Mother of the Moon - Chapter 153 - That Bitch

Zelena.

I can see right through him. And right now, I see hidden intentions and dark excitement. Despite that, I was starving, so I ate it all. I had to force myself not to lick the plate clean of the steak juice. Galterio watched me the entire time. Once I was done, he took my plate and was about to leave the room again.
“Wait” I called to him,
“Yes Beauty?” he asked as he turned back around.
“Where are you going? Can I come with you?” I asked, trying to make my voice as sweet and innocent as possible. But in truth, I just needed to find a way out of here and back to Tri-Moon. Galterio looked me over for a minute, studying my face closely.
“Will you behave?” he asked with a smirk. That smirk is really starting to get on my nerves.
“What exactly does ‘behaving’ entail?” I asked as I crossed my arms over my chest.
“You don’t hurt anyone. You listen with an open mind when I talk to you about the cause. And most importantly, you don’t run” he said back, mimicking my stance with his arms crossed.
“Don’t run? So I am a prisoner?” I sneered,
“No Beauty, you are a guest. A very important and protected guest. It will be hard to protect you if you are running from me and my guards” he mused with a teasing grin.
“Fine, whatever. But I want to know more about this cause. Like now” I demanded. Galterio laughed and opened the door of the bedroom.
“As much as I like seeing you on that bed Beauty, I think we should have this chat somewhere else. Especially if you want to keep my attention on the cause and not those legs of yours”.
I shuffled uncomfortably in place and tried to pull the t-shirt further down my exposed legs. Galterio stepped through the door and stood holding it open for me. I slowly got up off the bed and went to the door. I slid through the frame, putting as much space between the two of us as I could manage. He watched me with hungry eyes as I moved, which made my skin crawl. He headed down a hallway, passing closed doors on both sides before it opened up into a large open-plan living space. For a temporary residence, this place is nice! Everything is so shiny and modern, sharp edges and clean colours everywhere.
First, Galterio led me to a very big and open kitchen with huge white marble benchtops and lots of floor to ceiling cupboards. He went to the fridge and pulled out a blue container and then handed it to me with a smile. I took the container but didn’t get to open it because he began walking away again. He stopped at the front door and placed his hand on the handle and then turned to look at me.
“You will behave?” he questioned. I didn’t respond just nodded my head. This is it. My chance to escape. Galterio opened the door and stepped through. As soon as I followed him, a flurry of noise invaded my ears. The space around the large white house was alive with activity. Weres and wolves all moving about busily. I hadn’t realised that I had stopped walking to stare at the commotion until I felt a hand on my back, gently guiding me forward. Galterio led us to a small table and chairs that were sitting under a pergola. He sat down and indicated for me to do the same.
“What is all this?” I asked him as I kept watching all the movement.
“First, eat” he replied and pointed to the container in my hands. I popped open the lid and pulled out a cold lamb chop. I took a bite and swallowed it quickly,
“Okay, now explain, what is this?” I asked, waiving the lamb chop in the air.
“This is the cause. My pack, a couple of other packs, even a few roamers and Omega’s. All united under one dream” he said with pride.
“To defeat the hunters?” I said turning my gaze to him.
“That, among other things” he chuckled and kicked his legs up onto the edge of the table and crossed his arms behind his head. The bottom of his shirt rode up, exposing a set of smooth and creamy and perfectly defined abdominal muscles. He caught my staring and laughed again as he grabbed the hem of his shirt and pulled it up to the top of his chest, exposing his entire abdomen. He ran his hand over his defined muscles and chuckled.
“Do you like what you see, Beauty?” he asked as he watched me with an amused grin,
“You’re no Gunner” I quipped back. I put the container up on the table and smirked at Galterio. He frowned and lowered his shirt again.
“That Alpha...” he began to growl with a harsh and hateful tone, but I quickly cut him off,
“Don’t! Don't you dare talk about him. If you want me to listen to this plan of yours, then you leave him out of it” I snapped. Galterio growled and his lips turned up into a snarl. After a second, he dropped the angry look and huffed out a short harsh breath.
“Fine” he conceded.
“So, go on then. Your plan?” I pushed him to start his spiel. The quicker he gets this over with, the quicker I can get out of here, hopefully.
“With you and I leading the charge, the last two remaining direct descendants of the children of Lycaon, no Were could turn us away. We will be able to rally together Weres from across the world, they will all want to join our fight” he began,
“To defeat the hunters” I interjected,
“Yes Beauty, to put an end to the hunters and more” he replied,
“What is the ‘more’ part you’re talking about?” I asked him cautiously, I don’t quite like where this is heading.
“Once the hunters are gone, Were-kind will have one less thing to fear. But in order for us to truly become free, we need to come out of the shadows”
“What does that mean exactly?”
“It means that us Weres are the apex predators. We are the strongest, fastest, and the best in every way. Why should we live in secret? Why should we be forced to hide away from the world? Weres are the higher beings, we should be ruling” he spoke with conviction and pride. He was sure of every word that came from his mouth. But I was still confused as to what he was trying to get at.
“Galterio, I don’t understand. You want me to help you rule over the Weres?” I asked with my nose scrunched up. He chuckled and leaned back in his chair.
“No Beauty, I want the Weres to rule over everyone” he answered with a cocky grin,
“Everyone, as in...”
“The humans Zelena. I’m talking about the filthy fucking humans! They kill each other for fun, half of them are too fat and the other half are dying of hunger. They are stupid and selfish creatures, and they are beneath us in every possible way! They should be the ones hiding in the shadows. They should be scared of us hunting and killing them! Not the other way around” Galterio’s voice slowly raised in volume and anger as he spoke, until he was screaming at me with his hands on the table and his body leaning forward. All this time he was talking about defeating all humans, not just the hunters. The amount of hatred in his voice was disarming. What could possibly have happened to him for his hatred to go so deep.
Galterio was fuming. He sat glaring at me with his chest heaving up and down in ragged breaths. His face was red and his dark eyes were watching me through thin slits. As I tried to wrap my head around this new revelation, a commotion in the yard caught my attention. A small group of wolves came running into the space in front of the house, barking and growling at everyone to get out of their way. Galterio shot to his feet and walked to the edge of the pergola,
“Stay” he growled back at me before walking over to the group of wolves. Stay. Like I am a dog at his command. I don’t think so. I stood up and watched him as he approached them. I noticed one of the wolves, a large tan coloured wolf, was carrying another smaller brown wolf in its mouth. The tan wolf dropped the small wolf on the ground at Galterio’s feet. The little wolf jumped to its feet and snapped its jaws at the tan wolf. Something about the dirty brown wolf rang familiar in my mind, but I’m not sure why. Galterio grabbed the brown wolf by the neck, one hand holding the front and one holding the back. He lifted the wolf to his eye level, displaying an incredible amount of strength. The wolf was bigger than Galterio in his human form, but still small for a Were. The fact that he could lift it with ease, was a show of power if nothing else. Galterio had his canines fully extended and on show. He pulled the wolf close to his face and growled at it,
“Shift” he commanded of it. I have never seen an Alpha demand a Were to change form. I didn’t even know it was possible. The small brown wolf howled and shook in Galterio’s hold, but it looked like it was struggling to change. After another minute of the wolf shaking, its bones snapped out and then back in again, but it didn’t turn back. Watching it was horrendous. The little wolf was in an incredible amount of pain. It was gruesome.
“SHIFT!” Galterio roared. The wolf howled, throwing its head back at an impossible angle. And then, it changed. The human left dangling in Galterio’s hands was thin, gauntly and covered in dirt. I recognised who it was right away. The bitch that wanted me gone. Fucking Zoe.
