The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 61 - She can do anything
Gunner.
Her body slowly lifted off the ground, just like she was flying. Can Zelena fly now? Hank mumbled something and started shaking his head, clearly as surprised as me. Suddenly the legs of the chair he was on folded underneath him. His painful scream hurt my ears.
“You killed my mother” Zelena screamed. I looked back at her and she had her hands outstretched towards Hank. She was doing something funky with her fingers, moving and flexing them weirdly. Hank continued to scream and cry in pain. I was frozen, I couldn’t understand what was happening right now. My eyes shot from Hank to Zelena and back again. A violent and powerful rage started boiling up from inside me. I felt a heaviness in my legs, like I was being pulled into the ground. Of course. It hit me like a freight train. She’s using her powers on Hank.
“Zelena stop” I called to her, stepping forward. I needed to calm her down, to take her focus off her rage. She glanced at me briefly. I got a glimpse of her glowing yellow eyes, shining brightly like stars in the night sky. They were beautiful. I’d never seen her eyes do that before. A small panic joined the confounding rage inside me. Zelena reached her hand to me and I was sent sliding back across the floor. I tried to walk to her again but I couldn’t move, there was some kind of invisible wall blocking me. A force field? I pushed against it, but I couldn’t get through. The power that I was getting from her dissipated, along with the overwhelming rage and sorrow. Was she blocking me now too?
Dad, Spartan and Cole appeared at the door across the room. I tried call to them but they couldn't hear me, the force field was blocking the sound of my voice.
***Don’t go near her***
***She’s going to kill him Gunner***
***Then he’ll die. Just don’t touch her, stay back***
Zee was unpredictable, I couldn’t risk them getting hurt unintentionally. I saw Cole’s lips move and then Dad nodded in agreement. They stood still in the doorway watching, eyes fixed on Zelena. She turned her hands and flexed her fingers. The muffled screams from Hank were barely audible to me. His legs were crumpled sacks of meat and shattered bone underneath him. His arms were slowly curling and twisting into his sides. His mouth hung open wide with a pained expression plastered on his face. I turned my gaze back to Zelena. Floating there in the air, her hair looked as if it were caught in a gentle breeze, waving slightly around her shoulders. Even with her furrowed forehead and glowing eyes she looked almost angelic. She opened her mouth and a white wave of haze surged from her body, crashing over Hank.
Hanks body lay crumpled and broken on the ground, his head twisted and bent in an impossible way. I looked back to Zee as her hands fell to her side. I felt the wall holding me evaporate and I ran to Zelena, just in time to catch her as she fell back down. I sat down on the ground and held her tightly in my arms, her face had never looked paler. Her eyes were struggling to stay open and her breaths were ragged.
“Zelena, what did you do?” I asked softly. She was fading, her strength dwindling. She reached up to cup my cheek in her hand.
“I had to” she whispered, her eyes closed and her head fell back.
“Zelena?” I gently shook her body.
“Zelena, open your eyes” I placed my hand on her cheek, her skin was still warm. I leaned my ear closer, I can still hear her shallow breaths. I looked up to see my father standing over us.
“She passed out” I told him. I looked over to Cole and Spartan, they were inspecting what was left of Hanks body.
“This is incredible” Spartan said lifting what looked like an arm. He dropped it again and looked over to me.
“She can do this, with just a wiggle of her fingers?” his voice was uncertain, impressed but laced with a bit of fear. Which is highly unusual coming from Spartan.
“She’s the Triple Goddess, she can do anything” my father said still looking down at us.
“Come on son, let's get her to Artemis” Dad grabbed my shoulders and helped me to my feet with Zelena still in my arms.
“Cole, you go with Gunner back to the village, Spartan and I will clean up here”
“Yes Alpha” agreed Cole.
We made our way out of the cabin and started through the forest. We walked in silence for a while, my worry for Zee occupying most of my thoughts.
“Gunner” Cole said clearing his throat,
“I’m sorry mate” he said softly,
“Sorry for what?” I asked not looking at him.
“I’m sorry I didn’t give her a proper chance. I was too wrapped up in my own feelings and I didn’t see how happy she was making you”
“It’s okay brother”
“No really, I was selfish and I'm really sorry”
“Cole, I know. It's okay”.
He grabbed my arm and stopped me and stood in front of me. Placing one arm on my shoulder and the other on Zee’s hand, he looked directly into my eyes.
“I swear to you here and now, I will give my life to protect her and you. She is truly amazing and I can’t believe I'm only just seeing that now. She will be the greatest Luna our pack could have ever asked for, and I'm sorry for doubting that”.
His oath took me a little by surprise but warmed my heart.
“Thank you, brother” was all I could say. He leaned his forehead against mine for a moment before standing up straight again.
“Well come then, our Luna-to-be needs to be checked out” he said slapping my shoulder. We picked up the pace to a light jog. I'm glad Zee is so tiny, she fits perfectly in my arms. As we neared the edge of the forest Cole took off ahead of me, I'm assuming to go and find Artemis. I broke through the trees and made my way to the pack house.
***Artemis is in your room***
***Thanks Cole***
I got to the door just as Cole opened it for me. Mum rushed over and placed her hand on Zee’s face.
“Is she okay baby?” she asked with a shaky voice,
“She passed out, I'll fill you in after we’ve seen Artemis” I walked up stairs with Cole and Mum trailing behind. Artemis was standing by the bed waiting for us. I laid Zee down and took a small step back. Artemis glided his hands through the air above her body and hummed loudly. He rested the back of his hand on her chest over her heart and then stood up again.
“She do too much, get weak. She need rest and big food, then be okay” Artemis nodded to me and headed for the door.
“Thank you, Artemis”
“Yes” he replied as he left.
“Okay, come on then, let’s let her sleep” I said ushering mum and Cole out the bedroom door. Once out the door I closed it behind me and turned to face Cole.
“Cole, gather the senior pack and the commanding fighters, tell them that they are needed at the hall immediately”
“Gunner baby, your dad...”
“Dad will expect me to get things started” I interrupted my mother.
“Yes, but get what started my boy, what is going on?” Mum asked urgently.
