Mother of the Moon - Chapter 156 - Is That Artemis?
Zelena.
Zoe. Gunner’s first time, his only other time. Why the heck is she still around? After being banished, she was meant to leave. She should be far away from Tri-Moon by now, Gunner can, and will kill her if he catches her near his land. Wait, Zoe is a Were, I've seen her change before, she did it right in front of me. Why then did she struggle so much this time around? Also, what the fuck is she doing with Galterio’s pack?!
Galterio was talking quietly to Zoe, quiet enough that I couldn’t pick up what they were saying. I strained my hearing to try make out the words, but I could only hear parts of it. The words ‘failed me’ and ‘useless’ and ‘no longer needed’ stood out above the rest. I remember Zoe being kind of pretty, big boobs, nice hair and a face full of makeup. But this Zoe was wretched. Skin and bones with a feral look in her eye. I watched her closely as she talked with Galterio. Her mouth twitched a lot, especially when she spoke. Her eyes darted all around the place, like they were too hyper to stay in one spot. She looks crazy. The longer they spoke, the crazier she started to look. After a few more seconds, Zoe seemed to snap. Her lips curled up and her forehead creased with deep frown lines.
Zoe turned her gaze around the yard, she found my eyes and her frowning face hardened. Her mouth opened into a hiss, with her canines fully extended. Her body started to shake, and I thought she was having some kind of seizure. In a split second she charged towards me. I was so shocked by her sudden burst of speed and surprised by her attacked, that my brain didn’t allow me the time to defend myself. She screeched out a high pitched deafening scream as her hand swung out at me. Just in the nick of time, I reared back. But not far enough. Her claws missed my throat, but instead caught my chest and left shoulder. I screamed and fell backwards to the ground. Zoe launched towards me again and I crossed my arms over my face, readying myself to feel the pain she will inflict. But it didn’t come. I looked back up and Zoe’s body was now hanging above me. Her legs were kicking around wildly, and she was screaming and roaring into the air. One of Galterio’s hands was holding the back of her neck, and his other hand was holding her wrist, keeping her claws away from his face. His growl shook the ground and echoed around the yard, catching the attention of everyone nearby.
“She is not yours to touch” Galterio roared at her. Zoe screeched again and tried to claw at Galterio. He did a weird flick thing with his arm and wrist. A sickening crack followed by a crunching sound came from Zoe, and then she was quiet. Her body was dropped limp in front of me, hitting the ground with a thump. My eyes immediately found her lifeless grey eyes. Her mouth was hanging open, but there was no air coming in or out of it. My gaze then moved to the bone sticking out of her neck. My stomach spoke before my mind did, I turned to the side and vomited all over the ground.
I was on my hands and knees, emptying my stomach when gentle hands gripped hold of my hips. My hair was pulled from my face and a hand moved from my hip to rub a soothing circle on my back. Once I stopped heaving, a cloth was pushed to my face so that I could wipe my mouth. I took the cloth and cleaned off the corners of my mouth. I looked back at Zoe’s dead body and stared blankly into her barren eyes. I should feel something. Sad, scared, repulsed. Something. But I feel nothing when I look at her. She wanted me gone, she tried to kill me. And now she is the one that’s gone. I feel nothing.
“My apologies Beauty, I shouldn’t have done that in front of you, especially in your condition” Galterio's smooth voice came from beside me. He carefully placed his hand on my cheek and turned my head away from Zoe’s body. I looked up to glare at him, but instead I moved back out of his touch after realising he was now shirtless. I looked at the cloth in my hands and held it out in front of me, it’s his shirt. He gave me his shirt to wipe the sick from my face. That’s kind of sweet. But it doesn't take away from the fact that he just murdered someone right in front of me.
“Why did you do that?” I choked out as I began to struggle to my feet. Galterio jumped forward and gripped my arm and helped to slowly pull me upright. Using one hand, he held my forearm, and the other he wrapped around my waist to hold me up. He carried me back to the table and chairs and carefully lowered me into my seat.
“She hurt you” he hissed while looking at my chest. Oh, I forgot about that. I looked down at my chest where she struck me. The white shirt I was wearing had been ripped from the neck hole to the left sleeve. I had four deep slash marks from the middle of my chest, to up and over my collarbone and shoulder. My blood dripped down my chest and soaking through the fabric of the shirt. I felt it in the moment, the pain, but then it was quickly forgotten after seeing Zoe’s dead body. But now that I can see the aftermath of her claws, the pain is all too real.
“Oh my god, oh my god” I gasped and started to panic. I couldn’t wipe the blood with the shirt in my hand because it had my throw up on it. I pushed Galterio back and stood up. I ripped off the t-shirt that I had on and began to press it against the open wound. A low growl rumbled from behind me, I whipped around to see that Galterio had stepped back close to me. Only he wasn’t facing me, he was growling at the other Weres. His arms were slightly outstretched beside him, like he was trying to stop them from seeing my bikini clad body. Is he jealous or is this protective? I moved the shirt from my chest, but the blood still hadn’t stopped.
“I’m not healing, why aren’t I healing?” I cried.
“Zelena, will you please put your clothes back on” Galterio hissed angrily, completely ignoring my question.
“Alpha Galterio, why aren’t I healing?” I asked again, my voice was a mixture between panicked and angry. What did that stupid cow do to me? I looked down at my chest and back up to him. Why isn’t he more worried about this? As I moved my eyes between us again, a figure in the yard caught my attention. I snapped my head up and zeroed in on the person. That can’t be right. Is that... Artemis?
