Mother of the Moon - Chapter 157 - Poisoned?
Zelena.
That can’t be right. Is that... Artemis? No. I stepped forward and was about to call out, when Galterio growled lowly. Using his speed, he hit the back of my knees with one arm and my upper body with the other. It was so damn fast that I didn’t get the chance to prepare for it. He had me in his arms bridal style, and in a flash, we zoomed back into the house and back to the same bedroom that I woke up in. He placed me on the edge of the bed and went to step back. The exceptionally fast movement made my stomach turn. Galterio must have picked up on my nauseousness, because he dashed away and was back in a blink with a bucket held under my chin. Once again, I empty the content of my stomach into the bucket, well what was left in my stomach. All my thoughts of pain from the claw marks to my chest were erased by the endless stream of dry reaching. I hate vomiting.
I have seen far more gruesome things than a broken neck. I have inflicted far worse things on others and had less lethal but still just as brutal things done to me. And I run, I run as my wolf and my human, I can use my Were speed with no repercussions. Why now am I suddenly vomiting at the sight of a broken neck, and getting sick from quick movements? This isn’t right. I don’t get sick. The food! It must have been the food. Oh shit, the fucker poisoned me! I glared up at Galterio and snarled,
“What did you do to me?” I growled. He tilted his head to the side and frowned,
“Unfortunately Beauty, it was not me that did this to you” he grumbled.
“Bull shit” I hissed and pushed his hand away from the bucket that I hugged to my chest. He smiled at me. A full wide smile. He is actually quite beautiful when he smiles. But something behind it made me want to vomit again.
“Trust me Zelena, if it was I that put you in this position, you would have remembered it” he mused with a cocky gleam in his eye.
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean? I am so over all the cryptic talk” I groaned and dropped my head. The smell of my vomit hit my nose and I quickly shot my head back up again. Galterio was still watching me intently.
“You poisoned me, didn’t you?” I questioned him firmly. My eyes held his, and my lip lifted into a snarl. His smile dropped and he took a step away from me. After a brief moment he placed his hand over his heart and smirked,
“You think so little of me, dear cousin” he feigned a hurt face and pouted his plump lips.
“I’m not playing with you Galterio, why else would I be so sick after eating your food. If you didn’t do it then someone from your pack did”
“If you think that I have such little control over my pack, if you think that any of them would dare defy me, then little girl, you don’t know me in the slightest” he snapped in a hard voice.
“Don’t call me that” I hissed and dry reached.
“Don't call you what?” he chuckled,
“Don’t call me a little girl. I may be small, but I could do a hell of a lot worse to you than just snap your neck”.
Galterio kneeled in front of me so that he was eye level with where I sat on the bed. His teasing smile was gone, as was his flirtatious behaviour. His eyes were dark and the muscle in his jaw was tensed tight. He was past the point of angry. I poked the bear, and now I was going to see if he would bite back.
“Are you threatening me, Triple Goddess?” he asked in a deadly yet calm voice. It is the first time I have heard him refer to me as Triple Goddess. Yet somehow, the way he said it didn’t feel like a term of endearment.
“Not threatening, just warning” I answered him. Keeping my face even and my tone level. He glared at me, and I glared back at him. We held each other's gaze for I don’t know how long. But after a while he winked at me and smiled. He stood up, took the bucket from my grip and then held out his hand for me.
“Come on, I bet you’re hungry again after all that” he said as he waved his hand towards the bucket. How can he do that? Just switch between emotions like flicking on a light switch. It's giving me whiplash. I moved my eyes from his outstretched hand, up and over his thick bicep to his bare chest. A smattering of dark hair coated his chest, leading down to the top of his pants. This man is fit. Smooth skin pulled tightly over perfectly defined abs. Galterio cleared his throat and I flicked my gaze up to meet his big brown eyes.
“I’m not eating your food again” I said shocked. I know he just tried to poison me. I mean, I called him out on it, right to his face. And yet he still thinks I would trust him to give me food. This Alpha is full on crazy town.
“And why not? You seemed to really enjoy it the first time round” he teased me,
“Yeh, but that was before I realised you poisoned it. I'm not stupid enough to trust you again after that” I sneered. Galterio huffed and crossed his arms over his chest.
“You’re impossible. I’m starting to see why your Mate tried to kill you”. I didn’t expect his words to cut so deep. But they did, down to the bone. My heart clenched and pain rang through my body. Could Gunner have hurt me on purpose? He promised that he never would, and until now, he lived up to that promise. I don’t believe that was really Gunner, I can’t believe it. He wasn’t in his right mind, he didn’t know what he was doing. I can’t believe it. If I lose him, I will have nothing left.
A tear rolled down my cheek and I very quickly wiped it away. Galterio already saw it though, he let his arms fall at his side and looked down at me with pity in his gaze.
“I’m sorry, that wasn’t fair to say” he said softly and moved closer. He was about to sit down next to me on the bed when I jumped up. I don’t want his pity, I don’t want anything from him. I heard him out, I listened to his rant about the horrible humans. I even considered helping in his cause. Freedom from the hunters is something I can be passionate about. But now I'm done.
“Don’t bother” I snapped at him,
“I’d like to leave now, I'm not staying around Weres that tried to kill me” I hissed at him venomously, he stood up slowly and ran his hand through his hair.
“Didn't we just cover this? I didn’t poison you Zelena. Why would I bring you to my home, take care of you, ask you to help with the cause and then poison you?” he asked frustrated. I suppose I didn’t think of it like that. When he lays it all out on the line like that, it actually doesn’t make any sense. But still, I'm not the type of person to get sick spontaneously. I know there is more going on. He may not have done it, but I'm not ruling out the possibility that someone here did. Especially after learning that they had Zoe hanging around.
“I don’t yet sick. Not like this” I ground out.
“Maybe you didn’t before, but you do now, apparently” he said with a smile and followed it with a chuckle,
“Why is this such a joke to you, what do you know that I don’t?” I yelled and stomped my foot. I could feel my anger rising inside me. The power danced through my veins under my skin.
“You’ll figure it out in your own time” he teased and winked again. His attitude was rubbing up against my last nerve. The weightlessness in my chest told me that my power was ready to be released.
“Now let’s go and feed the little monster before I decide to make you beg”. He held out his hand, but I refused to take it. If I moved my arm at this moment, I may just send him flying through the wall.
