Twin Moon - Chapter 258 - A Son
Zelena.
Lunaya and Alyse fussed over Aurora, who only seemed to grow more angry from the added attention. She threw their hands away from her, which stopped their insistent “are you okay?” and “are you hurt?” cooing and questioning.
“Get off me” she growled and shot to her feet. She shot up from the couch and slowly backed away from everyone else in the room.
“Aurora, sweetheart, it’s okay” Lunaya said softly and stepped toward her with her hands out. Aurora growled and flashed her teeth.
“My name is Whiskey” she snarled through her clenched teeth. Gunner stepped forward, in line with Lunaya.
“Whiskey, you’re safe here. You can trust me” he told her. Her eyes sort of glazed over and her body visibly became less tense. How did he do that, from just talking to her, I've never seen that before. Gunner stepped forward again and held his hand out for her to take. She hesitated, staring intently at him, then reached out and took his hand. It's good I suppose, that she has someone to trust. After what Selene made me watch, seeing the torture that she had to endure, I can only imagine how that has affected her state of mind. My poor sister. I have no doubt that things didn’t improve for her after Dad was killed, they probably got worse. Especially if she blocked out Selene. I'll say it a thousand times, I never would have survived without her. So how did Aurora, I wonder. We'll need to talk it out. I want to know what happened to her and how she survived. If she will talk to me, that is. With the angry looks she keeps throwing at me, I don’t think she is in much of a chatting mood.
Gunner walked Aurora back to the couch and sat her down. I thought he was going to sit down beside her, but he didn’t. He came to the couch I was on and sat down at my side. He placed his hand on my knee and I wrapped my arm through his. I leaned my head on his shoulder and took a deep breath, inhaling his scent. It made me feel almost instantly calm. After a few more deep breaths, I lifted my gaze to Aurora, but she was now glaring up at Tobias. Lunaya sat beside her on the couch, trying to get her attention, but Aurora paid her no mind and instead kept her gaze firmly on my guardian. I could feel Tobias inching closer to me from behind the couch. His overpowering aura of protectiveness was flooding the room, it was suffocating.
“Aurora, I mean, Whiskey, are you alright? Did you hit your head? Are you hurt?” Lunaya fussed from beside her. She went to swipe some of Aurora’s loose hair from the side of her cheek, but Aurora caught her hand before she was able to touch her.
“Woman, if you touch me again, you will lose your hand” Aurora growled threateningly and threw her hand away. I swallowed the growl that threatened to slip through my clenched teeth. We're overwhelming her, that’s all it is. She is just confused, I tried to tell myself. She won’t hurt anyone, not on purpose.
“Mum, ease off” I said to Lunaya. She stood up with tears brimming in her eyes and walked behind the couch to where Alyse was standing. Alyse smiled softly and took her hand. This probably isn’t how she thought meeting her other daughter would go. I gave her a tough enough time when I found out who she was, she was most likely hoping it would be a lot easier with Aurora.
We all sat silently, looking back and forth between each other. No one quite knew what to say. As I examined my lost sister, a thousand questions bounced around my mind. What does this mean for the prophecy? Now that she is alive, is it about me and her and not the twins. I prayed as much. I don’t want them anywhere near this prophecy. But also, which one of us is the bringer of death, pain and destruction. Since Gunner brought me to the pack, so many Weres have died. First with the hunter's attack, and then the war with Origin Wolf. The idea that I am the one bringing death and destruction, it’s firm and ever present in my mind. It makes sense to me. Even if I hope it is not true, it feels like it could be.
A gentle growl caught my attention. I snapped my eyes back up to Aurora, who was now glaring at me with her top lip curled back. I squeezed Gunner’s arm and offered her a soft smile. She is probably freaking out.
“Aurora, can I...” I began but she quickly cut me off,
“Whiskey!” she snapped,
“My fucking name is Whiskey. Yebanyye debily (Fucking morons)” she shouted and shot to her feet once again. Gunner was quick to stand in front of her, blocking me from seeing her face. Tobias’s growl filled the small room, while a few murmurs came from Roe and Lunaya.
“Enough Whiskey! It was just a mistake. You’re okay, you’re safe” Gunner cooed gently. Her eyes did that same glazed over thing and she slowly sat back down. I'm going to have to ask him about that. Gunner moved to sit back down beside me, but Tobias didn’t move back, he stayed at my side, watching Aurora closely.
