remained loyal to our alliance. Mazz, Julian and Smith will head out at first light.
The pups, the elderly and wolves that can’t fight will be taken to our emergency housing located in a warehouse near the docks in the human town. I tasked each commander with their own roles, Rex the elder commander was to oversee the extra security of our borders. Jonathon and Jackson were to lead their fighters to guard the forest entrance. And Felix, is to set traps and other defences around the village. Cole, who I announced as my Beta, was to assist and lead the commanders in the completion their tasks.
“As my ascension to Alpha happened somewhat unexpectedly and without the pack to witness, we will need to address that before we commence the relocation” I told the group,
“Mazz, Julian, tonight will you both spread word that the Alpha has requested the pack to gather in front of the porch of the pack house at dawn”
“Yes Alpha” they chorused.
“I will inform the pack of the incoming threat after the ascension announcement. Remember we don’t know when the hunters will arrive, so we need to be prepared for their attack as soon as possible. The relocation to the town safe house will be done tomorrow afternoon. Is everyone clear on their responsibilities?”
“Yes Alpha” they answered in unison.
“Thank you, my brothers, I trust in you and I appreciate your strength and courage. Spend tonight with your families and rest up. I will see you at sunrise”.
“My Alpha” Jonathon said as he tipped his head and left the hall, Rex and Felix we right behind him. Mazz and Julian both put their hands to their chest and nodded as they left.
“My Alpha” Spartan said with a smile as he pulled me in for a hug. Spartan isn’t usually one for showing affection. I knocked my fist on his back and grunted as he squeezed me tightly. He let me go and smiled before leaving. Jackson walked over with his head bowed avoiding eye contact.
“My Alpha, I apologise again for my disrespect earlier” he said sheepishly.
“All is forgiven, though I expect it won't happen again?” I asked strongly,
“No my Alpha, you have my respect and my loyalty” he blurted out placing his hand on his chest and bowing.
“Thank you, Jackson, we’ll start fresh”
“Thank you, my Alpha,” he stood up straight and tipped his head and left.
Smith approached me with a smirk.
“My big strong Alpha” he chuckled with a bow. I pulled him in for a hug and he hugged me back.
“You’re not mad?” he asked into my ear,
“I’m furious, but I also know how damn good she smells, and I can’t hold that against you” I chuckled a little. I let him go and he stood with his hands on my shoulders.
“I’m truly sorry, it caught me off guard and I...”
“Smith” I interrupted,
“It’s okay, I know you. Stay for dinner yeh?”
“Definitely” he smiled and headed out the door. Cole gave me a wink and smacked my shoulder and followed Smith. Dad stepped in front of me and pulled me into a hug.
“I’m proud of you son”
“Thanks Dad”.
He put me down and held my shoulders.
“You conducted yourself well and organised those old dogs with ease. You are every bit the Alpha I hoped you would be” he said proudly with a wetness welling in his eyes.
“You taught me well Dad, thank you” we looked at each other for a moment before he cleared his throat and dropped his arms.
“I’m going to get some food and to fill in your mother” he said rubbing his belly.
“She’s going to be pissed that she missed the ascension”
“Oh yeh”
“Well, I leave that with you. I’m gonna go check on my Luna” I said heading out the door.
“Son” Dad called after me,
“Yeh?” I answered turning back to him,
“Make the most of tonight, a lot will change come sunrise”.
I nodded my head and walked away heading up the stairs. My Luna, I thought. I’m the Alpha now, and Zelena is the Luna. Come tomorrow the pack will know about the new Alpha and his True Mate, their Luna and the Triple Goddess. I know that the senior pack and commanders see my mating to Zelena as the ultimate advantage, and they aren’t wrong. Everything leading up to this point has proven that we will reign together as one of the most powerful pairs in our history.
