Mother of the Moon - Chapter 178 - Reunited
Zelena.
“Gunner” I breathed out softly. He snapped his dark eyes to mine and I shuddered. His normally bright blue eyes were narrowed into slits and extremely dark. His lips were curled back to expose his fully extended and blood-soaked canines. Dried blood coated his chin, neck and chest, and my first instinct was to lick it off him. The moment our eyes met, I felt the anger and rage flowing through him. It was intoxicating and seductive. I like it. Gunner growled as his eyes raked down my body and back up again, lingering briefly on each wound and each patch of blood on my body.
***You’re hurt?***
***I’ll be fine***
As Gunner was watching me, Galterio lifted his hand, claws extended and went to swipe at Gunner’s throat.
“Gunner!” I screamed and jerked my body forward, but Tobias’s firm hold kept me in place. Gunner’s arm flew up, blocking Galterio’s blow. The black whisps of smoke twirled around his arm, shielding him from the sharp claws. Galterio screamed out and yanked his hand away from the dark power. I huffed a sigh of relief, glad that Gunner wasn’t burnt by the smoke in the way that Galterio was. Gunner examined the odd substance coating his arm, then the smoke reformed into a long sword like shape. So, Gunner can access the black magic too. This just made things much more exciting.
“Where’s Cole?” he grumbled. His questioned wasn’t aimed at Galterio, even though his murderous gaze was. I froze. Unable to answer. With the darkness swirling through my body and my rage at the forefront of my mind, for a moment I had forgotten why I let the darkness in in the first place. My head whipped to the body lying in the brush twenty meters away. Tobias followed my line of sight and a growl rumbled through his chest as he saw what I saw. I could feel the anger and sadness expel from him as he took in the sight. Gunner turned to look at me and asked again,
“Where’s Cole?”
When I didn’t answer, he too looked to the place where Cole’s body was laying. The sword like thing in his hand dissipated and he froze, staring at his best friend’s body. He turned back to me with the question in his eyes. Is he okay? I shook my head as a sob broke out of my mouth. Tears fell down my cheeks and I relaxed into Tobias’s hold, letting him hold me up. Gunner roared into the air and threw Galterio across the small space. Galterio’s back hit hard against a tree, and he fell to the ground. Even with the effects of the darkness slowing him down, Galterio was still quicker on his feet than the rest of us. He jumped back up and charged towards Gunner. I noticed it before Gunner did, and raised the shield, making Galterio run face first into the invisible wall. I pushed Tobias’s arm from around my waist and went to step forward.
“No” Tobias growled at me and grabbed my arm. I turned around and glared at him. He reared back and his mouth fell open.
“What have you done?” he asked blankly whilst still gripping my arm.
“Nothing. Yet” I snarled back. I tried to pull my arm from him again, but his grip wouldn’t budge.
“This is not the way Zelena. You don’t belong in the dark, you are the light, you are the love. Don’t give yourself over to it, please little one” he pleaded with me. I wanted to listen. I really did. But until Galterio was dead, and Cole was avenged, the darkness is where I will roam.
I lifted myself from the ground and hovered to Gunner’s side. Galterio was pacing back and forth in front of the shield. Running his fingers along the wall. The sparks that tingled through my body with the contact he made against the shield, urged me on. The spot on his shoulder that was pierced by the black smoke, was now looking like a funky tattoo. Deep black vein like shapes had begun to spread out from the point of impact. The same thing was happening at the spot near his hip. The darkness was in him now too. Gunner looked to me as I reached him. His eyes were near black and he looked ready to kill. My darkness, or maybe it was his darkness, whoever it originated from didn’t matter, but it was cursing through him. I could see it in his eyes, and feel it in this aura. I reached my hand out for him and he took it. His eyes began to shine a bright silver, but dark swirls could be seen in the depths of his gaze. Gunner lifted off the ground at my side and we both turned to Galterio. We don’t need words. We didn’t need to speak to know what needs to be done. Galterio will die. Slowly. Painfully. And by our hands.
I lifted my outside hand and let the dark power seep from my skin. Gunner did the same with his hand. I thought about the daggers, about them piercing Galterio’s skin. And just like before, the smoke morphed into a sharp jagged blade. In Gunner’s hand a longer blade appeared. Galterio eyed the black weapons in our hands and took a step back. I dropped the wall and smiled wickedly at him.
“Last warning Zelena. Kill this bastard and come with me now. Or I will kill you all” Galterio growled. His anger was thick and palpable. I could feel it in the air. But it didn’t scare me. In fact, I fed off it. Or more like, my darkness did. Gunner's hand squeezed mine and I turned to gaze at the side of his dangerously handsome face. He was glaring at Galterio, ready and itching to kill him. There was no question for him, Gunner knew where he stood, where we stood. He didn’t need the reassurance that Galterio’s demand was never a possibility.
“You still think I will be yours?” I mused and smirked back at Galterio,
“Look at him, look at us. This is what pure and powerful looks like. You never came close. You wanted a Were king, well here he is”. With that, Galterio lunged. I’d pushed just the right button. I played on his ego, and he snapped, just like I knew he would. Galterio got a hand on my collarbone and growled. Gunner flicked his hand around and tensed his fingers. The dark smoke wrapped around Galterio’s wrist and lifted it off me. Galterio growled with pain as the darkness caressed his skin. Gunner flicked his wrist again and sent Galterio flying sideways through the air. He laughed and squeezed my hand. Galterio jumped back to his feet with a roar and charged again. This time, I stopped him. I wrapped my power around his body and flung him up into the air. He came crashing back down hard, but still managed to jump to his feet. He crouched on the ground, moving his eyes from me to Gunner and back again. He stood slowly and growled. As he growled his face began to morph. His nose pushed forward, and his mouth widened, making way for his teeth to sharpen and grow. His eyebrows thickened and his ears pointed. A brush of dark grey fur sprouted down his neck and along his jaw. He looked like something out of a scary story. The monster in the dark that you tell kids about when you want to scare them.
He stalked forward, eyes pinned on me. Gunner let go of my hand and moved himself to hover in front of me, blocking Galterio’s forward attack. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that Galterio just smiled. He was there one second, and gone the next. I was snatched from the air with sharp claws pressed to my neck and a hard body pressed to my back. I turned my head to the side, to relieve the pressure of his claws on my jugular. And that’s when I realised that Tobias was gone. He was no longer standing where I left him. Did he abandon us? Leave us to fight alone. He was mad about me accepting the darkness, I know that, but I didn’t think he would leave me. Gunner roared and went to lunge forward. Galterio clicked his tongue and moved his other hand to my stomach. He pushed his claws into the skin, and I winced.
“You don’t want to do that Alpha, one slice, that’s all it will take” Galterio sneered. His vicious menacing voice sounded wilder and deeper than before. Gunner paused, he looked at the hand at my neck, and then the hand at my stomach. His dark eyes snapped to my face, and I could see the confusion.
***You’re pregnant?*** Gunner flashed.