“I’m sorry, Whiskey it is” I told her with a smile. She blinked rapidly and scoffed, leaning back into the chair with her arms crossed.
“Why don’t I get Whiskey some fresh clothes and a hot meal” Roe piped up and stepped forward. Whiskey moved so fast, uncrossing her legs and shifting to turn towards Roe. It was like she was expecting her to attack or something. I suppose if she was raised by hunters, she would have had to be prepared for them to attack her all the time. Just like I was with Hank.
“Isn’t there something you two need to do?” Roe asked Gunner with her eyebrow raised. Gunner grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet.
“Actually, there is” he answered excitedly. He dropped my hand and crouched down in front of Aurora.
“Whiskey, this is my mum, Roe. And my father, Lupus. I promise you, they will take care of you. You are safe here, you can trust me” Gunner said assuredly. Aurora shot her eyes to both Roe and Lupus, before looking back at Gunner and nodding her head.
“That’s Lunaya and Alyse” he went on, pointing behind her to where they were standing. She turned to glance at them and quickly turned back.
“They will also take good care of you. If you need anything at all while I'm gone, any of them will help you. Okay?” he asked, and again she nodded.
“That big guy behind me, is Tobias. He's a grumpy old fart, but he is no danger to you, I promise” Gunner said with a chuckle, which earned him a low growl from Tobias. Gunner turned and winked at Tobias from over his shoulder, before he stood up again and took my hand.
“You’ll be alright, we won’t be long” he said once more. He gently squeezed her shoulder and she just stared at him, not saying a word, like she was in some kind of trance. He nodded to her and then again to his mum, then pulled me out of the room. The doors closed behind us and he scooped me up into his arms, making me squeal from both excitement and surprise. Half way up the stairs, he stopped and pressed my back against the wall. He bent his head down and smashed his lips to mine enthusiastically. I met his lips just as excitedly and I slipped my tongue into his mouth. I moaned at the taste of him. I have missed him, I've missed this. I wrapped my legs around his waist and brushed my fingers through his hair. Our lips moved together in perfect synchrony, like no time had passed. Sparks danced across my skin where he touched me. His hands squeezed and grabbed and pinched me all over, while his hips kept me in place, pressing me into the wall. I want nothing more than to take him to our room and lick him from head to toe.
“Fuck I've missed you” he breathed heavily.
“I missed you too” I responded and captured his lips once again. My body was on fire, burning with the desire to feel him. His touch, his kiss, the heat of his naked skin on mine. I was starving for him and was prepared to feast right there on the stairwell. The sound of someone clearing their throat with an awkward chuckle, forced us to peel our mouths away. Nat stood at the top of the stairs with her hand on her hip.
“If you’re about done” she said teasingly.
“I could go for a few more hours, I have some lost time to make up for” Gunner teased and nipped at my lips. I chuckled and flicked his nose with the tip of my tongue, earning me a lust filled growl from Gunner.
“Gross” Nat scoffed,
“And here I was thinking you'd want to meet your...” Nat started but Gunner quickly cut her off,
“We’re coming” he said with a wide smile. His skin smelt strongly of desire and excitement. I didn’t want to let him go yet, but the vibration of pure joy coursing through him was strong. It made me excited too, the thought that he was as eager to meet them as I was to introduce him. Even if I still haven’t told him that there are two babies. He is going to flip. At least I hope he will.
“Come on then, I've got stuff to do you know” she jeered playfully and walked back to the nursery. I laughed and pushed his chest back so that I could crawl out of his arms. Then we marched quickly up the stairs and to the door of the nursery. I jumped in front of him before he could go through it, and stopped him with a hand on his chest. He looked down at me with a quirked brow.
“What’s wrong?” he asked,
“Try not to freak out” I said slowly. His eyes went wide, and he quickly pushed past me,
“Why would I freak out?” he asked as he stumbled through the door with me close behind him. Nat turned around and smiled up at her brother. I went over to her side and watched Gunner’s reaction with anticipation. He froze on the spot, his eyes glued to the blue blanket in Nat’s arms.
“Bout time” Nat said with a cheerful tone.
“Meet your son, Daddy” I said to him with a smile. Gunner looked up at me and smiled as a tear rolled down his cheek.
“A son?” he repeated softly. I nodded my head and he shuffled over to us. Carefully he pulled the corner of the blanket away from B’s face and ran his finger over his cheek.
“He’s perfect” Gunner whispered.
